You two were glowing with that gorgeous arrangement of flowers behind you! Anne is such a universal book. Tonight as I walked with my elderly neighbor she told me she read it in Poland during some very dark days. It was a favorite of her childhood. I love how this little girl can unite us though space and time from the pen if a gifted writer.
Your hair looks va voom! Your mum’s style is perfect! You and your mum are a delightful pair. The original Anne of Green Gables show I watch as a kid was the coziest. I looked up to Anne!
You both look so beautiful today! I’ve been looking forward to this month’s read and discussion. Anne of GG is my absolute favorite book of all time. And at age 61, I’ve read it so many times. I love the series so much. I’m so fortunate and so excited to be planning a trip to PEI in late May this year. It’s an anniversary present from my husband. We will be driving from Tennessee to PEI for everything Anne and also plan to visit Nova Scotia. On our way home we are stopping in Concord, MA to visit Orchard House where Louisa May Alcott wrote Little Women, another favorite of mine. Im so thankful for your channel Miranda. I feel like I’m sitting in the room with you and Donna. You are both such “kindred spirits” and I always look forward to your videos!
Dear Miranda and Donna, thank you very much for this lovely and lively discussion. I love the new format very much. I agree a lot with your comments on Marilla. When I was young I didn't like her too much, but this time I could understand her much better. There is a book by Sarah McCoy it's called "Marilla of Green Gables" and is set before Anne of GG starts. Do you know it? I wish both of you a very happy week, you look very beautiful!❤❤
Thanks! I really enjoyed the Anne of Green Gables discussion. Miranda, you and Donna do such an excellent job every time leading The Comfort Book Club! Netflix has 3 seasons of Anne with an E, and it is wonderful! I highly recommend it. I also enjoyed visiting Prince Edward Island 2 years ago. I am definitely a fan of L.M. Montgomery!
Such a cozy, thoughtful discussion of this classic! I enjoyed your analysis of how physical space-particularly, Anne’s bedroom-reflects the gradual thawing and growing intimacy in the Cuthbert home, and even hints of Anne’s romance to come. And Eriko’s comment especially spoke to me, as I recently read this book to my 9-year-old daughter, who took it rather hard when Anne started growing up and became less prone to imaginative escapades. I told her something similar to what Eriko, Donna, and Miranda say in this discussion: we’re never too old for a sense of wonder and imagination, that although we become more wise about the world, we never have to outgrow our childlike sense of awe and adventure.
Thank you Miranda and Donna, I have enjoyed your discussion on Anne of Green Gables which is very interesting. I hadn't realized that the author had had such a sad childhood, she was cared for so well and her grandmother helped her to become a writer by educating her well, yet her childhood seemed so lacking in love. Those were indeed hard times for children to lose their parents and to be brought up by their relations. I remember the book Pollyanna about an orphan girl who had very optimistic views about everything! What I love about Anne of Green Gables is just how beautifully it is written, it really does just transport me to Avonlea in the Spring and I too am full of the wonder of this wonderful place!
I sure enjoy these discussions. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these great books. I do want to say how lovely your hair looks, Miranda. I also want to say a special hello to your Mother. I lost my Mother 20 years ago to cancer. She was a school librarian and loved reading. Bless you both.
I’ve lived all my life in Canada yet until now, I never read “Anne of Green Gables.” (Grounds for having my Canadian citizenship revoked.😆) Believe it or not, I drove all over the province of Prince Edward Island yet I never visited the “Green Gables House.” Thanks to The Comfort Book Club, I’ve now read and enjoyed the book, and I understand what all the fuss is about. Thank you!
As always, a wonderful discussion Miranda and Donna! Anne is every bit a charming as she was the first time I read her and I really enjoyed how you've switched things up this time. Looking forward to the next comfort read!
Hello Miranda and Donna. This was another wonderful discussion. I had read this book as a young girl and, of course, loved Anne and her way of looking at her world. However, reading this again as an adult was so much more rewarding. The women were so influential and the relationships played such a huge part of this book. Being older I now recognize how important female friendships can be so much deeper and necessary. L.M. Montgomery has taught her readers so many life lessons. Thank you for choosing this amazing read. 🌸
Thank you Miranda, Donna and everyone for a great discussion! Fun fact: I read from my childhood edition ( that is falling apart) and noticed that my enjoyment was increased incredibly by that. It was a comforting and nostalgic experience. From now on, when we read a " childhood classic", I'll read from my own childhood stash if I have the book instead of opting to buy a new, more beautiful edition.
Thank you so much for your very kind support, Faith! I really appreciate it! So glad you enjoyed the experience of reading your childhood copy of the book ❤️
Hi Miranda, I love the new set up for Comfort Book Club and look forward to the new Thursday uploads. Anne of Green Gables was one of the many books my Grandmother gave to me, I think she identified with Anne as she was quite similar 😊. Lovely discussion and comments from Comfort Book Club members, as usual a Joy to listen to. Thanks again ❤
Hello Miranda and Donna, Thank you for this lovely video. Anne of Green Gables has been a favourite of mine for many many years. I love her imaginative outlook on life. Although I live on the very opposite coast of Canada, I've visited the National Park Site of Green Gables twice, once just last summer. Besides the house of Montgomery's relatives that inspired Green Gables, I was able to visit the homesite where L.M. Montgomery's grandparents raised her and the church she attended and where her funeral was held. My husband and I wandered through Lover's Lane and the Haunted Wood and I chattered away in Anne's style explaining everything to him. I also love Montgomery's book The Blue Castle. Have you read it?
I loved this discussion! I was especially interested in learning more about the life of L. M. Montgomery, and your exploration of the importance of female education. Thank you both!
What a special and interesting discussion about Anne of Green Gables. It has long been a favourite of mine, along with the rest of the series. My two favourites, after Anne of GG, are Rainbow Valley and Rilla of Ingleside. Hearing about L. M. Montgomery' childhood was fascinating, clearly much of Anne was inspired by her own story, and I did immediately think that Matthew had to be the grandfather that L. M. Montgomery would have longed for, rather than the stern and formidable one that she actually had. On this reread I found myself appreciating Marilla much more, and the way her character softens as she grows to love Anne. I smiled often at Anne's wildly dramatic reactions, and Marilla's much more prosaic responses. Thanks for choosing 'Anne' for us to read for the CBC.
Anne of Green Gables has been an absolute favourite since my girlhood. I love LMM's nature descriptions, and I think it was her dreamy Anne who helped me to develop my own imagination and learn how to pay attention to the world around me. I so enjoyed the discussion. Miranda and Donna, you both looked especially lovely today - it all felt very spring-like and joyful. Thanks so much! @BrenfromHome
What a perfect choice. I've read this book so many times I feel as if it must be part of my DNA by now. It's so timeless. I loved the way you said it helped make you what you are... I've read all the other Anne books and most of L.M. Montgomery's other books and short stories, but this is the one that started it all for me.
That was fun, thank you. I was a polite, well behaved little girl, I just used to talk a lot, I didn't realize how much till my parents digitized some of the films they took of us when we were little. My tiny little mouth never stopped. LOL . I learned to swim very young and I used to spend a lot of time underwater pretending I was mermaid. That kind of stuff, very innocent. I think Anne is a lot like that, she was an innocent child who just wanted to be loved. I have gone on to the next book and I am finding it very interesting that she and her friends were all teaching so very young. Another new book for me, thanks. I have another LM Montgomery book to read, (that I have never read before,) The Blue Castle. I am going to read it after I finish the Anne books.
Hi Miranda and Donna! I really enjoyed this chat! I was looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Last year I read "Anne of Green Gables' to my young son and he loved it...up until he began to suspect that a major character dies and then emphatically made me stop...he just didn't want to know who it was or anything further. I had not expected him to be so moved and so personally engaged with the characters to create that reaction. It shows what a good writer L.M. Montgomery is to be able to engage readers of so many different ages. "Anne" taught me to find joy in the small and everyday beauties all around us and helped me to understand other people better. I agree that Marilla's transformation is one of the most endearing parts of the book. Thank you for another wonderful book conversation! 🥰
I'm a bit late listening to this CBC discussion but it does mean I get to watch your next RUclips video tomorrow 😊 I read Anne first as a child and reread the first two books last year. I was so interested to hear more about the authors life and wondered if you could recommend a biography please? 😘
Wonderful discussion, love the new format, just need to get some of us other members for comments., so, we have a mix, we will have to learn the technique, - all the books you suggest on comfort and Seasons are wonderful. - been fun getting Puffins in Bloom and so many others, had to stop myself - my mail lady asked what are all these things from London (coming to SC, USA)💕. You are both wonderful and enjoyable = plus so informative., there is now a British goods store in Massachusetts and I am up to 4 “Emma Bridgewater” mugs. I will be going back to work soon!!!☺️. Watching you two brings back wonderful memories of my Mom.
Your comment about the poetry being in school readers was interesting. I hadn't made that connection, though I am Canadian and happen to have in my possession an old Canadian school reader that my grandmother, who had been a teacher in a one-room school house on the Canadian prairies, had given me, which contains both 'The Lady of Shalott' and 'The Highwayman'. Thank you for this insight, which has further enriched my appreciation for this Canadian classic and personal favourite.
I have been reading the series since last year. It has my heart with the childish innocence and vivid imagery. Just received a copy of anne's house of dreams and am excited to start soon
A lovely book that is my daughter’s go to comfort book since she first read it when she was 11. I read it as a child but I liked it but for me it was all about The Five by Blyton. Now as an older woman I enjoy it more and as a child. That means it is never too late to read children’s books.
Anne is one of my favourite character. I've read this book for the first time when I was twelve. Since then I read it many times, whole series. I love how universal is this book, it's great read for teenenagers and adults. Every time I discover something new.
Thank you both so much for the wonderful discussion. It was joyful! Donna, my favourite book close on the heels of Anne of Green Gables, is Rilla of Ingleside also.
I grew up in Canada and now live in US. Anne of Green Gables keeps me connected to my roots and I pick it up whenever I am longing for Canada. Have loved it through all my decades!
Thank you so very much for this wonderful discussion about a favorite book of mine. I didn’t read it as a child, and never knew about it until Acorn made the film starring Megan Fellows. I enjoyed that so much that I just had to read the book. After that I went on to read all LM Montgomery’s books. I especially loved The Blue Castle. It was such a pleasure to read Anne of Green Gables once again and take a journey through the beautiful world of Prince Edward Island and Anne’s often hilarious life.
I reread this in April not knowing it was the bookclub choice! It has been one of my favourite books for thirty years. I agree that Marilla becomes more interesting the older you get. I remember not liking her at all on my first read (aged about 12), but really love her character now. Great discussion. I really enjoyed learning more about L M Montgomery too. Thank you.
I only found your book club today and I'm so glad I did. So I'm watching you both at the moment and loving your chat. Its lovely the way you and your Mum bounce off of each other. It reminds me of my Mum and I. Unfortunately my Mum is in a carehome now and isnt able to read anymore so thank you to you both. xx
My husband and I went to Nova Scotia and PEI about 10 years ago. How beautiful and healing! We could only go for a long weekend but I loved every minute! Someday I would like to go back and stay on the island. Thank you for reminding and prompting me to read these books again. I’m reading the whole series!
Thank you so much for the choice of this book. I had never read it. I asked my grand daughter - she is 12 - could I borrow her book. Which she did. I absolutely loved this book and can’t really believe I never read it. Loved the discussion between the two of you this morning and then hearing the readers. This book has made my heart very warm and comforted remembering my childhood. My parents were quite old when I was born - I felt like an only child as my siblings were much older than me. I had quite an imagination as well although not as vivid as Anne (with an E).
Thank you very much for this video. I adore this book. When I was a little girl in Italy on tv there were the cartoons about Ann and my mother and I followed together the shows. I became a girl with Ann: I studied, I met friends...as an adult then I started to read the books and it was a pleasure to discover the style of this great writer!Thank you Miranda and Donna and kisses from Italy.
Thank you so much for choosing Anne of Green Gables as the Comfort Book Club. It gave me an excuse as if I needed one, to get out my copy along with copies of the other Anne books. Like Donna, I found myself drawn to Marilla in ways I couldn't do on the first reading as a young teenager. I fell in love with the wonder of Anne and PEI all over again.
Hi Miranda & Donna, I enjoyed your discussion about our dearest Anne this month. She is such a delightful character. LM Montgomery is pure genius in her story telling! I’m currently reading Anne of Windy Willows in Which she describes a whole bunch of characters in such a humorous way. Love it! I too started the Anne saga late in life and I’m so thrilled I have... Thank you for sharing this wonderful author with us all. Love from Australia.
Fabulous discussion as always. You two look so lovely! You may enjoy reading Marilla of Green Gables by Sarah McCoy-it tells the story of Marilla as a young her woman. I enjoyed it very much. The same author has written novels about Marmee from Little Women and also Caroline from Little House. Thank you so much for your beautiful videos❤
Absolutely loved your discussion of a beloved book of mine. I’ve read the Anne books countless times, they were such a joy and comfort to me as a child - I felt Anne and I truly were kindred spirits and she was a real friend. I find Anne’s optimism, positivity, warmth, love of nature and her interest in people so inspiring. The books are so beautifully written they are just as much of a pleasure to read as an adult, although as you were saying, I notice Marilla’s story so much more now, and find her love for Anne so touching, and I also feel so much more the sadness of Anne’s early life. I am inspired to follow your example, Miranda, and read my way right through the series again. Rilla of Ingleside is one of my very favourites in the series, and definitely requires a box of tissues as Donna says! Thank you both for a wonderful watch!
Thank you for this lovely discussion and analysis. I just finished watching the Megan Follows film adaptation of this book with my granddaughter who is 11. She doesn’t have the attention span to sit through the book yet, but she loved the movie. She loved Anne and I am grateful to pass along this classic to a new generation.
Hello Miranda & Donna, this was such a lovely discussion. As well as the descriptive beauty of the novel, it was Marilla who stood out for me this time and the changes her character undergoes as she slowly starts to love Anne. It is so interesting how our focus changes with time. You both look gorgeous today and I love your hair, Miranda. xx
Anne of Green Gables was a favorite of mine and my daughters! I wish I had found this channel earlier and been able to read along with everyone. It has inspired me though to go back and read them on my own! I enjoyed this discussion of it with you and your mum and some of the other members. :)
I work as a school librarian, and six months ago we had a very enjoyable visit from author Jennifer Killick. She said something in her talk that really stuck with me: if you ever come across an adult who's really boring, it's probably because they've forgotten how to use their imagination. This has really stuck with me, and I kept thanking of it throughout Anne of Green Gables, as Anne's imagination is so central to the book.
Loved your video with your mom. This is a favourite book of mine. I live in Nova Scotia and have visited PEI several times. It is always so enchanting to go to Green Gables. I recommend “We Keep a Light” by Evelyn M Richardson as a cozy read. She is also a Maritime author and won awards for this nonfiction book about lighthouse keeping from the 1930s to the 1960s.
I'm loving your hair a wee bit shorter Miranda, it suits you. Also your dear mum Donna's hair suits her shorter too 😊 I think you have found a gem of a hairdresser in Boroughbridge. Our daughter-in-law & her family live there, It's such a beautiful market town xx
Again, I love your hairstyle Miranda. Donna yours is so nice too, shows of your beautiful face. Donna, you have a happy and very sweet face! What a duo!!🤗 My family and I visited P.E.I. one summer, specifically because of The Anne Bks. Oh! I hope you get there sometime. Many yrs. ago before there was a bridge connected to the island. The dirt there is REALLY red! Even on the shores.L.M.Montgomery has to be the, or one of the most descriptive writers I know. Just wonderful. I think my favorite scene in the movie is when Anne and Matthew are driving to G.G. and go through "the White Way of Delight"! Breathtaking! People my whole life have told me I have quite the imagination. When my granddaughter was a toddler and older, I use to make up stories for her. They just came out as I went along. When she was 13/14 yrs. old, she said to me, " Nana, you have imagination like Anne Of Green Gables." No better compliment and I will always treasure that. Now she is 18 and we discuss books.🤗 Thank you both so much for this discussion, interesting and fun. Thank you for choosing Anne!
Love this book club, I just got this book and I can’t put it down so good😊😊love all your recommendations! You both are lovely 😊 thank you. Look forward to Thursdays
What a lovely discussion :) This book is really one of my absolute favorites! This May it is six years since I visited PEI and Green Gables, and the island stole a bit of my heart (I really hope I can visit it again sometime in the future). Thank you for choosing this book and for including my voice message in the video ♥
Another winner. Thank you, Miranda and Donna! I connected with so much of what you and other readers said. I have ancestral connections with this part of the world and with Anne’s and Maud’s orphan experience. Please make visiting PEI a priority. It is magical!❤
Thankyou so much Miranda and Donna for this month’s choice of Anne of Green Gables. I love everything Anne - the book, the Netflix film and the audiobook. And now my granddaughter, aged 12, is reading the book. Anne is still an inspirational figure for me. I also love The Blue Castle, another story of an emotionally starved child and young woman. Poor “Doss”, but it all comes good in the end. Thankyou for a wonderful discussion. PS Lovely hair Miranda!
Hello from Canada! Great discussion! I love LM Montgomery's descriptive writing's. I have read all the 5 volumes Rubio and Waterston have put together of her life. Fascinating reading!
(Melanie) Donna, your haircut is cute! You both look beautiful, as always. I like this format - with you both discussing the book beforehand. SO many good quotes in Anne of Green Gables. A wonderful book for close reading with a Commonplace book on hand.
Great discussion! I wish I had read it as a child, but I'm reading the series as a thirty something woman. I was worried that writing would be too simple and I wouldn't appreciate it, but actually, though its still a simple writing style, its so descriptive and immersive to read.
A bit late to this, but this discussion is not only lovely, but really smart and the two of you engage in some really astute analysis...Ive read Anne of Green Gables many times, but your POV is leading me to read it again
I love this format!! It’s a keeper 😊Thank you for sharing your knowledge, reading such inspiring literature and challenging us with titillating discussion. Thank you both lovely ladies❤
Thank you very much, and yes I agree it's wonderfully how universally loved Anne is xxx
Comfort Book Club - the best possible name for these two lovely ladies and for the books they discuss ❤ Greetings from Osijek in Croatia!
Your hair looks va voom! Your mum’s style is perfect! You and your mum are a delightful pair. The original Anne of Green Gables show I watch as a kid was the coziest. I looked up to Anne!
Miranda
The ballet Anne of Green Gable is coming to Toronto…
That would make you happy…😀
Wonderful literature... wonderful discussion. Thank you, Ladies ❤

A wonderful lively discussion! Thank you ladies 🤗 Your hair looks gorgeous Miranda xxx
Thank you ❤️

Thank you so much for your lovely support! It's so kind of you, and very much appreciated ❤️
Montgomery!

What a lovely discussion! You really got to the heart of the book and why it's so beloved.
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it ❤️
Hello Miranda and Donna. Wanted to say I so loved this new format. Learned so much more of the author and the era of this storyline. Thank you ❤

Thank you so much for your amazing support, Stacey! So lovely of you! I really appreciate it, and I'm so glad you enjoyed the discussion ❤️
i like this format much better, though i never thought there was anything wrong with the other.. but it felt more like a bookclub discussion somehow 🙂

Watched the series and visited Green Gables in Prince Edward Island..
Totally amazing….
I’d love to see a video of your editions of Anne of Green Gables, similar to the one you did with The Secret Garden!
Tak!
Thank you so much for your very kind support! It's much appreciated ❤️
You both make my day, thank you!🇨🇦🥰

Thank you both to such a lovely discussion. Anne of Green Gables has been one of my favourites, too.
Lovely discussion! I recently read all the books in the Anne series and enjoyed them all, especially the first 3 and Rilla!
Love your bookclub discussions! Thanks Miranda and Donna 🌸🌷
Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed the discussion!
Such a lovely book. Enjoyed your video!!
So glad you enjoyed the book and the discussion! ❤️
Lovely video!
Hi Miranda & Donna,
I enjoyed your discussion about our dearest Anne this month.
Thank you Miranda my first time read & what a positive wonderful girl Anne is. So enjoyed her growth & all the surrounding characters 📖 🙏
Always enjoy these reviews! One of my favorite authors!❤❤
Thank you both so much for the thoughtful review and background on L.M Montgomery. :)
Loved this book growing up, then my two daughters loved it! Will always enjoy it.
Miranda and Donna, you both look so fresh and (extra) beautiful in this video ❤️ thank you as always, for such a lovely discussion ❤❤
Great video, as always. I learned a lot about the author, LM Montgomery, as well. I better get moving on next month's Comfort Book Club's pick!
Thanks so much as always for your lovely voice message, Myriam! xxx
Hello Miranda & Donna, this was such a lovely discussion. As well as the descriptive beauty of the novel, it was Marilla who stood out for me this time and the changes her character undergoes as she slowly starts to love Anne. It is so interesting how our focus changes with time. You both look gorgeous today and I love your hair, Miranda. xx
Thank you, Marie! And for your lovely voice message ❤️
Anne of Green Gables was a favorite of mine and my daughters! I wish I had found this channel earlier and been able to read along with everyone. It has inspired me though to go back and read them on my own! I enjoyed this discussion of it with you and your mum and some of the other members. :)
What a lovely comment! Thanks so much! Enjoy your reread ❤️🌹
Thank you so much for your lovely contribution! ❤️
I used to love Little Orphan Annie and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn as well.
Another winner. Thank you, Miranda and Donna! I connected with so much of what you and other readers said. I have ancestral connections with this part of the world and with Anne’s and Maud’s orphan experience. Please make visiting PEI a priority. It is magical!❤
What a wonderful discussion! And you both look absolutely gorgeous xx
I ♥️the wall of books behind you
Great discussion!
💖🌷📒 Loving this format that is a blend of the old Tea Reads that I missed and the beloved book club! Great discussion as ever on a timeless book. 💜📚☕
You girls look beautiful. I love this book.
I love this format!! It’s a keeper 😊Thank you for sharing your knowledge, reading such inspiring literature and challenging us with titillating discussion. Thank you both lovely ladies❤
LOVE THIS BOOK.
So excited for the discussion ❤
I can see Anne of Green Gables character in the film "Annie" the plucky red headed 10 year old orphan girl.
Please tell me if I have Mum Donna's saying correct: "She'd talk a high leg off a donkey" ... is that accurate?
I have never heard it before.
Hind* leg - and yes, a common expression here
@@MirandaMills Ah, thank you! That makes more sense. Go figure why I did not figure that out for myself. Thank you for a lovely post and discussion.
Hi Miranda, can l just ask, do you cover your books to protect them at all?
📚📖📚❤
Thanks!
Thank you so very much for your lovely support! I really appreciate it ❤️
Thanks!
