Thanks for the history of VDE. It is nice to hear some reassurance that it's a good program. I've been using it for years, and am now trying to get it working in ubuntu. OK, except that the ctrl-[ doesn't work - can't copy to/from clipboard. I'll next be looking for your linux setup video. Thanks
I'm not sure I agree that modern wordprocessors do desktop publishing. When I got to page 34 in my dissertation I discovered that Word is not actually a wysiwyg; what appears on page 29 is not on that same page when you print it. I'm not dissing Word, I think it's good for certain things, but it does not do desktop publishing. LaTeX would be much better for that in my opinion.
Thanks for the response. I've got it running in Dosbox, also. Not able to copy from the clipboard (VDE uses cliptext.exe, an add-on that gets the WINDOWS clipboard). I'm pretty fond of copying and pasting. Not being able to use the ctrl-] clipboard precludes using my favorite macro - which copies a filename, calls ALT-L & pastes the filename. Do you have the ctrl-[] copy & paste working, as far as being able to copy into VDE input boxes?
I tried vde in dosbox again, and it turns out the ctrl-[] copy works, for opening files. So I guess I'll call that good enough, and if I want to copy and paste to a file, I'll open it with something else. Thanks for the nice tutorial videos, I've got a lot to learn about linux.
"Use of arrow keys or the mouse requires you to remove your hands from the keyboard and slows down your typing." - Why does it matter if typing speed slows down every now and then? What's the rush all the time? Unless you are getting paid by words typed per minute it really doesn't matter how fast you can type. The so-called "Wordstar Diamond" is the lamest excuse I've ever heard I think to hang on to obsolete, outdated software.
I am using it in DOSBox and it runs very well.

VDE is fab, I still use it. I also use TDE in linux; there's no relation, it just happens to be another wordstar clone.
