- Love ARCADE games? I visited one of the UK's best collections! Visiting the @TheArcadeArchive , a small but perfect collection of vintage arcade machines from the 70s to early Nineties, from Pong to OutRun and many more! Most are original models too! Located near Stroud in the UK. For more information, a current list of games and to book tickets, visit www.retrocollective.co.uk/

It was great to meet you Gordon and what a fantastic job you’ve done on this video.
Thank you 😎👍
Thanks Alex, glad you enjoyed it! It was brilliant to visit the Archive and meet you in person, I can't wait to visit again! Keep an eye open for Space Harrier, Dragon's Lair and Popeye cabs, and let me know when Tempest is working again!
@@DinoBytes Space harrier would be amazing to have in the museum. I’ll keep a eye out 👍
@@TheArcadeArchive did you see PatMan's latest video all about Space Harrier? It's over an hour, so pretty comprehensive!

Alex and the rest at the collective are the real deal, this is truly the best real arcade in the UK for sure.
I can't wait to go back and check out that 3d printed space wars!
Fantastic and very professional review of the Arcade Archive, I am looking forward to my visit in a couple of weeks.
Glad you enjoyed it! Were there any surprises, and what are you most looking forward to playing?
Neat! Thanks Gordon!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Lovely! :)
Thanks!
Gosh it just feels good to know that some place like this exists, even if it is an ocean away!
I hope there's something similar nearer to where you are!
You had me at Outrun! 🙂 I have to go to this place!
Hah! OutRun is a classic! I think it might be RMC Retro Neil's favourite too!
Great! Never have played Arcade but that looks fun!
I wish more arcades across the UK utilized these old arcade game machines. Theyre so much more fun than what you find in most arcades nowadays. Trying not to curse after getting killed by the smug looking Otto in Berzerk while just barely missing the transition to the next room and getting close to beating the high score is a frustration everyone needs to experience at some point 😂.
My favourite arcade games are Berzerk, Dig Dug, Pac-Man and Galaga. personally I absolutely hated the controls of asteroids, found it way too difficult. Im only 18 so didn’t grow up with these games at all, but I enjoyed the few games I could find at local arcades and on emulators. Most of the games I mentioned are ones that had more conventional controls too I suppose, a joystick and some buttons. Ill have to see if I can find somewhere nearby that has Sheriff at some point.
I agree, I wish more arcades had a few vintage classics but I think they require too much maintenance
Ahhhh the good old days. ❤❤❤
"Tempest"...so many hours on that game!
Me too, I was a bit annoyed it was broken!
Defender looks exactly like a game I played on my first tiny screen B/W Mac SE. Can't remember what it was called but it was very fast and became increasingly frustrating the longer you were able to hang on to your ship.
There were some amazing Defender clones on home computers of the time, including Dropzone on the Commodore 64, so I'm sure there was an even better one on a Mac. Not sure what it was called, but today you could just run a name emulator if you like on almost anything.
@@DinoBytes I did some Internet sleuthing and it was actually a bit different from defender (been so long ago, mind playing tricks) , just had a similar look. It was called "Crystal Quest".
As a portuguese 6/8 years old back then in Pos-dictator ship old fashioned Portugal....SPACE INVADERS was my scape from reality. I didn't even played it..only as spectator!😅😂😂😂 25 escudos was the price to pay for a game! A Coca-Cola bottle at the time was 10/15 escudos😢
I also enjoyed watching other people play the games, almost like watching the TV! I loved seeing people who were masters at Defender, or who could complete Dragon's Lair!
I remember finding a Battlezone clone towards the end of a Saturday afternoon at the Trocadero in the 90s. Over a decade old and it was the best thing they had, sadly by then I’d already spent most of my time and shrapnel on Samurai Showdown and various Operation Wolf sequels
Ah The Trocadero! I loved visiting there when it had the giant arcade... Same for the one near the Aquarium and London Eye when they were open - Namco station I think.
Did they have After Burner or the laserdisc shoot em ups , Star Blazer, Mach series etc???
I can't remember 100%, there might have been afterburner, certainly some Segas of that era, but no LD games yet. I'm hoping they'll get a Dragon's Lair and Space Harrier!
I must have dropped hundreds of DM into a Donkey Kong machine at a pizzeria in the early 80's. Only thing missing to reach perfection, is the wall of cigarette smoke in the room.
Yes, you're right! They weren't particularly healthy places in the 80s!
No Polybius? Meh..
