    always enjoy your videos, let me ask you, do you think the s550 is worth the buy?

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 лет назад

      Hi Trent, to answer in a word, absolutely! For roughly the cost of a tank of gas for my truck, we have access to a complex high performance aircraft full of wiz bang technology. Heck yeah. Love flying the S550! Does it have flaws? Yep, but, minor in my opinion. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching and comment! Kindest Regards, Tim G, FS MaNiA

      FS MaNiA while on the subject of citations, have you tried any of the eaglesoft products other than the citation x? I have my eye on the cj1 2.0, just not sure of the quality and if they are worth the 50 bucks?

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 лет назад

      In a perfect world, Eaglesoft functionality combined with Carenado textures make the perfect model. I don't have any other Eaglesoft planes in my hanger so I'm not sure if they have improved visuals. I think the Citation X

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 лет назад

      Opps , hit the wrong button,, using iPhone. I think Eaglesoft released the Citation around 2012. I don't know when they released the CJ? It seems like they are very concerned with keeping their aircraft easy on frame rates, so, they comprise visual quality keeping polygon count low to help. (In my opinion). I would be ok if they left all the passenger cabin out our option to cut it off, and focused on cockpit textures instead. That's my 2 cents. Cheers, Tim G FS MaNiA

    Tim, I got a lot out of this new video as well as the first 3 your did on the S550.
    One thing I am very interested in is your mapping of the spoilers to your yoke you mentioned in this video. Did you use FSUIPC to do that? If so, what command did you map too. I looked around a little bit in FSUIPC but did not find anything that would specifically "extend" and "retract" spoilers. Can you point me in the right direction?
    Thanks, Jerry

      @FSMaNiA  9 лет назад

      Hi Jerry, I have a Saitek X-55 Rhino HOTAS system. I also have FSUIPC. The X-55 has a number of switches that can be customized in various ways. Using the Saitek interface software, I mapped the "/" key (extend retract spoilers or speed brakes) to a switch on the X-55. Bada bing bada boom, simple as pie! Much easier to deploy and I can keep my head up on the roll out. Hope that helps. Thank you for your comment and question! Kindest Regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

    Do you have to open the 2d HSI or AP pop up previously, to actívate the HSI 3D VC switches and get them working from the VC? I usually have this issue, starting from cold and dark...

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 лет назад

      Raul Aubele I haven't had to use the pop-up for the HSI VC switches, however, I did need to use a view of the switches that was up close and down low to get the best angle. Can you zoom in closer to see if they operate normal? In order to change the map mode on the HSI from 360d to Arch mode, I did have to use the 2d pop-up of the HSI to locate the click spot. I demonstrated that in the S550 flight from Bozeman to Hoquiam. Hope that helps Raul. Kindest Regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

    No TCAS warning about the aircraft trying to make you a hood ornament?

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 лет назад

      jamball2 I know right! I wrote a strongly worded letter to the FAA regarding that incident. ;)

    • @jamball2
      @jamball2 9 лет назад

      FS MaNiA Sorry, what I was asking was; Does the Carenado S550 have a working TCAS or not? Why did you not get a traffic alert if it does? Was the transponder in TA/RA mode?

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 лет назад

      hmmm..., good question jamball12, I'm not sure of the answer right off the top of my head and it's been a few months since I flew the S550. I will have to load up the aircraft and check the TCAS system functionality. Since this model was a 1980's model, It may not have been fully developed at that time. I will get back with you when I get back to my sim and let you know what I find out. Tim G., FS MaNiA

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 лет назад

      jamball2 I checked this morning and there is TCAS option on the MFD menu. I switched it on and it actually indicated targets in the vicinity. Not sure how accurate it is, but at least it is there as an option. In my experience with TCAS in the Terminal area, if left on, you get a lot of alerts, understandably, as there are many aircraft in the vicinity. Even if I were using the TCAS enroute, I would have probably switched it off during the final approach to avoid the distraction. I don't know, I just hope the tower controller who fell asleep received a stern reprimand!! ;)

    Great video, can I ask, can you tune the radios from the FMS?

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 лет назад

      Steve Walton Hi Steve, thanks and so sorry for the delayed response to your question. I have been immersed in flying A2A's P-51 Mustang and just now completed and uploaded a new flight training video in the P-51. Good question about radio tuning from the FMS, however, sorry to say, I'm not certain if it is possible in the real world version or the Carenado version. It's been a while now since I flew the S550 so I am rusty on the finer points of the FMS. I do recall this is an early model (1980's) FMS by Universal. Even so, it seems like most FMS units provide means for radio tuning so, guessing, I would think it is possible in the real world unit. Still guessing, I doubt Carenado provided that feature. Their version of the unit (at the time I made this video it was just released) is marginally operational compared to FMS's by other developers. The good news is those Collins radios are some of the easiest tuning radios I have flown with in Flight Simulator. Hope this was helpful. Thanks again for the comment and question. Stay tuned! Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

      Thanks Tim much appreciated! I do fly this bird but I haven't bought the navigraph option yet but I'm about to! Absolutely love your style and look forward to Many more! Will be very interested to see what you think to the Hawker too! Regards.

      Steve Walton I purchased the Hawker on release day (mistake) and flew it once. It had a few bugs so I put her in the hanger and started flying A2A's P-51 (absolutely love that bird). I have seen a couple of service packs released on the Hawker, so I am looking forward to taking her out of the hanger now that I finished my P-51 series. I plan to produce a flight video on the Hawker in the very near future. Thanks again. Tim G., FS MaNiA

    Is there a init per page on the fmc? Will it calculate v-speeds for you? I guess I've been spoiled by the level-d 767 Fms lol.

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 лет назад

      The Lowmein I am not able to check on this for sure because I am away from the Sim this week. The FMS is modeled after a mid 1980's unit and it is pretty basic. As best I can remember, I don't think there is a functioning performance initialization page modeled in this FMS. I am pretty sure Carenado provided enough documentation to pull them from the charts. You can coax some vertical navigation from the FMS on descent if you have a STAR selected. There's that. Thanks for the question. Hope this helped. Kindest Regards! Tim G. FS MaNiA

    Great video. I have heard many complaints about this bird; have the service packs rectified the issues? Looking to get the bird soon so just wanted to make sure that I am not dissatisfied with the buy.

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  8 лет назад

      +Reynell Barnett Hi Reynell! If you look in the AVSIM Forums under the Carenado Support section you will see their are a lot of Carenado complainers weighing in with their dissatisfaction. In my opinion Carenado does a good job with the visual model. The flight dynamics, system modeling, and avionics are typically problematic for hard core flight simmers.
      Our flight sim community has several top tier developers who go to great lengths to provide a very accurately modeled add-on aircraft, i.e., PMDG, Majestic, Flight1, A2A, RealAir, ect... Carenado seems to be focused more on quantity than quality. The crank out a lot of models in a very short period of time.
      Unfortunately Carenado provides very little documentation for any of their aircraft. This isn't a problem until you start flying a complex high performance jet with very sophisticated avionics. There is always a lot of confusion on procedures required to operate the aircraft's systems and avionics. I can typically figure out a way to make the jet do what I want, however, it isn't necessarily based on real world accurate procedures.
      Finally, I will say that there is a shortage of offerings by other developers in "Business Class Jets". Carenado is about the only developer who that I'm aware of who has released a Business Class Jet in the last couple of years. They have released the Phenom 100, Phenom 300, Hawker 850XP, and the Citation S550! All very nice Jets!
      I am hoping that one or more of the top tier developers will take on a new business jet project sometime in the near future. Until then,,,, we fly what we have. Flight Simulation has come a long way and keeps getting better all the time. So I for one am grateful for that!
      Thanks for tuning in and kindest regards from Tim G., FS MaNiA

    Excellent Vid, thanks! Of all of these FMS in the Corp. jets category, what has been your best experience with which model? What I have seen so far is the Carenado Hawker. If there is a better choice Corporate jets) please let me know.Could I add-on this Citation to what I own actually which is Microsoft FS X with Accelaration Expansion Pack?
