Lol the first thing I thought when I saw this "jewelry" was, "How would someone wear that?" And sure enough the first question that was asked after being allowed to look at it was, "How would one wear this?"
And that's why you find an asian jeweller who will give you stuff at less than 100% markup. I recently went to an asian jeweller store to buy a 18k solid gold mens ring that i really liked. The gold content in the ring was worth $700 and I was able to get the ring for $1050. And that's without bargaining too much, I could have gotten the ring for $1000 or maybe even 900 if i was a bit more pushy. It looks as good as any "branded" ring without the crazy 10x markup. I would rather have the pleasure of wearing a real precious ring with actual gold content/resale value than a lame gold plated ring from a high street fashion brand at 10x markup.
Im not a fashion people, these are just my observation. Alot of fashion and style is ugly. But what really important to these people are individuality rather than stylishness
I am sure this kind of jewelry is great for fashion shoots or magazine covers but that is it. Smaller versions for necklaces, yes, but for very extravagent ladies. I love beautiful jewelry for ladies (and men depending on what it is) but I love small luxurious jewelry. Don't find this jewelry very beautiful but of course I wish all the best for the designer. it sounds like she knows exactly what she is talking about, but yeah it would be dumb money for alot of investors. Everything I heard was an education. She is most likely a multi millionaire now however
I do kinda understand her equity ask but considering everything she's done and achieved and her clear love of her products I'm surprised she asked for 20%
700% is normal for jewelry (which is why when you see a 60% off sale is still making a high markup for the jeweler). Her customer base is going to be quite small... wealthy, but small.
Simon Woodruff is by far the worst Dragon He is only showing off and never seems to be really knowing what he is doing. He never invests in a business or idea because he thinks its investable but because it suits his EGO. He is extremely insensere with the Entrepreneurs and gives them some false sense of hope. Which I find really repulsive. I can relate to Rachel, who told him to "put his money where his mouth is". And she is right. He is all talk but no action. For Simon, it is never about the idea but always about any "Chemistry" between him and the Entrepreneur. So he can boss him or her around and be his "Mentor", whatever creepy thing this means.

Markup is pointless in niche fashion. £30k from 5 items with an excessive markup seems awesome... but you won't get the volume, and at the end of the day, it is just £30k of sales... and she will want to take a salary. So she might have a few of these happening a year bringing in a couple hundred grand but she is going to take a big chunk out of it being in those circles and burn money on marketing and PR to shift relatively few items (a lot of celeb endorsements to be considered highly - giving away items or paying them). The amount of networking that needs to be undertaken to get people to buy such products is an excessive draw on time. The £110k investment (if it went through) comes at a heavy cost of her name and likeness being used; although she can buy out, as a fashion designer if your name is trash it is pretty much game over. She can get that money in 6 months without needing to give away equity.

I would rather have the pleasure of wearing a real precious ring with actual gold content/resale value than a lame gold plated ring from a high street fashion brand at 10x markup.
9:58 "And I like a bit of fashion as well", says the man with the awkward sideburns and leopard lining.
Im not a fashion people, these are just my observation. Alot of fashion and style is ugly. But what really important to these people are individuality rather than stylishness
Elizabeth: My mark up would be 1482%
Title: She claims a 1482% margin.
That's a huge difference
I am sure this kind of jewelry is great for fashion shoots or magazine covers but that is it. Smaller versions for necklaces, yes, but for very extravagent ladies. I love beautiful jewelry for ladies (and men depending on what it is) but I love small luxurious jewelry. Don't find this jewelry very beautiful but of course I wish all the best for the designer. She was very well spoken and elegant and very quirky.
100K for barbwire and guillotine accessories may be the best investment ever. Geez
it sounds like she knows exactly what she is talking about, but yeah it would be dumb money for alot of investors. Everything I heard was an education. She is most likely a multi millionaire now however
Peter was really nice telling her he's out. Valid points too. It isn't exactly his style.
Elizabeth had to state her age right at the beginning for Senor Richard
I do kinda understand her equity ask but considering everything she's done and achieved and her clear love of her products I'm surprised she asked for 20%
So, she has to give them the rights to her name, AND an extra 10%
Yup, although I'm not feeling too sorry for her given her 1000% margin on products produced as cheaply as possible by underpaid workers in China.
@@scottkerpen4755 good point, although I'll point out the Dragons don't see to care about that either.
Elizabeth Galton. You are absolutely delightful!
Lmao, Peter Jones says: not the kind of guy to look at lady's on a cat walk... 😂😂
Sooo.. Hmm.. Duncan?

Peter: “Have you got sales? Figures for first year ?”
👩🏻: "yas yas yas ..."
Lmfo
Kept thinking Stargate
Rachel: I don't have any money
700% is normal for jewelry (which is why when you see a 60% off sale is still making a high markup for the jeweler). Her customer base is going to be quite small... wealthy, but small.
If you want to understand just how sadly times have changed, the conversation between the Dragons at the end would have no chance of being aired now.
Very smart from both of them I can't stop watching these shows lol
Seems like a lovely woman. The comments before declaring they're out are always nice.
Simon Becker you do realise that this Episode is over 10 years old? Just referring to your “is” connotations.
Well said. This is why I like Duncan. He is a no nonsense , direct kind of guy . He is authentic and you can tell very quick if he likes the Idea or the Entrepeneur . He just is a very laid back likable kind of guy . If you compare Duncan and Simon, they really are so different in all aspects
Well he invested in the mushrooms.
@@ad_2211 yes I do. However I use the present terminology just to make it easier to relate to my comment. By the way I think you realised that my mother tongue is not English so it is harder to get my point across than e.g. for you
@@Tremarex You mean the Truffles in France, he only invested in the land for 75k few years time the land would be worth more regardless the magic mushrooms, i meant Truffles.
haha gotta love duncan's laugh :D
love the way she added her age to the pitch, like it meant something
I guess she added it because she looks twice her age.
She looks a lot older than 28.
Ageism is rampant and she evidently realises it. By saying that she's 28, she's revealing that she's mature enough to be competent, but still young enough to be a creative visionary, at least according to generalisations.
say what you want about the jewellery... she is a clever business woman & prepared to come into the den, unlike so many that pitch their business.
If we all looked into the mark up of things we buy we would faint at the rip off
I hung these as decorations on my Christmas tree...
...the tree died.
3:33, Peter 's brain has completely shut down
Ah yes, the early days of DD when Peter had 30% less hair
The "during the series" Bankrupt Rachel Eleanor put an offer in... 😂😂 Priceless!
Duchess of Cambridge, wears her stuff i.e. Empress Earrings for Mappin & Webb, designed by Elizabeth Galton...She knows her stuff, better than the Dra-Goons.
Dragon: *Talks to her*
Her: Yeah,ahah,yea,yes,aha
Probably she was very nervous or thought it is "active listening" but it is quite annoying behaviour.
