Christian is a top 25 guy for me all time. Hes dope as hell. I was always bummed out that he retired and had almost no fanfair when he left. Him coming to AEW was one of their greatest signings because unlike Andrade or Miro who clearly saw it as a demotion, he was all game for whatever was gonna happen. He hasn't missed since his return and I wish AEW used him more between the TNA run and when he turned on Jungle Boy. He wasnt used for like a year there and I was always curious about that.

I think one reason why some people think his debut was "overhyped" is that his TNA debut was similiar. It felt genuinely big at the time when Christian crossed over and then it got slightly overshadowed when Kurt Angle did the same thing not long later.
As he they said, no lies were told and in rather similiar fashion, CM Punk, Bryan Danielson & Adam Cole's debuts in AEW not long after sort of overshadowed his own.

AEW and TNA's Christian have been better than WWE's Christian. Vince always hated Christian and always found a way to downplay or cast him aside or even make a joke out of him. TNA was the first to let people know that Christian could be a main event player and multi-time world champion. He's one of the innovators of the TLC and hardcore scene and is the best heel in the business.

I think the biggest issue with how they hyped Christians arrival was that there were other big names out there that fitted with what was said and that got speculation to go crazy and start looking in the wrong direction, this led to a mixed reaction to his arrival, had they gone with a surprise or just announced him it would have arguably been a much better received debut, but either way was still a great addition to the aew roster and his work since has been top notch, must be very satisfying for a guy who thought his career was over to not just be performing, but doing so at such a high level again
