- Umar Khalid rose to national fame in 2016, when he was branded “anti-national” and charged with sedition by the Indian government for being a threat to national integrity. We spent a day with the civil rights activist and former student leader, against the backdrop of the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests. In this episode of VICE Meets, we spend time with Khalid in New Delhi, a city currently in the middle of one of the biggest social unrests in the country. This is where we explore what it is to be a young, pro-democratic voice in India, the need for secularism in the times of hate crimes and religion-based lynchings, and round it off with his speech at Shaheen Bagh-the 'Tahrir Square of India' that has the longest women-led protest against the Indian government's discriminatory policies on citizenship.

Protest against CAA is different in different part of India, people from mainland protest because it creates inequality based on religion but in northeastern India people protest because they don't want people from other countries to come and settle down in their states.
1. No , it doesn't create inequality based on religion.
2. It's a refugee act .
3. It's not even applicable on north east .

Assameese protest to get rid of all refugees from assam who is there after 1971. Whereas these mainlander people protest to prevent any forceful evacuation of any people from assam. What should a government do. Give assilum to all those suffer religious prosecution and get rid of all economic refugees.

You might be ignorant or ill informed a out facts.
The protests in northeast were funded &backed by PFI and banned communist terrorist organizations.
Also , internet was only blocked in certain areas, so fake news/propaganda doesn't cause more damage
It was cleared by the Home minister in parliament that due to Bengal frontier act and ILP , CAA is not applicable in most states of north east.

The VICE episodes look more theatrical than a Netflix series episodes. An advice to the correspondents and editors of VICE, being an avid follower of your work, to please verify the statements you present in your episodes. A disclaimer at the beginning saying that VICE is not liable to the statements shown on their show is not enough IMO. The facts about CAA are misleading. You'll be surprised if I give you a ground report about Shaheen Bagh, it will compel you to make another episode regarding the same issue but in a different perspective, I'm sure.
P.S. - The Azaadi slogans being used in the protests in Shaheen Bagh are derived from the same slogans which Islamic seperatists used during the 1990 Kashmiri Pandit Exodus.

What India needs now is an identity of being Indian first than from any religious, caste community. India must talk about improving the lives of our people irrespective of religion/caste/language. These things were used by the British to extend their rule and the current governments at all levels keep perpetuating the game of divide and rule. I stay in the affected area of Delhi Riots, criminals settled their agenda of looting shops, arson , and killing innocent. People from both community lost their life, property and faith in each other.
