How delightful and a reader too of good books. I love Haruki Murakami. The fact you were able to keep those alive for a year says a lot. I have not reached a year yet with any of my Ecuagenera ones and bodies are dropping.
👁️ You did everything right...because it was right for you! Love watching you because you are unashamedly YOU. Also, team LECA as it's the most sustainable as far I know. 💚
Just a profile-pictured guy coming in to tell you that you did everything right. And that I also subscribe to the not-pruning-so-things-get-longer-when-I-could-fill-out-the-pot train of thought.
I am definitely a soil person..I like having the earth around me inside.....I feel more grounded--haha. I read every day & the subjects are all over the place ( except Romance.. that phase was 40 years ago). See you soon
I use SNS 209 Systemic. It is organic and made from rosemeric acid, made from rosemary. It worked great killing mealy roots and spider mites. Not harmful for other animals and etc! Love update!!!! Keep an eye on them for a couple weeks. Basically like putting a water prop into soil.
If I have healthy leaves I want to keep, water is my favorite prop method (but is the slowest in my experience). For hoyas, I am enjoying pon. For wet sticks and plants that I'm rescuing from death, I use moss.
Hey pam!! Loved the video! Such pretty plants😍😍!!! I am new to the propagation world I have a couple in water and an alocasia corm, watermelon pep, and a piccolo pep in a storage box in perlite and soil because my sphagnum moss wasnt in and the alocasia is starting to ever so slightly start to show growth so I'm not touching it at the moment...see ya in the next one....hope you have an amazing week!💙💙💙
love to prop in water then transfer to soil. I found my choco red does well in self watering pot even if you don't have a lot of humidity ,if the soil is moist its happy . I don't have the brains for hydro lol I do like leca and pon for propagation especially for Hoyas . that works well.
It’s so refreshing to hear you say your plant style is “neglect” haha girl, same! Also, mental health comes first and sometimes, I don’t feel like taking care of 150ish houseplants. 😂 but because of it, dealing with a thrips outbreak. Beneficial pests seems overwhelming to me but I just might have to look into it if Captain Jacks deadbug + systemic don’t end up working. Anyway, I use perlite, sphag, or just water, all depending on the plant I’m proping. 😊
That combo should work just fine, and prob a little faster than IPM. You will never catch me bullshitting y’all about something as fundamentally unimportant as houseplants. Im as sick of the toxic faux perfection on social media as you probably are! Some of my plants look like shit. Sometimes I just throw away plants I probably could save. Sometimes I see pests and leave it for another day. Sometimes I’m wrong about stuff on my videos. Welcome to Club Mess! 😂💚
@@PamsPrettyPlants And that is what is great about it! No one is perfect and I wish I knew these things 10 years ago instead of 3, I would have gotten into houseplants then. I was TERRIFIED of killing a plant. Now I’m like, oh well, we just didn’t jive. On to the next. 💁🏻♀️ Thanks for the awesome content!
I always come back to water prop. It’s the most no fail for me. I like air layering too when I’m not lazy. I’ve always been really against systemic, but I also reached my breaking point this summer and bought some. I’m just over the thrips and spider mites. I also couldn’t keep up with the expense of predatory bugs. I can be so hard on myself sometimes about taking the easy way out but sometimes that’s what’s best for my mental health.
I'm very veryyy hands off, so I when I notice vines going everywhere, I just cut them up then put them in water. I don't even replace the water, I just top them up when I notice leave going dry.
Such an interesting topic for a video, so a series would be awesome! Also a video on an update for you awaited book would be muchly appreciated too. Xx
I would love love to hear more about your experience with the No Buy! I would love to try it because I often turn to plant shopping when faced with anxiety or overwhelm. I am especially interested in what some of your most effective alternative soothing activities were? You rock! Thanks for your content and self ☺️💚
I watched so much RuPaul’s Drag Race 😂 I have also been focusing on appreciating what I have so I’ve been repotting, painting walls, actually reading the books I accumulated, “using up” and finishing things is a thousand times more satisfying it turns out 😅
When the read feels that long, it’s probably because you’re not really enjoying it. That happens to me sometimes because I’m incapable of stopping a book mid-read and then it’s like a job to get through it lol
I have a love-hate relationship with long winded authors. I usually find I enjoyed the overall story but some chapters can be a slog. I will give up on a book if I’m never sucked in tho. Life is too short!
Favorite prop method is multi step… start in water, then perlite or pon once roots get started. Then finally to chunky soil once I have a robust root system with plenty of secondary roots. Also, I’m starting to get into integrated pest mgt since your video and I’m hoping I can keep it going thru the winter!!
I love the interior of your house it looks so witchy! Those are some really pretty plants as well. I love the fact that they're a little wonky, it gives them character. But my fingers were itching to do some propagating when I saw them I must admit! 🌿🌿 I propagate in water mostly, but have some propboxes with moss.
Loved this Pam. Thanks for sharing and cheering me up. I’m a propagate in water person. Tried sphagnum and perlite, but always come back to straight up water.
For trailing plants like Epipremnum, Scindapsus and Philodendron Hederaceum, I prefer to propagate directly into soil! I've been trying out rooting in perlite using no-drainage vessels and I'm really enjoying it. I want to play around with it more and maybe even try a technique I haven't heard of before with it, I just have to buy more perlite. Water just doesn't do it at all for me anymore. So soil is my go to usually, but I feel like perlite is very close behind it. I used to love using sphagnum moss but I cannot stand picking it off the roots. I repotted a Monstera cutting yesterday that I rooted in moss and I hated myself for it every second. :^) I'm only going to be using sphagnum for air-layering now.
Hi Pam, to get rid of gnats, spider mites and others, I’m trying a new method. Wood matches the critters don’t like sulphur and also keep your coffee grind that you use to make coffee with and dry it out and sprinkle a tiny bit, apparently it keeps the critters away cause they don’t like the smell. I started to try it and it seems to help, because so far I don’t see none.
Water. I propogate in spring water (or filtered). Any other method, end up with rotted cuttings. Can I ask what you're using for systemic? Love your channel.
We're having a local popup with them in Detroit literally TOMORROW lol, so this is an EXTREMELY timely upload haha! Also, happy to finally see someone not vibe with semi-hydro like me! It's just so much more work for me with a big collection.
OMG,I TOTALLY NEEDED A PAM CHAT VIDEO THIS MORNING!!!!!! Had a shit week and you made me smile, thank youuuuuuu🥰🥰🥰💓. I still prefer water propagation. I do have a perlite prop box that does do well for string of hearts,to make many plants rather than one string in water. I use moss occasionally. Water is my fav. Thank you for this video 🤩😍🤩😍
I have two favorite prop methods, after trying most. My first favorite, since discovering the magic that comes inside the Rapid Start bottle, is RO water. My second favorite is Fluval Stratum (a soil media for planted fish tanks). Sometimes I use it plain, sometimes I will mix it with Pon, and sometimes I will layer it with a thin layer of activated charcoal on the bottom with a small amount of leca on top of that, then the rest with stratum (in clear plastic disposable cups). The latter seems to work the best for me.
I keep hearing about the fluval stratum! Like just this week I keep coming across it. You know that thing where you go your whole life without hearing a word and then suddenly you hear it everywhere. That’s happening 😂
semi hydro isn´t for me as well... i usually use just water to propogate with water... i just finished listening to you made a fool out of death with your beauty by Akwaeke Emezi... i would call it a food romance with grief and family in the center... it´s absolutely heartbreaking, but glorious
Just finished that before the Murakami, I really liked it and I’m not usually one for romance but the characters and the complexity of the situation, so good.
Hey Pam, your looking beautiful as usual. 💚 I noticed your Plowmanii leaves getting smaller at top, the one I have is in a window box an leaves are finally sizing up. Not sure it makes a difference, just curious. 💚
That’s such a good idea, someone else mentioned that as well! I completely spaced that these are crawlers. 😅 I’m gonna get a box for it so it can be happy. Appreciate you!
@@PamsPrettyPlants YW, I have one in a clear plastic shoe box from Dollar store. I put 3 holes in it an works just as well. Sometimes it’s hard to find window box. 😀💚
Nice looking plants - I've been repotting most of my plants to get ready for the winter - also purging plants (giving them away) and decluttering the home - it's sad we collect things all of our lives just to have to declutter them I wish I would of known this when I was younger. I listen to a ton of audio books but I haven't read any good ones lately, I'm just going to start Undaunted Courage by Stephen E. Ambrose about the Lewis and Clark expedition hope it's good.
Ugh I’m such a hobby related collector I have way too much stuff but I also actually use the stuff for the most part, just not often, so it’s so hard to get rid of!!

And thank you 💚
I’m late ⏰ and a lazy water 💧 propagator. I leave them for too long before potting them. I love how they look in the glass.
Yay great way to start my day !!

I love water propagation! Sometimes I use soil, the one time I used moss it just didn’t really do much for me.
I still use water to propagate. It works for me.
Team perlite!! Spag and I are definitely not friends.. so I’ve found that perlite is a nice transition into soil 😁
You look gorgeous and your hair has gotten so long! Your room is stunning too. I love the gold, pink, and that moody teal. 💙
I miss the make up tutorials! So on point!
Thank you both 🥰 trying to get my make up back since COVID
I use moss and water depending on the plant
I'm usually either a water or sphagnum moss propagator :)

Piccolo peps are SO freaking cute I love them. I am afraid to breathe around my alocasia when they’re trying to grow something 😂
It depends on the plant...mostly perlite, but water is a close second. :)
I need to try the perlite! It’s one of the only ways I haven’t tried
I'm not sure if anyone has said it yet or not, but the Philodendron Plowmanii is a crawler! I kind of love the wild growth yours has though!
Thank you!!
I chop & prop right into water :D
Me too usually! Whatever involves the least amount of effort at this point 😅
@@PamsPrettyPlants same!! lol
My fave propagation method is probably still straight into soil, but I also started using sphagnum. I will always defer to the tried and true: water.
Love the update! Your plowmanii is looking a little funky because it's a crawler, not a climber.
That makes a lot of sense, thank you!
@@PamsPrettyPlants You’re welcome!

Yes I agree on the hoya and leca! Adam/KnotDude told me about that and it got me to try it.
@@PamsPrettyPlants I don't get it though. Some I tried months in water then realised it takes days in leca. So weird!
F semi-hydro!!! It is so much faf, I just can’t.
I think Plowmanii is a crawler which maybe why its crazy? Either way, awesome growth- I killed mine 😂

Not really sure if i am correkt but i think the plowmanii is a climbing mamei.

Team water definitely. Recently tried perlite however had some casualties so I'm not sure if it beats moss which is my second favourite method.
