Things to note for everyone. You do not shift to this build from Grenadier at early stage. Shift ONLY when you're at END GAME stage. This will make you frustrated. Trust me. So, for now if you're still at Cruel maps. Just continue your gas granada. And shift when you have 1mil gold. This way you got extra buff money to change Passive Tree. Just my two cents.
I kinda agree, but If you know the goal and how to attain better traits on armor, you can start the process in act 2. Definitely don't rush into it, but I'm doing 2kdps with my galvanic pre buffs at the start of act 3
I’ve tried this build, and it can be quite frustrating if it’s not fully optimized. Early on, you’ll likely feel annoyed because it takes time to deal significant damage or even defeat rare enemies. This is especially true if you encounter one with lightning resistance. I highly recommend attempting this build only when you have enough currency to fully develop it.
I’ve tested this build at tier 10, which is where I currently am. I spent a lot of gold refunding my passive skills, and my skill gem is only at 3 slots because upgrading it to 4 is too expensive. I was expecting it to be a significant upgrade compared to the grenade build, but I was immediately disappointed-it felt like a slap in the face. Honestly, it’s probably a skill issue on my part.
@@ikaizerv9823 That's not a skill issue my friend, it's just overall witchunter perfomance atm. You either play HoWa+Doryani setup with ES and Grim Feast(25+ divines) or you just suck at the engame. Even deadeye with a crossbow is much stronger than fucking Witchunter that suppose to be the "crossbow-guy". Sorry for my eng btw.

The problem is that my damage is not optimized because I'm going in heavy on evasion. but you are right, to get this build going, you need money lol. my crossbow alone was 18 exalt, which made me broke
@ikaizerv9823 highly recommend doing the val orb trick to get 4 slot gems for a matter of exalts. Allows you to follow guides alot better on any class
At level 55 I swapped my grenadier for a bleed build. It looked faster, more sexy, more what I was looking for. Man was it expensive. And man was I wrong! I felt weak, fragile and totally skill-less..... I ended up broke and frustrated. Played 2 more levels and thought that my char was bricked.... Even started a new one. Thankfully to my stubbornness, I was able to respec point by point to my grenades. So the next time I'll switch to something bling bling ...it will only be if I have the right gems, level and gold reserves. I guess this is part of the learning curve.
Just my experience, I’ve been running these exact electric crossbow merc builds with witchunter ascendency and was having issues with single target without using the lightning rain arrows to get shock damage adding up on single targets. But when I got into late act3 I was really struggling to apply electric or shock and I was using kitikoks gloves the whole time. I got so frustrated I just decided to swap to some decent rare gloves with attack speed instead of kikotos and my damage skyrocketed it was insane. I went from considering a full respec to a new char while using the unique gloves to feeling op and dominating by simply switching to a good pair of rare gloves (good for lvl 44). So if you are struggling and using kikotos try getting some rare gloves, that attack speed nerf really hurts crossbow users cause it nerfs not only attack speed but also reload speed
Been playing galvanic shards since I unlocked it. It keeps getting stronger and stronger with better gear and my own passive skill tree pathing. Also, as a fun little secret....you can place a totem that emits a rage aura to get a multiplicative dmg boost everytime you stand near the totem. Its fun :)

I tried to follow a similar popular build on moba, but I switched to this one and my experience is 500x smoother. super easy to build, idk what other people are talking about w the price of it.
1000000% agreed been playing this build since day 1 and it is not expensive at all. RNG plays a factor and I definitely did respec multiple times during survivability issues. But I'm blasting through and have very little issues
Gas grenade is just a lot cheaper, i used a lv33 crossbox from act3 to act3 cruel. And then i use that lv65 crossbow till tier15-17. Now i just respec’d to lighting build and im mapping slower, but bossing feel a lot better
Great video, one suggestion though for next time if you could. When you say the support jems you run can you say which level they are from. Just helps follow along a bit easier as some of us don't have level 3s just yet! :)
I've been lucky to hit the gloves corrupted with lightning pen, the budget version of the build is affordable in casual but upgrades are quite expensive. Shouldn't you opt for lvl to all lightning skills instead of projectile on the amulet? Thatt would include the mark and the ward which is quite interesting

You can wear rare gloves with life, resis, armour/eva & attack speed (armour base is best if you play with Leather Bound Gauntlets).
I love the build I just hit 41 lvling with this and it’s starting to really come online. It melts every normal, magic and rare atm but struggles on boss fights currently. I imagine once I hit 51 will be a lot smoother with boss dmg. Overall loving the build and can’t wait to unlock all my dmg dealing skills.
Bro i literally did the exact same skills and support gems! My passive tree was slightly different tho, I went down projectile damage/elemental damage which was really good but adjusted the nodes to fit your tree and it destroys bosses alot faster lol maybe now that I have the nodes you do, elemental damage could be bonus later on. Appreciate you bro for the upgrade 💯
I’m also using War Banner. I just build stacks while mapping and plant it just before the boss becomes damageable. It’s 30% “more” damage at max stacks.
Anyone know what a tree specced into ES would look like? I've been running a version of this build since release almost and thinking it's time to spec into ES now.
the problem is not how expensive this one is, it´s about the fact you can achieve more (tankyness + dmg) with less cost and steps by just switching to better classes... balance is completely trash

How can the Lightning Mastery be used TWICE, under Plasma Blast and under Sorcery Ward? Personally I cannot really test it since I haven't unlocked the SW ascendancy skill.
Wouldn't the INT requirements of the energy shield gear be a problem on this build? Wouldn't your stats be all over the place because you would still need DEX and STR as well for the crossbow requirements?
@@brokengamer7737 They might do something, but it might not work very well. They never even got armor into a good place in POE1 after 10 years. They are just bad at balancing, in general.

How are you able to run three buffs at the same time, as I didn't see extra on your gear? The lack of spirit, currently at 73, prevents me from activating a third buff (Herald of Thunder/Wind Dancer/ Sorcery Ward) activated at the same time.
You should have 100 spirit at the end of the acts. 30 for herald of thunder, 30 for wind dancer, 10 clarity, 10 precision and 15 cannibalism = 95 spirit. Not played it yet but I don't think sorcery ward costs spirit? Make sure you don't put your gems that cost spirit with spirit ward?
While reading the comments its clear that anything to do with galv shards and shockburst or anything with witch hunter is all considered trash? Merc is S tier class supposidly but so many disagree. Those that chose witch hunter cant go back. They make a new char? Or do we all go merc monk or monk to hyper clear stuff?
yeah dont swap to this if you aren't ready with the currency to build, I dont have any greater jewellers orbs nor do I have perfect gear, my gear is decent tbh but after swapping I'm getting steamrolled because I dont kill things as fast as I was with gas grenade builds

Man, I‘m done with Lightning, have a Lightning Ranger already and a Monk both at Level 80+, I made a Merc with Fire and with the Merc, you gotta hang in tough, its a grind until you get a better crossbow, which was Level 28 for me, its still a very underwhelming weapon, but 3 times better what I got before, so all you Merc starters, its gonna be a grind
What a perfect opportunity. I was just thinking that I would love to play mercenary for a bit as long as I don’t play grenades. I was seeing too many people using the grenade playable and this rapid fire lightning ammo is more my style.
Been running this build on my Deadeye Shockburst rounds work way better on a Deadeye it basically has twice the damage with the accension passive that gives you an extra projectile per shot.
isn't it is boring to see that every single strongest build is lightning build? wtf? I agreed with them nerfed cold cof builds, they were too much, but from 70% to 4%? basically cof unplayable, frost builds falling off as soon as endgame begins, and I was enjoying playing it in company. I've never even HEARD about fire builds (except warriors bleeding build). I hope they will fix the balance
I agree. They need to just learn to nerf things more slowly and with a moderate hand. Instead of nerfing things into the ground, make small adjustments and see how they play out. I can’t understand why they want to TANK the fun and their game constantly.
Been playing this for a few days now and I have never been squishier in my life. How is this better than nades? Was playing with nade spam and armour/evade and took the advice here that it was going to top out. Worst decision ever.
Reading other comments, someone suggested taking off the electrocution glove. Right idea and helped a lot but was still lacking for me. Looking through what I could move around, we dont need electrocution build up so took those points out and built to Heavy Ammunition. Now the dmg feels much better. Still too squishy. Looking at why, this build has you take feel no pain and battle hardened but tells you to stop stacking armour. Took those points and moved them down to Spectral ward. Take a chest with as much evasion as possible here cause you are double dipping for Spectral Ward and Bestial Skin. NOW this feels WAY better. Still not sure its better than nades imo but def not a squishy little ant and have enough shield to actually take a hit and not disintegrate. Im 83 right now and will probably pick up Shadow Dancing and Endless Circuit as I get closer to 90
All Mercenary builds are extremely squishy unfortunately. It's miserable. I regret playing this class. Feel like I wasted 100 hours of my life because the class just deadends in endgame. No survivability.
the crossbow used in the video has no elemental damage buff was wondering if it increased damage or if it all scales so hard off of physical its not worth?
Or, it could be the bow itself. Some bows give you an extra shot as the implicit modifier and then you can get another shot through the suffix/prefix modifier
The third way and probably the real reason… is the fact that he is using the support skill Fork which causes the arrows to split into two after hitting the first enemy
I don't understand, is it that hard for any build videos to include what to use/focus on while leading UP TO THE END GAME BUILD? Characters don't exactly start AT END GAME and there's so few videos that ACTUALLY show the path TOWARDS that end game build you should take.
To anyone who want to play ultra-endgame with t4+ bosses and pinnacles i would honestly recommend to switch from mercenary to other classes - he’s damage and survivability is one of the lowest of all classes
shockburst dps seems really low. this isnt one shotting anything extremely squishy too and you don't need a weapon swap to use voltaic mark, it can be cast while wielding a crossbow... so much misinformation in the vid
They need to buff Mercenary, in general, tbh. It feels like complete ass in endgame. Survivability is just horrible. Such a bad experience. So hard to actually build enough defenses.
This build is pretty good, but you need at least lv40 to pull it off. Without Shockburst rounds it doesn't work, because Galvanic Shards lacks DPS. The main source of DPS for me at low levels is marking enemies that go into shock and exploding them with shockburst. Also, I think the passives that raise your "Attack" (that lead into Emboldened Avatar) only apply to normal bolts, so I'm not sure they're a good pick at lower levels, as you have very little points to spare and you'll shock everything regardless.

did everything in this guide, build is shitter than the gas grenade build, which was much easier too, just spam grenades with the unique head piece. So an absolutel WASTE of time.
Switched from the lame-ass grenade to this and I love it. I'm only lvl 23 and this saying you need to have everything to be viable is wrong. They're probably very bad at this game. They should go back to playing Concord. This game doesn't hold your hand.

Why woildnt you just use the shock arrows its a single button click and it applies free shock, i dont see the point you’re making

about 52 int will make you a glass canon but you'll pop if you are not dodging constantly
Energy shield is gonna get nerfed or armor is gonna be buffed

Man, I‘m done with Lightning, have a Lightning Ranger already and a Monk both at Level 80+, I made a Merc with Fire and with the Merc, you gotta hang in tough, its a grind until you get a better crossbow, which was Level 28 for me, its still a very underwhelming weapon, but 3 times better what I got before, so all you Merc starters, its gonna be a grind
What a perfect opportunity. I was just thinking that I would love to play mercenary for a bit as long as I don’t play grenades. I was seeing too many people using the grenade playable and this rapid fire lightning ammo is more my style.

Been running this build on my Deadeye Shockburst rounds work way better on a Deadeye it basically has twice the damage with the accension passive that gives you an extra projectile per shot.

isn't it is boring to see that every single strongest build is lightning build? wtf? I agreed with them nerfed cold cof builds, they were too much, but from 70% to 4%? basically cof unplayable, frost builds falling off as soon as endgame begins, and I was enjoying playing it in company. I've never even HEARD about fire builds (except warriors bleeding build). I hope they will fix the balance
this is what happens when you want nerfs, they'll nerf it till the point where it's absolute shit and force you to play a different build.
I agree. They need to just learn to nerf things more slowly and with a moderate hand. Instead of nerfing things into the ground, make small adjustments and see how they play out. I can’t understand why they want to TANK the fun and their game constantly.

I want this build
Been playing this for a few days now and I have never been squishier in my life. How is this better than nades? Was playing with nade spam and armour/evade and took the advice here that it was going to top out. Worst decision ever.
Reading other comments, someone suggested taking off the electrocution glove. Right idea and helped a lot but was still lacking for me. Looking through what I could move around, we dont need electrocution build up so took those points out and built to Heavy Ammunition. Now the dmg feels much better. Still too squishy. Looking at why, this build has you take feel no pain and battle hardened but tells you to stop stacking armour. Took those points and moved them down to Spectral ward. Take a chest with as much evasion as possible here cause you are double dipping for Spectral Ward and Bestial Skin.
NOW this feels WAY better. Still not sure its better than nades imo but def not a squishy little ant and have enough shield to actually take a hit and not disintegrate. Im 83 right now and will probably pick up Shadow Dancing and Endless Circuit as I get closer to 90
All Mercenary builds are extremely squishy unfortunately. It's miserable. I regret playing this class. Feel like I wasted 100 hours of my life because the class just deadends in endgame. No survivability.

Erm it’s the actual game that needs to be tuned down. Even without following a build and yoloing, cruel mode is easier..
the crossbow used in the video has no elemental damage buff was wondering if it increased damage or if it all scales so hard off of physical its not worth?
all phy dmg will convert to lightning/fire/cold depending of which skill you playing

I would assume through increasing it’s quality, hold the inspect button when looking at the skill and it show at the bottom of the skill window
Or, it could be the bow itself. Some bows give you an extra shot as the implicit modifier and then you can get another shot through the suffix/prefix modifier
The third way and probably the real reason… is the fact that he is using the support skill Fork which causes the arrows to split into two after hitting the first enemy

I don't understand, is it that hard for any build videos to include what to use/focus on while leading UP TO THE END GAME BUILD? Characters don't exactly start AT END GAME and there's so few videos that ACTUALLY show the path TOWARDS that end game build you should take.

To anyone who want to play ultra-endgame with t4+ bosses and pinnacles i would honestly recommend to switch from mercenary to other classes - he’s damage and survivability is one of the lowest of all classes
Did it. Am on lvl 78. Respeced, changed items. Was able to do T12 easy previously. Now stuggle to kill mobs on T1. No profit

and you don't need a weapon swap to use voltaic mark, it can be cast while wielding a crossbow... so much misinformation in the vid
They need to buff Mercenary, in general, tbh. It feels like complete ass in endgame. Survivability is just horrible. Such a bad experience. So hard to actually build enough defenses.
But your tree is almost one to one is the same as his one, your annoint is the same and almost everything is the same. Isn't it just stealing?

This build is pretty good, but you need at least lv40 to pull it off. Without Shockburst rounds it doesn't work, because Galvanic Shards lacks DPS.
The main source of DPS for me at low levels is marking enemies that go into shock and exploding them with shockburst.
Also, I think the passives that raise your "Attack" (that lead into Emboldened Avatar) only apply to normal bolts, so I'm not sure they're a good pick at lower levels, as you have very little points to spare and you'll shock everything regardless.

Switched from the lame-ass grenade to this and I love it. I'm only lvl 23 and this saying you need to have everything to be viable is wrong. They're probably very bad at this game. They should go back to playing Concord. This game doesn't hold your hand.
