There is a reason why people go to bars in Allston but go home to sleep in Newton. It is forever a debate in these neighborhoods: do we want to turn it into Brooklyn or do we want to keep it Newton? Most people who live in Newton want to live there because it’s quiet and suburban compared to Boston and you can easily drive into the city. Maybe more restaurants open later but I don’t think they want 2am bars and BC hang outs (Boston College students) on every corner. Allston can keep its rats and late night traffic.
As someone who was born and raised south of Boston and worked in on Needham St in Newton for 7 years you have to have some serious $$$$$$$$$$ to call Newton your home. I would'nt take 90 (the Mass Pike ) if you want to go south to Cape Cod.
@@movemetoboston Two weeks ago. I have a buddy who works for one of the big real Estate Companies. According to him the avg house in Newton is close to 1.5 million. Newton is still a very expensive suburb of Boston.... every town/city in the Bay State has reasonably priced houses.Massacusetts is the most expensive state in New England.
@@MMB3245 OPINION: WOW has it changed since 2013. We have new mayor who in MY OPINION is off her rocker. She is changing the look of the old Newton, digging up the entire city, ruined the public areas around crystal lake, battles with teachers trying to fire them to save money for her little pet projects. For some reason she felt the need to put up blinking lights all over the place and an absolutely insane new parking meter set up. I used to love this city......I hate it now. (a resident since 1953)
In the last 10+ years the city has been turned into an urban mess.....not 12 cozy villages anymore. Pot holed roads, sky high taxes, no parking. I managed a retail store here for 35 years, Never met so many rotten spoiled kids and obnoxious parents. If I wasn't so old now I'd leave.

Interesting perspective. Do you live in Newton? Or Allston? Or either.

Used to be a great place to live 25 plus years ago. The 12 villages have been totally ruined. The city is getting urbanized.
Do you mind elaborating more? I lived there for 1 yr in 2013 and am shocked to read ur message
