yeah.....resistant to destroying what used to be a nice place

In the last 10+ years the city has been turned into an urban mess.....not 12 cozy villages anymore. Pot holed roads, sky high taxes, no parking. I managed a retail store here for 35 years, Never met so many rotten spoiled kids and obnoxious parents. If I wasn't so old now I'd leave.

As someone who was born and raised south of Boston and worked in on Needham St in Newton for 7 years you have to have some serious $$$$$$$$$$ to call Newton your home. I would'nt take 90 (the Mass Pike ) if you want to go south to Cape Cod.

As heavy as traffic is in Boston, l don't think the population has shrunk that much.

I was born in Worcester and grew up in western Massachusetts. If you work in the service industry, you probably can't afford to live in the state. I lived in the greater Boston area for 13 years, mostly in Cambridge and Somerville. When I lived there, there were a number of affordable housing options if you weren't super picky,and you could make it work. As time went on, though, wages weren't increasing to keep up with costs. The rent began to increase by up to 20% per year and at last glance they are still rising every year. The cost of living is not sustainable. It only will take a few years before most people realize that they made a mistake moving to Massachusetts. I moved to Maine a few years ago and one of the many benefits is cost stability. The rest are too numerous to list. You can't have a state exclusively populated with millionaires and billionaires. There won't be anyone to do the actual work.

Nice video. You should mention that Provincetown is where people don’t get judged. The Key West of Massachusetts with dynamite shopping, art and food. I’m from Salem and take the ferry to Provincetown for a fun day.

I used to live in a town called Dorchester, which is kind of part of the south Boston area. And I used to commute a lot to Boston for work. Now with that being said this coming from a person who is a natural Bostonian. It literally is a horrible place to live. The following reasons are the fentanyl epidemic to increase in homeless population or the high cost of living and traveling throughout with the transit system. if you’re not coming from a financially well establish background and you’re not going to an Ivy League school don’t waste your time. If you’re coming to Boston for a sporting event, see a family member that’s fine. Personally though , I moved out there back the end of 2023. And I have no reason to go back there besides seeing a friend or going to event.

MA has a very high cost of living fueled by housing, taxes, and more taxes disguised as “fees.” The legislature has been looking everywhere but have not yet found a tax they didn’t like.

As someone who grew up here, hearing you say “Western Provisions” “Dumping Daughter’s” and “Land Sake’s” were funny to hear. But about those places if you really want to move here: frankly there are better and cheaper food options a mile and a half down the road in Waltham. Land‘s Sake has my heart forever tho. But you’re not moving here for the local food and coffee spots, I know that.

There is a reason why people go to bars in Allston but go home to sleep in Newton. It is forever a debate in these neighborhoods: do we want to turn it into Brooklyn or do we want to keep it Newton? Most people who live in Newton want to live there because it’s quiet and suburban compared to Boston and you can easily drive into the city. Maybe more restaurants open later but I don’t think they want 2am bars and BC hang outs (Boston College students) on every corner. Allston can keep its rats and late night traffic.

Personally, I love it. But, you should have mentioned the price. One can get a very nice home in Sudbury, Duxbury, Concord or Carlisle for close to the same price.

I am not sure I would have picked the Woo as the affordable MA city example. There are better options than that. The main thing to consider, besides affordability as a consideration for the place to live is the traffic. If at all possible you want to live near where you work. The commutes can be epically bad sometimes if you have a long way to travel

I lived in Boston (and grew up there) 25 years. Trust me between taxes, traffic and cost of living do not move to Massachusetts. Anywhere in or close to Boston is $3000+ a month to rent. A start home that is rundown is around $500,000+ and I'm talking 1500 sqft that needs work if you are lucky. Spend 1 hours going 10-14 miles to your home to and from. Stay out of mass.

Used to be a great place to live 25 plus years ago. The 12 villages have been totally ruined. The city is getting urbanized.

Unfortunately our politicians and some locals will never let a true skyscraper be built in Boston. There hasn’t been a building built taller than 60 Stories since 1974. The J.Hancock. Building. We have a few that are 60 but not the same height. Several in the past were proposed and almost passed but the politicians and some miserable locals stopped it because of shadows. Thats right .. shadows. In 2006 Tom Menino wanted to build a 1000ft skyscraper but nope. Knocked down to 60 stories and 698 ft. Millennium Place. And nothing since but 600 and 700 ft blue buildings. Kinda disappointing. The new S. Station tower being built was originally supposed to be 900 ft. But guess what. Now 700

From MA here, cost of living is super high. If you make $150k in MA you will jave the same life style as someone who makes $70k in Columbus Ohio. I certainly wouldnt move there unless you need to go to college here or have some cheaper housing option. I live in NH half the year and upstate NY the other half. Upstate NY homes are about 75% less for similar build and its very easy to build a new home where as in MA its extremely restricted and very very expensive and slow to build anything. My sister in Carlisle is going on 9 years trying to build a single family home on a 14 acre wooded lot. Their lake house took 3x longer to build then was planned and cost 2x more than it was supposed to. Boston area has worlds best education and one of the best job markets and if you can get a job there i would do it and live in NH and come to the office a day or 2 a week.

I'm originally from MA. I moved to FL in 2013. Now, that I would love to go home, I CAN'T! Houses are over $500lk! Apartment rents are over $2-3k! Condos are over $300k! It's OUTRAGEOUS!!!!! WTF?!
