The two sonatas of Op. 14 were completed sometime after the 'Pathétique', and published together in 1799. Beethoven later arranged the first of the set for string quartet, and despite its popularity, this was his only such arrangement. Both of the sonatas, in E major and G major respectively, are in three movements without any true slow movement.
The Grammy award-winning pianist Daniel Barenboim has been active on the concert stage since the age of seven when he made his stage debut in his hometown of Buenos Aires. Well known for his work with the East-Western Divan Orchestra, a group of young Arab and Israeli musicians, he is currently the director of the Berlin State Opera, La Scala (Milan) and the Staatskapelle Berlin. Barenboim is described as "one of the few musicians in the world today who could accurately be describe as legendary".

This is such an underrated Sonata IMHO and this is one of my favourite performances of it. Thank you for uploading!
It is a sonata so full of charm and humor!
The 3rd movement the sound just beautiful
I love Barenboims soft touch in this mild, playful, humorous sonata.
agree no one better
Love how he play.... so wonderful
me too
me too
this might be my fav beethoven sonata.
Barenboim's renditions are those of a relaxed man able to concentrate with his full powers. He wears a wedding ring (still married to Jaqueline) and has few cares on his mind. I prefer this complete set of sonatas by the young Barenboim to that of the older man
Peter Norton : Wearing a wedding ring; still married to Jacqui, but with a lot on his mind. Far from the “relaxed man” you imagine. He was very busy being unfaithful to Jacqueline, living with a Russian pianist. Their son, Michael Barenboim, was born in 1985, two years prior to Jacqui’s death. Daniel is a remarkable musician with a remarkably unsavoury reputation which has remained unforgettable. It taints all his work.
@@quaver1239 went through his bio briefly in wiki after reading this comment, now feeling so sorry for Jaqueline. Indeed I dont know for sure of what happened behind the curtain, but her end is so sad and tragic. :((
@@quaver1239 he cheated on her when she was almost dying. And her lover helped to take care of Jacqueline. I think is something wrong but we don't have to judge other person personal life. Because is something difficult to process when somebody close to you died of cancer. Liszt, Chopin, Mozart and Beethoven also had lovers and we don't judge them for that. Also I am not justify Daniel but is his personal life and we don't have to judge
so so so good play
