Great video Ben I've always bought second hand,as I can't justify the expense of flagship poles I have had quite a few second hand poles and all of these have been looked after by the previous owners, I get mine off ebay I picked up a tricast excellence 980 16.6 m pole last year with four top kits, I'm from the South and drove to Wigan to view the pole He wanted a £1000 which was a fantastic deal, I think most anglers do take good care of their poles as this is normally the most expensive item you ever buy , I do all the checks like you do with soft sections etc A year on and I have bought a few ghost kits etc,for the tricast I also have learnt how to fit my own pullers, although I used to pay bobco to fit them, I'm so happy with the pole , it's light and also strong and I got the bargain of a life time. I think I will always buy second hand as the prices of the gurus, mavers, preston , sphere etc are so expensive, Keep the videos coming 👍
Great advice Ben. I bought a second hand TKS 50 years ago and it still performs brilliantly and like you say very solid construction. What I enjoy so much is that I have not spend thousands and the fish I catch have no idea my pole is so old and cheap. But being TKS all other TKS top kits fit.
Thanks Ben all new to me at 57 coming back from school days 40plus yes ago only knew of rods looking fed to using my 1st pole I will need to source some tests if you know any starter kits going? Tia
the reason i am thinking of buying second hand is it has a reputation for sections breaking so if I buy a used one I know the sections are ok the pole in queastion is mtx ultra 3
Pole fishing has caused me more stress than the kids. I'll stick with rod n line fishing far easier . And tying own hooklengths is horrendous.. keep the vids coming fella . Any chance you could do one on spooling a reel I've always struggled .. cheap three quid line goes on a treat. Expensive stuff looks like spaghetti I've tried load's of different ways
Hi Steven. Getting the right pole & having someone to help you when trying it may help you. It is a very accurate way of fishing that can be very advantageous over a rod. This said rod fishing is the true essence of fishing, I have attached a link below with spooling a reel for you. ruclips.net/video/PIpCMMd6LEc/видео.html
@@Angling4U nine attempts this morning trying your way and Andy Mays way . All I can say is .. matrix, diawa and Preston line are rubbish or I'll pay the tackle shop to do it. I'm sticking to £2.99. Cheap line from eBay. It goes on beautiful almost like picasso painted it on.
so this is your main fishing pole in 2023 a Map 201 3g ? I thought you buying a 16 metre this year am I wrong ? Why did you sell your 401/301 G to use this one ?
Great vid Ben always hard to trust anybody these days I've actually got the old SR4 DAIWA 16 pole from new yrs ago has done me proud and will take elastics upto 20 elastic i broke a No5 section last year completely my clumsy fault looked for a section for it but couldn't find one got the section repaired and is as strong But saw a SR5 Pole for sale for £250.00 with 7 top kits which I bought no breaks and all the sections interchange with eachother So have 17 top kits now It is heavy at 16m so I don't use it but manageable at 14.5m I use the SR5 now as its slightly less heavy. I've also changed all the pullers to side pullers with a carbon kit myself I know there are top poles out there and very light too hold but your talking into the thousand price so I think I will keep this What do you think if the Daiwa sr range do you rate them?👍
Sorry for hogging the comments Ben but talking of short kits (Bob Co have them) have you used them for carp to 10lb. Ŵhere I fish there is always a chance of a lump. Do you think the TKS big bore edge short top kit would be a sensible choice for shalla fishing for 5-7lb commons with a 15 hybrid elastic.
Perfect as a friend has asked me what to look for as he’s about to buy a used pole .
Great video Ben
I've always bought second hand,as I can't justify the expense of flagship poles
I have had quite a few second hand poles and all of these have been looked after by the previous owners,

I think most anglers do take good care of their poles as this is normally the most expensive item you ever buy ,
I do all the checks like you do with soft sections etc
A year on and I have bought a few ghost kits etc,for the tricast
I also have learnt how to fit my own pullers, although I used to pay bobco to fit them,
I'm so happy with the pole , it's light and also strong and I got the bargain of a life time.

Keep the videos coming 👍
Thats what's its all about the right deal. If you look there's always ones out there
Great video Ben. Just the sort of information which is so important when buying expensive equipment. Very well done.
Thanks Peter glad I can help

exactly, as long as the gear is upto the job its all good
Thanks Ben all new to me at 57 coming back from school days 40plus yes ago only knew of rods looking fed to using my 1st pole I will need to source some tests if you know any starter kits going? Tia

Great advice for newbies … buying second hand can be a mine field if you don’t know what to look for 👍
Absolutely
Great video ben. You got a bloody good deal there. 👍
the reason i am thinking of buying second hand is it has a reputation for sections breaking so if I buy a used one I know the sections are ok the pole in queastion is mtx ultra 3

so this is your main fishing pole in 2023 a Map 201 3g ? I thought you buying a 16 metre this year am I wrong ? Why did you sell your 401/301 G to use this one ?
you have missed the trick on this one bud check the title only reason i bought it. I'm getting a new 16m in the summer.
Great vid Ben always hard to trust anybody these days I've actually got the old SR4 DAIWA 16 pole from new yrs ago has done me proud and will take elastics upto 20 elastic i broke a No5 section last year completely my clumsy fault looked for a section for it but couldn't find one got the section repaired and is as strong
But saw a SR5 Pole for sale for £250.00 with 7 top kits which I bought no breaks and all the sections interchange with eachother
So have 17 top kits now
