Fun fact: they originally wanted Eddie Murphy for Candyman but he was too expensive. That was a blessing in disguise cause Tony Todd killed it, no pun intended
Eddie Murphy Candyman could have burst out into song “I just want to murder all the time. Murder all the time. Murder all the tiiime.” Rick James as the gang leader.
And Tony Todd was and is much much more handsome than Murphy, he is gorgeous and great in this role. I am not sure if Murphy could pull off Todd's natural grace, he was awesome also in The night of the dead. Such beautiful man.
No disrespect to Eddie Murphy but I can't see him in this role. Tony Todd did a Phenomenal job and made this part his own. Many blessings to both actors!
it can't be overstated enough how much Philip Glass' score added to the greatness of this movie. Tony Todd knocked it out the part with minimal screen time as well. One of my all time fav horror films.
This movie came out when I first joined the US Army and I have to say it has one of the most beautiful scores I've ever heard in any movie and I will always love that stunt when Candyman goes backwards out of that window. CLASSIC!!!
That murderer that they make reference to in this movie about a person getting access to another apartment by climbing through the medicine cabinet actually happened at Cabrini-Green.
Is that the case where a lady kept saying someone was coming for her through her bathroom cabinet but the police wouldn't listen, then she was found dead? I'm sure there were tunnels between the walls of the apartments and a neighbour had crawled through and killed her
@@gemmahamilton2565 They did, but the police didn’t care because the victim in question was mentally ill and she lived in a notoriously shady apartment complex.
Not only is he haunted by her death, but I think he actively regrets that he traded down. She was happy to make dinner for them as we see at the beginning. Where as his little coed friend is annoyed by the whole prospect.
Also from the behind the scenes aspect of the movie; in those scenes where Virginia Madisen (Helen) is or looks hypnotized, it's because the director didn't think Virginia could act believable enough hypnotized, so the director brought in a professional hypnotist to hypnotize her before those scenes were filmed.
I really enjoyed your review. A few people have reviewed this before, Decker Shadow and Cinema Snob ro name just 2. I found your review to be more original in some of the clips you spliced in for comedic effect. I met Tony Todd at Long Beach comic con. He is such a nice gentleman. That being said he still gives me the chills as Candyman.
I remember seeing that South Park episode, then finding out that Philip Glass was the composer on 'Candyman,' and all I could think was, "Really!? THIS guy was the guy they were making fun of?" I know South Park makes fun of literally *everyone,* but it still threw me off, considering what a haunting masterpiece the score for this movie is.
Clive Barker really gets the sexiest men to play the villains in his movies. Sean Chapman in Hellraiser and Tony Todd in Candyman ... I refuse to see any remakes, you can't outdo the sexy Hollywood.
This movie came out when I was 7, and it scared me and my friends so badly. We’d spend hours in the bathroom at my house, saying Candyman once, twiiiiiice….. no no no don’t do it don’t do it! Okay, you go. No no no I caaaaant. I think the first time I actually said it all three times was when I was 8 or 9. I shit you not when I say I made peace with death on that day. (Btw it’s my ghost, writing this comment. The afterworld has pretty decent wifi.)
Hey man thanks for this really needed it today! One week ago marked 2 years since my dear Dad passed and also happens to be 1 week before I move from the house I've lived in since we moved to Pa. 35+ years ago. Lot of memories flooding. And my eyes flooding too candidly lol
I just re watched this and Tony Todd is amazing! I have no idea about the new one, but the original STILL holds up today - classic - great review 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Man, I don't know HOW you're not syndicated all over, just fantastic content! Loved this review of one of my favorite flicks! So funny, so spot on! Love your work, keep it up!!
9:45 If commercials & ads were like yours, I'd never change the channel. Tony Todd will always be Candyman to me (just my opinion) he made that part Scary, Epic & Unforgettable.
Been looking forward to this for a long time. Was so happy you done the 1408 review and now a Candyman one in such short time. Two of my favourite horrors
The Evil Within is well worth watching/reviewing. Go in blind without expectations and I guarantee when it's over you will not be disappointed. Perfect for October
Wow, I didn't watch Candyman yet and after watching this review, it look really good. I will be watching this movie. Great review of Candyman. You rcck Bee Man.
Love this movie. One of my favorite horror movies. The music is beautifully haunting. Terrified and excited me as a child. Would be even more legendary if it was a stand alone film. Still amazing.
I must say, though I have nothing against the newer film version of "candyman" I much and (always have) preferred Clive Barker's horror legend classic. Tony Todd, to me will always will be "candyman". A sterling performance by Mr.Todd, and all cast involved. A true horror movie that still stands up today, Mr. Todd makes "candyman".
God, I love Tony Todd. I'll bee his victim any day. 😏 But on a more serious note, the first act of this film before Candyman's reveal is far more terrifying than anything else because it's honestly a dramatization of real life. It just feels gross, grimey, and oppressive. All that comes after feels a little standard and a tad cliche, but I still enjoy it. Totally agree with the 4 1/2 Bee Score. P.S. - I know there's a joke between you and the bees of the movie, but I'm not clever enough to make one.
Whenever he says, "Be my victim," I can't help but imagine Tony Todd's Candyman playing Mr. Rogers. "Won't you be my...could you be my...won't you be my...my victim?" I do love this movie and Tony Todd as well as the concept of Candyman as a tragic, romantic villain who was first a victim himself. Hey it's not the movie's fault my brain goes to weird places when I hear that one line. lol Apart from my weird connection of two completely unrelated things, I really do love the words, "It was always you, Helen." Something about the movie's musical score somehow can be summed up in those words in my opinion. In fact, I think the soundtrack is my favorite part of this movie as it sounds every bit as mysterious, foreboding, haunting, and tragically beautiful as the film itself, encapsulating all of its best elements into the musical score.
The scariest thing is that empty rooms behind mirrors is a real goddamn thing in some apartment buildings. Great film. Who'd have thunk it that the key to a good horror movie is, you know, an actual story?
Great job 👏 your my favorite RUclipsr and I hope you get many many more views and subscribers you deserve it!! I would like to see you do the new candyman review next im gonna try and watch it soon
Candyman reminds me of Pinhead from Hellraiser 1-2 (Doug Bradley) in so many aspects: - They each had a logical reason for the choices they made and did not deviate from their end game. - Both had such a commanding presence that even when they weren't killing, merely present, it was enough to make your heart race. - Even Pinhead himself had to be summoned. - Just like Candyman spared the baby solely to meet his goal, Pinhead spared Tiffany to focus on Dr Chennard. They were not killers that murdered anybody in their way (like Chucky for example) - they were "intelligent killers" that waited and planned. I'm autistic so I struggle to find the way to phrase what I mean, but I hope someone understands some of what I'm trying to say. Much love fellow Newbees❤✌🐝
Yes I get copyright dings. Usually an appeal gets it thru. If the appeal fails, sometimes I re edit the review and change the copyrighted part. Usually the best way to avoid them is not use exact footage longer than 6-7 seconds. Cut the clips down, re-arrange some of the visuals. Trim back dramatic pauses in dialogs. But sometimes no matter what I do, the copyright holder is unreasonable about it and forgets how fair use works.
@@theNewBee thanks for the response! i'm editing together my 1st review and i realized i haven't taken copyright strikes into account at all. i'm not a lawyer (obviously) but the reason i'm so glad you responded, other than being a fan of your work, is that it seems your reviews hit all the tenets of fair use pretty hard. i was expecting you to say you got 0 dings. anyways, thanks for the response. i'll follow your advice the best i can! :)
Helen should’ve “played dead” in Anne Marie’s apartment. By that I mean pretended to be knocked tf out. If you wake up to the smell of blood, a knife, and a severed dog, maybe don’t go exploring. Stay in the exact position you woke up in, keep your body limp, and take shallow breaths. Think of the game “Man of Medan.” You do NOT want to mess up the breathing sequence. If someone nefarious is still there, you may catch them by surprise. If there’s a distraught mother, maybe she won’t blame you.
That’s right bitch he said “most” not all! I’m one of the proud ones who watch his movies start to finish. Can’t stop the sigma male movie review binge 😎
Just watched the new Candyman 2021. A few people from the original had a quick cameo. It was good, but I still love the original. Check it out if you get a chance.
So if you compile a tape of famous singer saying candy man three times and play the tape to the mirror then the candy man will haunt that dead singer in hell?
I love your work but after what I've gone through rafter a horrific auto accident on December 9 , 2021 ... Yeah my mom's floor model TV lasted from 1976 through 1991. They don't make them like that anymore.
Classic gorefest. Tony Todd is a legend. Awaiting budget sequel: 'Handyman'...
Awaiting MY ASS
This movie isn’t that gory well at least not violent gory.

Have you listened to any of his quartets? They're great. I recommend "Company."
One of my favourite horror movies till date! The background score has been etched in my head forever. One of Philip Glass’s masterpieces
I said Virginia Madsen 5 times and sadly nothing happened. I just want to appreciate her beauty. She was in her prime filming this.
I love the cat intro! I'll take more of that! 🤘🐈⬛
Re-watched Candyman a couple months back before the recent one released and the score was just so good!
It's a great movie
