I am not sure if someone else has put this in the comments, but I took off the axle nut, the two bottom strut mount bolts and took out the cv axle and it allowed it to come right out. this was on a 2.0L4 2001 626, this video really help give me ideas, thanks, I originally tried getting out through the bottom and gave up.
mAn I thought it be lot easier then that.. I guess not cause you were replacing the alternator too.. But you Sir seemed very professional..:) You work for Honda? I bet..loll
No, it has at least 2 other mounts holding it, if you were really concerned though, you could raise and lower it using a jack with a piece of wood between it and the engine
You don’t have to do any of that to remove the alternator. Just take off cross member and take bolts out of exhaust pipe. It will drop out the bottom. Takes 30 minutes
+JOHN Smith it's not so much getting it wide enough, it's just getting the correct angle of attack. I also mentioned that I had to lube up the CV boot since it was tight against it. It really is a pain though.
The Feesher yeah I've got a gf model here in Australia been trying every which way to get it out but it's like after all you did, mine is still too small a gap? unless the alternator is bigger in min e or there is a difference in the chassis. . it all loos the same to me. I'm about to declare defeat.
The Feesher I can't get the dips tick out like you. it spins but won't pop out. it doesn't seem to be in the way if I push it out of the way. I have loosened both mount bolts and the engine has drop slightly. might jack entire front up instead of drivers side and see if it make a bigger gap.
+JOHN Smith I wish I could help more, I know that it was a huge pain. For me I absolutely had to remove the dipstick to make room, just pulled it straight out.
+Max1mus0 about 6 hours bc I kept trying to complete it by taking off as few parts as possible. If this is followed i cans imagine it taking more than 4
What the fuck is it with you tube. You put the year of the car in and it's shows video on every year but the one you entered. Unbelievable. Every dam tim
Forgive me but you explain nothing of the tension on the alternator. How did you, do you, determine the proper tension? The video and instruction were great, Thank you! I am sorry but I feel you left out some very important final details. i.e. tension...
+Red Mizeack tension is decently straight forward, you don't want so much that it it puts a crazy side load in the bearings and not so loose that it squeals, you pretty want it as loose as possible without sequel. I did this by starting the car and if it squeal shutting it off and tightening it. If it didn't then rev the engine, if it squeals tighten it a bit more, repeat until no squeal
Thank you for a very well explained procedure and it was very appreciated.
Thanks for the info.
Great video detail well done
I was just about to remove exhaust pipe to see if I could get it out that way
This is exactly what I needed to do. Thank You for posting.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video I have this exact same Mazda with the exact same problem I watched your video and I got it done. Thank you
Glad I was able to help out!
Thank you for the detailed video very much. Now I know how much work I’ll have to do just to replace the alternator…. :(
Really well done video. Thanks for sharing!

Good info! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks brotha just got mine done!
Dean Hamilton no problem man! Glad it helped you!
The Feesher Much appreciated!
I need to know how the belt tension is loosened to get it off if I’m just replacing the alternator
mAn I thought it be lot easier then that.. I guess not cause you were replacing the alternator too.. But you Sir seemed very professional..:) You work for Honda? I bet..loll
Thank you, and yes I did work for Honda lol
Why wouldn’t you pull the axle? Looks like that would give ya all the space needed to get the alternator out.
Aww man i thought it would be a simple fix that i could do myself 😔
Do you need anything holding the engine when you lowered it or you can lower it and raise it with just the bolts?
No, it has at least 2 other mounts holding it, if you were really concerned though, you could raise and lower it using a jack with a piece of wood between it and the engine
Can you get to it just taking that cover off and not the wheel?
What happens if when I loosen the engine mound it doesn’t drop
Curious, was is necessary to lower via motor mount even after removing bracket and dip stick??
Honestly not sure, it helped make room and there is already such little room to begin with
You don’t have to do any of that to remove the alternator. Just take off cross member and take bolts out of exhaust pipe. It will drop out the bottom. Takes 30 minutes
Wish you'd post a video of that......
Seems like it could have been a good video if you could see something.
seriously how did you get the gap wide enough to remove the alternator that easy?
+JOHN Smith it's not so much getting it wide enough, it's just getting the correct angle of attack. I also mentioned that I had to lube up the CV boot since it was tight against it. It really is a pain though.

Have you removed the engine mount and oil dipstick?

How long did this take
from start to finish?
+Max1mus0 about 6 hours bc I kept trying to complete it by taking off as few parts as possible. If this is followed i cans imagine it taking more than 4
Yeah, I see you ran into a couple snags. Thanks for posting. Helps a lot of get an idea of what I'm up against.
Can u come work on my 2001 Tribute alternator? My friends spent 5 hours trying to get it out and weren't able to... :(
Did he finally get it out?! The video makes it seem like a short process but it actually took me about that long too
You know you could do this from the top
That's what I was thinking. All you have to do is loosen the idler pulley.
Проще его сверху вытащить

Talk to much bout nothing
You talk too much about nothing
I should've never told my sister in law I'd change her alternator on her 01 millenia.. I hope it's not the same process
