I couldn’t agree more on the grader our 65r had one and I never got on with it especially when moving pea shingle, with the working envelope the C model will be a lot better than the Z as the Z uses a shorter dipper plus the slew ring is mounted further forward moving the bucket away from the blade, your looking the wrong side of 70k for one now which is nuts.
Too me it looks like a very good machine for a self drive hire fleet but for the owner operators who are in them all day every day, it could do with a few tweeks
Just simple stuff that makes the world of difference to an owner operator. Nothing I couldn't modify myself but you would hope you wouldn't need to on a new machine!
I haven't driven the new Case mini/ midi machines yet as they have just done a tie up with Eurocomach - an Italian company who have been making some tasty looking machines for a while now - very well spec'd. I did get the chance to look round a few at Hillhead and was a bit disappointed by a few of the details - particularly in design details and the build quality in the cab. But boy do they look tasty with some of the options ticked. I certainly wouldn't rule one out and I didn't see the 8tonner so that could well be a totally different machine to the 6 I looked at. Think you can see my thoughts on them in the Hillhead video I posted a few months back which might be of interest?
I would go for a komatsu pc80 / pc88 but that is only cause I am a fan boy 😂 That looks a really small grading bucket - is that a standard size jcb one?
This grader is pathetic! An old design, made for cleaning ditches and doesn't suit a modern 8t machine at all. This machine could handle something twice as deep if not more. And regarding Komatsu, I'd love to see more of their machines about. Drove a PC30 back in 2010 for a bit and it was lovely to drive, although had some quirky features. But there's no dealer down here that I know of and as such are poorly represented down in the south of the UK.
Ollie what’s your thoughts on fixed boom machines of this size fitted with a rotortilt? Much better lifting power, balance and load height! How often do you swing the boom with your Engcon fitted?
They make great tiltrotator machine's. As you say, the need to swing the boom with the tilty on is much reduced from running a fixed bucket. I mostly offset my boom to clean up to the blade these days. Not often I have to swing it round for a trench etc as I can do it with the bucket instead. On a larger machine this would be even less frequent as they often work in larger spaces and you have more power to dig at an angle with the tilty
I rarely swing the boom round on mine, maybe have it a few degrees to the right to aid visibility, but often say if the kingpost was welded up I could live with it! But nice to have the option.
I never got a price on one but back in 2016 they were just short of £50k with buckets. I know things have got more expensive recently but they cant be as much as £120k! Not for an 8 tonner!
I run the CAT 308 and love it. Watching your channel, I've noticed we talk a little different, but we do similar work! 😁

Comprehensive... JCB come into their own at this size, nice review.
For dozing try the 86c-2 with float option work's like a dream
We've just bought a new 86C-2... that wiper drives me crazy.

Light wants to be on the other side - lazy fitter when they were making the machine up... we've got the same issue. Nice controls and feel.
They must have designed it there - every one I've seen has it in the same place....
I LOVE MY YANMAR 80
Great videos Ollie. Im in the market for a 8 ton machine. There’s a case dealer near me, have you any thoughts on the case cx80c ?

Cat 308 is 140k USD in the US.
No way! Any idea how much one is in the UK?

@@Olliegunns is there a particular brand that you think is the best when it comes to an 8 tonne? Cat, JCB, hitachi?
Try case I find them good
does the jcb machines have blade float option i know others like cat do
It is an option yes, as is the 3 way blade but this machine didn’t have it specced
Blade float is an option, if you don’t want a check valve on the blade. Can’t have both as far as I know.
