  • This is a new and updated version of The Carenado Hawker 850XP flight start up and autopilot procedures with some new tips and tricks. The Carenado version of the Hawker can be a challenging aircraft to learn mainly because there is limited information provided for the complex Collins Proline 21 avionics package.
    Our flight today is from Kenai, Alaska (PAEN Orbx scenery) to one of the most remote locations in North America,,, Dutch Harbor (PADU Aerosoft scenery) a 650 NM flight
    In this Part 1 of 2 of our PAEN to PADU flight, we perform a cold & dark start-up procedure. Not every system is modeled perfectly, however, we do have enough functionality to fly the airplane with a reasonable level of realism.
    The Carenado version of the Hawker is available at www.carenado.com. Please refer to our Channel's "about" tab for more information on or Flight Sim Rig and software specs.
    Climb aboard, buckle-up, and enjoy the flight!! Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

    Hi Tim ,(FSMANIA). I have been looking at your tutorials over and over as I plan to download the Carenado Hawker 850XP soon. So far I have been happy with Carenado's quality in general. I think with your pleasant voice and your patience perrhaps I wii find this one an adventurous choice. My son is a comercial pilot and he an be of help . We wtched some of your tutorials together and he was impressed. He had flown this plane before, and he thought, for the most part, it was pretty accurate. Thanks, I will continue to watch your tutorials. Thank You, Stephan Leonard, Sr.

      Thank you Steve! Congratulations on your Son's achievements in aviation. I do have a Private Pilot's license with an instrument rating, however, I am a full time Design Build General Contractor (read amateur pilot when compared to the pros). I'm glad your son approved of my limited skills.

    I have just completed several takeoff test and determined that the "FL Alert On/OFF" really wasn't the key to success with the "FLC" proper function.
    Takeoff 1) FL Alert = OFF. I used the Altitude selector knob to set initial altitude to 7000 ft. I used the pitch wheel to move the VS indicator on the speed tape to 2000 FPM thereby also moving the flight director bar up to approx. 10 degree nose up pitch. Selected HDG mode. Did a normal takeoff. Engaged the AP Autopilot at 1000 ft. Engaged "FLC" at 200 Knots. The nose pitched up and the aircraft climbed rapidly and pretty much maintained the 200 knots. At 6000 feet I got the audible warning for 1000 to go (in spite of leaving the FL Alert = Off). The aircraft leveled off roughly at the 7000 ft target altitude and ultimately captured it.
    Takeoff 2) FL Alert = ON I used the same procedure from an my first Hawker video; set initial altitude with Altitude selector knob, press Altitude selector knob and the Alt key to cancel the ALTS mode. Use the pitch wheel to command a 10 to 12 degree climb out pitch. Use HDG mode. Normal takeoff, engage autopilot, engage FLC at desired climb speed. The aircraft climbed through the target altitude and no audible warning was received. FL Alert = On didn't change a thing.
    Based on those two test I think I can safely assert that "FL Alert ON/OFF" don't do squat on this model. The key to success with the "FLC" mode seems to be in the pre-takeoff mode selections and key strokes pertaining to Altitude. I did a third take-off with the same method as Takeoff 1 described above, and achieved the same results.
    Sheesh, such is the life of a Carenado Hawker Driver Trial and error, guess work, and patience. Very sorry for the confusion about the FL Alert setting. It was pretty much a coincidence I found that menu setting (not in the documentation) and used the Takeoff 1 procedure (above) on the same flight. Incorrectly assumed the FL Alert = On setting was the key to success for proper FLC function when it was really just the initial autopilot setup method that worked.
    Sorry for the confusion. This aircraft has been more challenging than most of Carenado's in part because it is more complex and the documentation is minimal.
    Cheers, Tim G., FS MaNiA

    Great video! Thank you!
    Do you guys also have a problem with FLC being way too aggressive? Mine pitches up about 10 degrees and then down 20. Following this I disengage AP and fly by hand until I get pitch hold programmed.

    HI Tim,, thanks alot for your efforts to do such an amazing video. I wanna ask you though, do you use GPU while starting from cld&drk because mine if I didn't use the GPU, the plane power dies after like 5-8 min I guess,,, and thanks in advance

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  7 лет назад

      Hi Ahmed, I don't use the GPU for start. I do have a registered version of FSUIPC that has a setting for extending the unrealistic battery drains found in many add-on aircraft.

    Are those patches of grass only visible at the airport or is it a global addon?

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 лет назад +1

      FoodOfTheGods Hi FoodOfTheGods, That grass is part of the Orbx scenery for the PAEN airport. Orbx includes a lot of nature, wildlife, etc., in their airport add-ons. They also give you the option to turn them off if they take too heavy a toll on the frame rates. With Orbx regional areas, they will upgrade many of the default airports with static aircraft and a few additional buildings, however, I don't think they add ground textures for those. They do have an FTX Global "Vector" scenery add-on, however, it focuses on power lines, roads, shorelines, and such. No grass on a global level that I'm aware of. The grass is a nice touch as long as it doesn't rob frames and fluidity of the flight model. Hope that helps. Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

    please tell me what the PUSH FUEL TEMP, SMOKE / FWD, DETECT / LAV, TEST / AFT, ENABLE / FSU 1 BUT POWER switches are responsible for? they are below the FMS panel

    • @FSMaNiA

      It’s been a while but I’ll look at it later today.

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  4 года назад

      I did a quick look at that portion of the panel. The outside air temperature gauge (OAT) normally reads outside air temperature. A push of the "Fuel Temp" button will read fuel temperature which is a concern when it gets too cold. The "FWD, LAV, AFT" switches refer to smoke detector locations. The switches allow for testing the operation of those detectors. I'm not 100% sure but I think the "FSU 1 BATT PWR" Switch is for a back up battery to provide power to essential avionics in the event of a failed electrical system? I don't remember if Carenado modeled all of these switches but I doubt they did? For more information check out the AVSIM User Forums under the Carendo Hawker 850XP thread. Hope that helps. Cheers, Tim

      Hi Johan, When I get back to producing the next round of videos, I am planning on finishing the last leg of the Carenado Phenom 300 flight from Brazil to Wichita. After that, I am going to focus on a few of the top tier aircraft developers for a while. I need a break from Carenado. They look pretty on the outside, but can be frustrating to fly. Beauty is only skin deep.

    Can you load saved flight plans?

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 лет назад

      I'm not real sure, but if you can I believe you would have to use the built-in FSX flight plan feature. I don't recall provisions in the Carenado lite FMS for saving flight plans. There is the capability of entering airways however which vastly speeds up flight plan entry. Hope that helps! Cheers, Tim G., FS MaNiA

      I'll try because I save a flightplan through using simbrief and I saved it as the FSX files with .pln. I have yet another question (I hope this isn't too many) Do you you know (I haven't tried yet) if the hawker is RNAV capable or GNSS capable or both? And thank you for responding it's very helpful.

    • @Comedy3610
      @Comedy3610 9 лет назад

      I answered my own question to the RNAV and GNSS. I was really asking to know it's equipment code becuase I would need it for vatsim and I found out it's /F which means it has a transponder and is FMS capable with DME position updating if you ever need to know.

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 лет назад

      The Hawker's FMS can fly any RNAv or GPS approach. You can update the database using Navi-Graph subscription. The Collins Proline equipment in the Carenado model is not WAAS capable. That capability was added to later models. This means you don't get vertical glide path info on GPS approaches like you can with WAAS capable equipment. The system will of course give vertical glide path guidance flying ILS approaches. Hope that helps. Cheers, Tim G., FS MaNiA
