That is because these different things are done by people with different mindsets. my great grandmother was from Scotland. she married a man from Lucknow in the 1920s. they met while they were both studying at Cambridge. they fell in love and married in England, even though my great grandfather’s family did not quite approve of him marrying a Scottish woman at first. my great grandparents lived together in Mussoorie during the tail end of the British Raj. my great grandfather worked as a judge. he passed away tragically young and very suddenly. my great grandmother never remarried or returned to Scotland. her only daughter (my grandmother) moved from Mussoorie, India to Lahore and from there to Dera Ismail Khan, KPK, Pakistan with her husband during the partition while my great grandmother remained in India. she passed away in India a couple years after the 1947 partition. this qawwali, together with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, are both making me really emotional. I have tears in my eyes. I love this so much. what I wouldn’t give to have one conversation with my great grandparents. what I wouldn’t give to have known what their voices sounded like.
This is a very touching message. I never met my grand parents yet alone great grandparents. I would of loved to have heard their experiences. My mum told me her grandad was one of the people migrating during the tragic partition and he was a Sikh and a Muslim family protected them from all the violence going on for three days then they had to leave quickly as the mob were closing in.
A very emotional and touching message. It sounds like that it was a true and great love. May God Bless your great grand parents. It is nice to know that you cherish their memory. Petition was the most tragic event in the recent history of mankind. My mother was from Bangalore but due to partition had to move to Lahore. She couldn't full filled her dream of visiting her birth place before her death. She died in 2003 without ever going back to Bangalore. I am trying to go to Banaglore if I can get a visa.
This song was a Tribute to Lal Shahbaz Qalander, A Muslim Sufi buried in Sindh Pakistan. The original song was first sung by Late Noor Jahan at his tomb in 60s or 70s. She was Pakistan Melody Queen most of her life. The tone of that song was just amazing. Nusrat redid it in his own ways of course. Glad so many enjoyed it.
Amazing but just a little correction the song was not first sung in the 70s rather it was written in 13th century and is sung for nearly 600 years on lal qalanders tomb by sufis, fakirs and buzrigs usually in the sindhi language

Solo tabla by Amrit Dhuffer is marvellously melodious, magnificently memorable, magically momentous and mesmerisingly masterpiece. Scottish Chamber Orchestra is spectacular, sparkling and superlative. The singing is singularly soulful, spellbinding, superb, sincere, sweet and simply superhit. The conductor Clark Rundell has done a truly great job. Felicitation to them all. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Celtic sounds (and places) have always felt like home, and I remember thinking when I was a young teenager how similar Celtic & South Asian sounds were. This collaboration is my dream. Serious goosebumps.
As a western classical musician who also loves qawwali and other genres of music, I love to see things like this. The orchestra is able to play with so many musicians but still highlight the qawwali ensemble and soloists like a concerto. Hoping that someday we will have composers working on qawwali and western music to bring different kinds of arrangements also into the orchestra parts, like Rachmaninoff and other composers did for their piano concertos.
As someone whos grown up with NFAK sahabs music engraved in my mind. This the best tribute to him so far. Its a labor of love and Dhuffer ji and his tabla is simply amazing

If Abi Sampa and the orchestra weren’t outstanding enough, the tabla then comes along and elevates the entire experience.
Further proof that Abi Sampa and her merry band are not human beings but are divine beings appearing in the form of musicians.
Well said. I could not agree more!
Abi's hand movements indicate there exists something beyond this superficial life.
Notice the conductor bounce, Abi and others smile, the closed eyes, the nods, the claps, everything...the visuals take this song to a different level.
An alchemy to mind, body and soul if soul exists?
As much as Abi Sampa and team deserved that standing ovation at the end, that applause was also largely for Nusrats Immortal composition
And the Scottish National Orchestra xx
