Hi I'm new to fishing is that rig any good for rivers or just lakes
Can this rig be used on a river , and what hook length would you use?
What pound mainline are you using
Neat little setup, I have a question if I may, could you use this on a slow flowing wide river at all ?
It will work. It's no different in its behaviour on the bottom to the fixed paternoster rig that John Wilson used to recommend. I've used a fixed paternoster using a sliding knot for years and it does work, even with strong lines for barbel.
My only problem is that many commercials and some clubs will ban it because the feeder is not free running on the main line. Even though it might be possible for a fish to pull the hooklink off and away from the feeder, owners and club bailiffs might not see it that way.
Two stops below the hook link will prevent it from sliding too freely
Will a black cap be fine on this set up on the river
This set-up can be used on lakes and rivers, with any style feeder. Regards, Steve.
I find if hooklink is too thin, or soft, it will get more tangles.
Too thick and/or stiff, won't get bites in the first place.....

He never said it was to be fair, but I’m sure if the venue he fished banned fixed rigs then he would use a free running rig. Just saying.
Helicopter rig which is banned everywhere I fish, must be free running.
I’d rather use a twizzked boom .. less chance of tangles in the rotation .
I think both work incredibly well however, this rig is practically impossble to tangle. Regards, Steve.
