Yes, Ithaca isn't wealthy, but it has pricey real estate because of its lively downtown and surrounding beautiful nature. Educators, professors, and intellectuals aren't known for their wealth!
It has pockets of wealth but is surrounded by crippling poverty. 50% of the residents are below the poverty line, literally 50%, talk about wealth inequality.
Because of Cornell's prestige, a lot of the professors publish and do consulting for businesses. That is where there money comes from. It is true though that it is only a segment of the professors-likely the older ones before the blight of DEI hit the school.

Honestly, there is just too much to list, but I can say from personal experience, having lived here my entire life, it is a wonderful community and I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. In a word I would say it is down right special.
Yes, I thought it was a very cute town, stopped for the museum one day last year.
I lived in Saratoga Springs and it was truly beautiful.
Same here for 15 years until the marriage hit the fan then moved to the Great Sacandaga Lake where the NYC people summer like Saratoga.
Bronxville, Scarsdale and Pelham have some of the most beautiful homes i have ever seen.
Those areas aren't considered upstate.
@@krazyfan2000 Correct
And some of the most expensive. Easy commute to NYC.
I grew up in NJ. Our neighborhood of 25 homes were built on the old Gimbel estate. Big stone mansion on a hill Far View. Once I saw Bronxville that’s my first thought, it was a neighborhood of Far Views!
Grew up in the Adirondacks "Currently back there now" but In my youth my parents passed and I put into state custody were I moved 31 times between the ages of 12-17. I lived in every city mentioned other then Tuxedo Park. I cant remember exactly which school system I was in but a couple of them had legitimate restaurants in the cafeterias for middle and high schools students. Which at the time less then 1% of schools in the country had such amenities. I felt wildly out of place coming from living in the mountains my whole life to living in such posh areas.
I think you missed Grandview, Nyack, Hudson, Cold Spring
Breathtaking...such Beauty....
True
You forgot all about the Rhinebeck Air show that's one of the biggest things to do on the weekend up there
You should have looked into Alexandria Bay, NY in the 1000 Islands its definitely richer than some of the towns you listed.
Don't overlook Norwich on State Route 12, north of Binghamton and south of Syracuse. It has a charming downtown and a wonderful new Historic district including the Railroad Museum, the Chenango County Historical Museum and the real gem, the Northeast Classic Car Museum which has just completed a multi-million dollar update with a facade that looks like a 1960's era new car dealership...really wonderful.
Don't know when the last time you were there but Norwich is currently being over run with homeless people and meth heads walking the streets all day - horrible to see - I live here so I know and see it so sad. That being said they did do a wonderful job on the Car Museum.
Yes, two of the pictures of Rhinebeck are in Kingston.
Canandaigua is one of the up and coming Finger Lakes towns . Also Hammondsport was named one of the best small towns in upstate New York recently.
I always said I lived in upstate NY. People thought that meant Hudson River valley and the ritzy NYC suburbs. It’s actually CNY . Very close to Skaneatleles. Not far from Lake Ontario, St Lawrence river and Adirondack mountains. Beautiful area. It’s only an hour give or take to reach these areas.
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Drive down Albany St.@@johnathin0061892
Because of Cornell's prestige, a lot of the professors publish and do consulting for businesses. That is where there money comes from. It is true though that it is only a segment of the professors-likely the older ones before the blight of DEI hit the school.
Wow! Very nice indeed, I have never heard of this area. I'm so ignorant on what's schmancy.
Lol, thankfully there’s Schmancy to teach you of such places.
You forgot the lovely village of Owego situated on the Susquehanna and Lockheed Martin. Owego was recently voted “coolest small town” in the US.
Has unemployment improved?
Isn't it Oswego ? Just north of Fulton?
Good list, but would add Woodstock and Phonecia.
Sadly, I think Cazenovia may be in for a rough time, since the college will be closing after this academic year.
Oh no!
I believe they are going to make it into a Police Academy now, so at least it will be used.
Cazenovia is only a two year junior college. I was accepted into the 1985 nursing program, but I declined as I chose to go to Syracuse University for a Bachelors in Nursing. It was a girls only school back then.
@@colleenpeck6347 you know Cazenovia college ended up turning into a 4-year college? Right around 1986 they went from all girls to co-Ed with a 4 year degree option.
I live in Cazenovia, an exceptionallly beautiful place! Like a small Skaneateles, even a clean beautiful lake.
Well dang, I thought Lake George would’ve been in there, being the lovely tourist trap it is.
Beautiful. ❤
Thank you! Cheers!
That's not upstate, I'm talking ADK upstate. None of these are Upstate. Lake Placid, Saranac Lake are Upstate.
I hope they can share their wealth!
Rhinebeck is "Hamptons on the Hudson"!!!
well done
you posted photos of kingston ny during rhinebecks chapter lol
Westchester County is downstate. It’s not part of upstate. You don’t leave downstate until at least Poughkeepsie
Yep, somewhere between Newburg-Beacon Bridge and Mid-Hudson Bridge.
It depends were u from
I'm from Scarsdale in Westchester, and NO we in Westchester are NOT Upstate
Anything NORTH of Putman County is
UPSTATE
@jaybruno3571 Anybody that lives in NYC will call Scarsdale Upstate. We even call Yonkers Upstate and it runs right into the Bronx.
@@ogkillakakabumpy7905 nope I was born In the Bronx and lived in the Bx for 28 years WE always knew that Westchester is not upstate at all 🤣🤣😂😂😂😅😂🤣
#9 Cazenovia is out of date - Cazenovia College campus is closed an officially up for sale
You missed the greatest one of all Lake placid
On behalf of Lake Placid, thank you for missing us.
Spent many a childhood summer vacation in Lake Placid. Beautiful place.
Luv your channel. I went to Cornell..
Thank you.
We know Ithaca well. Two kids went to college there. Cornell is one of the most beautiful campuses in the country
When? “63 for me.
Skaneateles is a wonderful place especially on the Lake for 4-6 months a year (water is cold and beautiful blue like the Mediterranean) -the remaining months November -April-not so much cause the weather is harsh &…snow is plentiful & bring your wallet. Rel estate is wickedly overpriced and taxes are obscene- so if your budget is unlimited thats the place to be
Just wondering, is Cobleskill upstate NY???
No, but it's in upstate NY.
Oneida, Ny is number one. Saved you a watch.
Me and my friends use to camp out in the woods and trout fish in the stream.nice times nice people too for a Bronx kid it was paradise
I lived in Oneida until my mother passed away. I moved to northern New York after that. I was 10 at the time.
I used to live in Rhinebeck and loved it. It is a beautiful town with lot of history. Unfortunately, it has become the "New Hamptons' with the crowds from NYC, minimal parking, and rising housing costs. For me, it was losing that small town charm. (BTW - some of the photos shown for Rhinebeck in the video are from Kingston, NY.)
@9:00 cazenovia college just announced that it was closing permanently. The school went bankrupt
That’s sad news to hear.
What happen was that the College took on a large debt for renovation of the college - -- just before the virus from China hit - and - well.....
Cazenovia College closed forever at the end of spring semester last year.
Two of the shots depicting Rhinebeck were actually of Kingston; across the river.
Love Pittsford ❤ NY
Westchester isn't really considered upstate NY. southern Westchester mostly has commuter towns with professionals working in NYC weekdays.
Cooperstown has great breweries… Great breweries. Saratoga is just, meh. I grew up in the area between these to cities. The only problem with Nisky is that it borders on Schenectady. Very sad city.
Lived in Nisky in the early 70s through middle school and part of high school (dad was GE of course). Rode through Schenectady couple of years ago and it seems to be recovering a bit from the GE shutdown.
@@scoutandscooter GE is still there. It didn't shut down.
@@Donnabbb That is literally correct. GE never left Schenectady completely--it just decentralized to the point of a cannibalized remnant.
No so much as they are hiring now. I'm a GE retiree and union member.@@karenryder6317
Cooperstown is no big deal is not a rich town . People are lay back.
I grew up in Fairport. I vote for Cato Meridian or Weedsport.
Forgot the Addorrondacks, opps.
How about the 10 poorest cities in Upstate NY and why????
If you like cold winters with lots of snow, you should live in upstate New York. I prefer Florida in the winter, and NC or Virginia for all around. By the way, I worked all around NY state, and upstate could be nice in June and July, even you cannot swim in cold Fingerlakes' waters.
Thanks for the tips!
@@schmancy2978 google "golden snowball award"
How about Sleepy Hollow?
Nope, Scarsdale is WAY wealthier
Ithaca. That was the city with that creepypasta under the bridge
pittsford 18 years than us army; so many wonderfull towns. Mt. Morris {best lil town by a dam site}
How did Scarsdale make this list when it's located in Westchester County, which is downstate???
Houses in Saratoga Springs can go for a hell of a lot more than $1.5 Million. Complete teardowns on ¼ acres lots have sold for that.
There’s a great Diet Doctor there
One must visit Rhy.
i live in saratoga!! is the the BEST!!!
I live NEAR Pittsford!
Grew up in NY State. That’s a normal problem. All towns reported in the “southern tier”, bottom of the boot. Northern tier and Adirondack Mountains not even thought of as part of the state. City normal reaction.
