It helps stop wind loading from lifting the beam when the floor is attached. Nails are useless at preventing wind from lifting flooring and roofing in high winds.
It definitely will stop the bean twisting but I’m not sure if they’re intended for that. Once the subfloor is built and everything is connected, the beam should be locked into place and unable to twist
