Hey Ian that plate you can eat off of it. It was cooked in a kiln that coats it in a clear ceramic layer that makes it shiny. The paint won't wear off.
Not all paints and glazes are foodsafe after being put in the kiln. I took a terrible ceramics class in college and there were separate lists of coatings that could be used on items that would be touching food, and ones that couldn't. Plus the plate could have just been coated in fucking varnish for all we know. I definitely wouldn't eat off of a random painted plate mailed to me by my shitty fans if I were him
