  • With three very different boxes belonging to Tom Scholey (Octbox), Jordan Holloway (Preston Innovations) and Rob Swan (Guru Rive RWS) the boys couldn't agree on who's is actually better. Here's a pitch from each. Which do you think is best? Comment below...

    Octbox all day ( I’ve 2 … naturals & one for commercials ) owned many high end continental boxes & the octbox is the clear winner …. Both are 4 yrs old now & have never had a failure on any part of the system .. so solid & stable … mine are immaculate ( I often get asked if I’ve just bought it !) 10 minutes when u get home to spray & clean the days muck off it ,will keep any box in top condition! How anyone could even think about sitting on those for 6 hrs is beyond me !( I’ll exclude Tom it’s salvageable) 😆

    I have the Octbox 25 which is lighter, I’m 76 now and it suits my needs. I have the motorised version and a swivel seat for better back support. I pole fish 90% of the time and it works for me. Plus Rick at Octbox is always at the end of the phone to sort out any problems or repairs if needed.

  • @STONEWALL148

    The Octbox is the best overall box. Until this season I had been using a Preston Absolute that was great on commercials but a nightmare on rivers when you used the underseat cassette mechanism, so I went back to using a Shakespeare box with octopus fittings for rivers which was okay for transporting but not great for sitting on and not great if you wanted to pole fish. So I replaced it with an Inception SL30 H frame but quickly found the legs slipped badly on it, I found out that the Absolute Legs worked better with the SL30 so that was an extra expense & with the footplate on, it became a heavy box. I was never completely happy with the SL30 and also with the pain of having 2 boxes not least the storage in the house (my partner not being happy), so I went back to having one box and decided to change over completely to an Octbox system, I am using a D25 not the D36. To start with it is the most stable box there is without a doubt it's not light but no box is it depends upon how much you fill it with. The accessories are very industrial, and heavy again especially if you use the 4-wheel transport system and I have a Corsa which is now filled to the brim. I don't think there is any one box system that is perfect I think there are pros and cons with them all.

    I use an octbox and love it pricey but you get what you pay for.
    And as Tom said no trolley required ad the wheels and handles and away you go earlier this year because of health problems I purchased the electric wheel kit again a bit expensive but it just fits the front and rear wheels and handles just attach 👌

      Totally agree but you find the anglers who are sponsored dont care much for the brand they are promoting i know they fish a lot but what is wrong with a few hours a week cleaning your kit. And to be honest i whizzed past the second guys box seeing them hatched casters in his draws he obviously likes flies and if you were their sponser would you be happy seeing your brand in that shit state.

    • @richardburns5925

      @@chrispritchard2081 the Cadence team care about the brand and look after the tackle and Alan Scotthorne, Drennan looks after his tackle. They are all of a certain age though, so whether that has any bearing, I don't know.

    I’ve got the new absolute, like the design, however, having had it for only a few months, the shallow drawer has become jammed. I’ve repeatedly cleaned it but it still makes a horrible scraping noise when you attempt to pull it out. The box is also heavy.

      I agree mate.
      My x3 served me well for 10 years or so.
      It carried a decent size section for reel storage, and other bits and pieces of tackle.
      My replacement, an Absolute, does not provide me with the same versatility as the X3.

    i have the original octbox d36. the only upgrade i would make would be to change the legs to d36 straight through with a length of 600mm with a 25mm top hat to accommodate the side tray . most of the weight in a d36 is in the legs due to the 3 layers of tubing. i can see tom has overcome the weight issue by removing the 25 mm inner post. same a nick speed

  • @neilsemi777
    @neilsemi777 8 месяцев назад

    I have the Preston 36 Absolute. The best box by far is Octbox and the defining factor is this!!!/ It can be set to any height as the box can move up and down the legs to exactly replicate your height. None of the other boxes on the market that I know of have this unique feature.

    My choice from those three would be the Absolute Carbon, if they ever give in and do another batch of them. Have an Inception Station at the moment and apart from the weight, it's perfect for my current needs.
    Can't believe the state that Rob's Guru box is in, needs a bloody good jet-wash does that.

    • @davidsmith2663
      @davidsmith2663 8 месяцев назад

      I reckon a jet wash would disintegrate the Rive l cannot for the life of me see why anyone would buy such a poor quality over priced item. The Rive was the worst box l have ever been unlucky enough to own. I had to stand up to open the side drawer under the flimsy seat. The anodising wore off the units very quickly and the seat split after a week

    Well, the only choice there would be the OCTBOX because the other two look like skips😆 Tom Scholey's is untidy but other two (especially middle one) make me wonder who mucks out after those two?😆Jeez, I thought I was quite untidy? All three are pricey items as well. Joking aside, regarding the filth, I think the OCTBOX is the best overall anyway.

    For their sizes, all these types of boxes, bar possibly the Octbox, don't have much storage space. They are stable and comfortable to sit on and can be adapted to suit pretty well any bank, but are bulky/heavy and expensive. I've looked at a few, including the Rives, but nothing has made me want to change from my old Brilo. I had a better - thicker and firmer - seat cushion made for it and bought a platform for really awkward banks (still cheaper than buying a new box) and it works anywhere.

    • @davidsmith2663
      @davidsmith2663 8 месяцев назад +1

      I wish l still had my Brilo box it was superb apart from the H frame failing after a lot of use. I bought a Fox MSB after that but the H frame wasn't designed right as the legs were too close to the try units and it made adding side tray and accessories difficult. I love the units so l too had a bespoke H frame made added my units and now l consider this as the best box available. Brilo units would fit on a bespoke H frame too. Alan Lockwood made mine .

      @@davidsmith2663Good to hear. They're great, aren't they? I bought another off eBay a few years back so I had a spare frame. I can now combine the different drawer and tray units and have anything from a small canal box to a large multi drawer and tray box.

    l wouldn't want any of those boxes thank you. l prefer a H frame box and mine was made by Alan Lockwood.You can have one made to suit any drawer units you may prefer. It is super strong and light the weight governed by the amount of stuff you put in. There isn't a bit of plastic anywhere to be seen. Mine has a Custom Seatbox seat to my requirements possibly the best seat available. Before l retired l was constantly making stainless steel couplings for mates Octbox when the aluminium ones on the box threads had stripped. Rive boxes are no more and l got rid of mine because l was fed up of standing up to open the side drawer under the seat. Never even considered the Preston as l don't like the huge frame . Sorry guys Alan Lockwood all the way 2nd choice the MAP H lite.
