    Haha, The hats a keeper, suits you sir! really like this hammock set up, looked super cosy but I could see me rolling over every time I tried getting in it 🤣

      I’ve yet to wear the hat again since 😅. Do you know, I’ve only ever gone arse over tit in the hammock a couple of times, and it’s always when I think I’ve grabbed the actual hammock, when really I’m trying to climb into the underblanket dangling underneath. This is invariably after one too many Belgians. It is actually almost impossible to fall out of a camping hammock like this once you’re in, as they don’t have those daft spreader bars at each end, so beloved of ‘You’ve Been Framed’. Give it a go, you know you want to! Cheers and have a great Easter sir 👍

    the hat is a beauty! I have, and love, one which is very similar. might be a location thing: in the woods or on the trail it’s perfect; on the way to the shops or at the pub maybe not so much.

      @@CottonBud ooooo! yeah, i can see where that might have been a wee problem. well, don't feel too bad, my Mrs makes Indiana Jones jibes when i wear mine in the back garden. i've tried to explain that there's no better way too keep the Scottish drizzle at bay but the jibes keep coming. frankly i think it's a lost cause: we're gonna get needled for loving our outdoorsy stuff as we do and that's just the way of it. smile and make the best of it i reckon.

    Now that's funny Richard you had me talking about how good my crusader set was and then you did the run down. I've always thought it the perfect set up - I love mine and must be lucky I reckon. But a great night out overall. That hammock set up was cold proof. You were gonna snore all night. Well, beautifully put together. Good going - all the best. Mark

    • @CottonBud
      @CottonBud  2 года назад +1

      Yeah I don’t like to diss it Mark as it is a very clever system that works brilliantly when it’s functioning! I’ll still use it extensively. Thanks for the watch and I hope 22 brings you lots of nice outdoor moments sir 👍 Rich

    I truly enjoyed watching that, Rich, you brave soul! I doubt I'll take up 'wild' camping myself anytime soon and even the very idea of clambering into that hammock made me feel a tad queasy. Brilliant film and thank you for posting 😀

    • @CottonBud
      @CottonBud  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Dave! It’s not for everyone - in fact if it was and the woods were full of hammocks it would be rubbish wouldn’t it I suppose? Out of interest, when you say ‘’queasy” do you mean the thought of the swaying? If so, it doesn’t rock back and forth nearly as much as you may think. I’ve been a bit tipsy climbing in before now and worried about that but always been fine. Anyway, cheers again for the watch and comments - and thumbs up for the hat duly noted sir! 👍 Rich

    • @stereomagic1
      @stereomagic1 2 года назад

      The 'queasy' comment about the hammock was just the clambering in, Rich...I'd be tripping over and landing face-first into some unspeakable wetness on the ground there probably...then wiping my face before carrying on with the video, looking a tad sheepish and mud-spattered! 🤣 Keep it up, my friend and I reckon I would go with you because you know what you're doing: it does look like great fun....and I've enough flab on me to keep me warm! x

    • @CottonBud
      @CottonBud  2 года назад

      @@stereomagic1 Ahh I see! Yeah that's a common misconception about hammocks - basically, we are used to seeing the net hammocks in tropical situations tied between two palm trees and they have spreader bars at each end. The type that make up at least 20% of the footage on You've Been Framed. They are lethal. Forget those deathtraps, these hammocks are more like the sort that millions of people sleep soundly in around the world each night, with a bunched up end and no spreader bars. It's actually really difficult to fall out of them - honest! Unless you are REALLY tipsy of course... 🤗

      I'd definitely recommend you give a hammock a go Rachel - just try and borrow one before splashing out maybe, as some folk just don't take to it. But if you do, it makes a very nice change! Thanks for the watch and comment. Cheers. Rich 👍

      Yeh it's a cracking little spot a 20 minute walk from home. The hat thing is down to personal choice ,
    I like the improvised cocoon system I use the snugpak cocoon and with a 0 Celsius bag and a softee suit depending on how cold it is .I find hammock camping very comfortable but a bit of a faff especially if setting up after dark since buying a proper sleep mat after many years I’ve nearly reverted to sleeping on the floor in the winter but I always hammock on the summer away from all the creepy crawlies
    Another great video Rich , regards Mick

    • @CottonBud
      @CottonBud  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Mick - and I agree, it is a time consuming business getting the hang just right a lot of the time. And it's bulky kit, what with underquilts etc. Being inside a hammock bug net in summer is great though eh? So civilised. Unfortunately this spot is inaccessible from May to November as the bracken is just too high, so winter it had to be! Thanks for watching and commenting sir 👍 Rich

    The hat paired with the Swagman poncho and, after a few ales, I'd definitely mistake you for Clint Eastwood!
    Nice camp, I must confess that I sold off my hammock kit last year. I did it for years, loved it and then fell in love with the simplicity of a bivvy bag! Great idea with the Swagman cocoon though, they seem like very versatile bits of kit.
    I'm still a bit unsure about the BCB cooker, I like how it works, but I don't like how it nests with the cup as it wastes too much space. I found that it sits better on the top of the osprey bottle and it also nests wonderfully with the USGI cup! Thanks as always for sharing 👍

    • @CottonBud
      @CottonBud  2 года назад +1

      I'll take Clint! Going to get meself a toscano cigar and work on my squint... I can see how hammock camping may seem like just too much work a lot of the time Barney. I also would only ever hammock solo, as my snoring must be infuriating. Swagman is indeed one of the best things I've bought! My BCB all nests really well - cup and mug bottom and top of the Osprey bottle respectively. The cooker bit is a bit wobbly though. I just think people around the world assume that it's bombproof because its UK made, when in fact it's pretty shoddy - our reputation for quality has been ill deserved for decades now in most cases. We need to take a leaf out of the Swede's and Pole's book when it comes to outdoor gear! Cheers for the watch and comment matey, appreciated once again 👍 Rich

    Another lovely film - the winter sun looked awesome on that one! I've got nearly the same setup as you mate. Superlight hammock/tarp, flecktarn swagman... how is your Swagman attached to your pack - looks like it's floating! lol, all the best, Andy

    • @CottonBud
      @CottonBud  2 года назад +1

      Cheers Andy. Great minds purchase alike! The Swagman is just kept in place by the bungee cordage on the pack, with the loop on it attached to a carabiner as a plan b in case it works free. It's such a great thing to own - I keep mine under the settee and sometimes pull it over me when I'm falling asleep in front of the telly 😅. Flecktarn is the best too eh? 👌I'm just plucking up the courage to wear mine on my Vespa haha. Take care mate. Rich

    • @CottonBud
      @CottonBud  2 года назад

      There is another angle here of course - if our kids admit that something we wear embarrasses them, isn't it our duty to wear it even more, even if we don't like it that much ourselves? Just to wind them up like? It's parenting 101, surely? Thanks for the comment! Rich 👍
