I saw Cardigan Bay race in NZ and to race so well here and in both Australia and USA at the age he was is a testament to his ability over all distances. Truely one of the great horses that graced the track. Thanks for the posting... great memories!!

What an amazing horse after going to America late in career.

Greatest pacer ever. All this after severe off the track accident early in his career.

It looked to me that Ervin was intimidated by Dancer. He had the better horse and it showed in later races. Two of the all time greats along with the big Bird Albatross.

Bret Hanover was the greatest harness horse that I ever saw. Frank Ervin may have been a great trainer but a driver like Joe O'Brien would have optimized Bret's record.

Can you imagine if they'd ever both met at their peaks? Cardy was at his peak in 1963.

Not exactly his finest drive.....In rematch at RR, Bret was a dominant winner on the front end
