I believe, that undyne's eye got powerful around the time she got 16 years old, and had to pick up an eye patch. Or she got inspired by her childhood hero, Gerson, the old turtle, who has one eye closed pretty much all the time.

Just saying, when she says "Alphys said humans were determined", we need to note that Chara and Frisk's SOUL colors symbolize determination. The yellow SOUL doesn't, so they may not have been as determined, thus Undyne wouldn't really take notice. She also says it's tradition for any human who gets t that cliff area to be told the history of the Underground. For it to be tradition, it'd need to happen a couple times. Just some food for thought.

Thanks. It's also worthy to note that only two humans made it to the cliff area, and both supposedly died there. Undyne would need to kill them there, since no other monster would be able to. Just a little reinforcement to the theory.

+SwankyBox Well, overall it /is/ awkwardly worded; However, she says "I see now what she means," keyword 'now.' It's very likely that she killed the other humans too quickly for them to show how determined they were, which gives that sentence the meaning of "Oh, now I get it," as in she realizes then.
As to the eye thing... I';ve heard theories that Sans' eye is one of two, the other one being orange and possessed by Papyrus, despite not really being shown. I speculate that they originate from Gaster(Who I think is their father; I can explain this if you'd like) when he was erased. The universe tried to fix itself after a vital person was erased, and that's the result.
The spear in Undyne's eye is probably a result of her innate determination. She shows no signs of realization of Alphys' experiments, as during the neutral run, if you do not kill anyone Undyne mentions in the phone call that Alphys "Seems worried about something," referring to the experiments. She seems completely oblivious to the experiments. I personally think she was born with determination somehow.
Also, unrelated, but an animation used showing Undyne's eye bleeding, I find necessary to bring up that monsters don't really have blood. Sans only bleeds because that's likely ketchup, and he guzzles the stuff. Just thought it was worthy to note.
+Nathan Baker - In the original draft for my Gaster video, I actually did have a section that was about Gaster possibly being the father. The video was very scattered at that point and I ended up removing it because I felt those were things that could ultimately be discussed in the comments, and I was already pushing ten minutes. I think it is definitely possible.
I agree with you on her being born with determination, or that Undyne somehow achieved it innately.
As for Undyne's eye bleeding in the animation, it is purely just an artistic representation and used to add drama to the shot since the resolution of the sprites can be difficult to articulate certain visuals.
I do know that pirates all those years ago used to wear Eye patches as a tactile advantage in battle. why is because below deck was extremely dark, so they would just be able to switch the eye patch so they can see any possible ambushers that were hiding in the cloaks of darkness. so, it was pretty much for a faster eye adjustment that can keep up with their feet.

According to the wiki, it says "Undyne had a spear accident during training and lost her eye. This explains why the light comes out in a spear shape. With that said it is safe to say that what happened to Undyne's Eye is that she lost it during training with Asgore and a spear went through her eye. She then put an eyepatch over her empty eye socket."

I always thought she got the determination herself from sheer willpower. as for the eye, I had assumed it was destroyed by a spear, as the light that comes from it is clearly a spear shape, maybe that is why she had taken up a spear as her weapon of choice?

You're almost right but there's something else. In the Neutral run, if you kill Undyne she starts to deny her death and keep hold with her determination. She goes on and keeps on fighting but you seen start to see that she starts to melt due to her own determination to survive.
This was the same effects that happened to the monster's in the True Lab.
The only difference is that Alphys was there with them so she managed to keep some form of determination for those monsters making them look how they are.
Undyne may have been the only successful monster to be able to sustain her determination due to that eye patch, as for the spear shape shine, I always assumed it was her determination forming a shape of her weapon but that might be a very good theory as well.

Darkness, DARKNESS yeah, though I doubt alphys would experiment on undyne after seeing what happened to the other ones. the player has determination for either killing all enemies in an area (no mercy route) OR for seeing the mouse will maybe get the cheese etc. theres obviously a multitude of routes to get determination, I feel like Undyne is a new route :) there are so many things we can only guess at though
+lightsen Possibly! In some ways it would make sense that she would own up to her greatest defeat by mastering and overcoming it herself. I think that fits her personality very well, so if she was hit with a spear, the greatest way to overcome that "shame" would be to rise above it.

There are two possibilities:
1) She lost it while training with Asgore
2) She just has a spear-shaped light beam coming out of her eye, so she covers it.
@SwankyBox , I believe this theory needs another look after Deltarune. This sheds light of a war between humans and monsters in Undertale. Deltarune is a universe if this war never came to be. I am of a firm belief that Undyne lost her eye in Undertale to this very war. This gives credence as to why Undyne has both eyes in Deltarune as if the war never existed to cause conflict warranting a missing eye.

Justice (yellow soul) might have got annoyed by Undyne's attitude towards him, and knowing Justice made it pretty far, he could have shot Undyne square in the eyeball with his revolver, and her eye had to be amputated.
I believe that Undyne's eye may have been accendently (excuse me spelling) hit with one of her spears when training with Asgore, the reason why I believe that is because usually people start out as not really good at things they first try, Undyne prolly hit her eye with a spear when she was learning to control it.
I think she's wearing it as armor which isn't to farfetched when a stained apron can be armor

I think undyne lost her eye in training with asgore. Perhaps while training undyne to summon spears, she failed and it ended up firing back at her. It might not be brought up in game because they both refuse to say how it happened.
+DEAD Account I think so too. Notice how the spear with Undyne the Undying is pointed towards her eye socket, like it's lodged in there. Heck the traumatic experience might have been the tipping point for her gaining determination within her soul, she might hear Asgore's voice in a similar fashion as the player does upon game overs, but only for her it's whatever Asgore told her while bleeding out from her eye. ...But that's all just my own speculation, take it for what you will.

Undyne is most likely not old enough to have been part of the Human and Monster war. Plus, like was shown in this video, she talks like she only has seen humans in anime and comics.

For the melting part, I think she was experimented on with determination, which is why she likes Alphys so much, because she's the only reason Undyne's alive, because I think she took at least one human soul

Undynes "Dad", Gerson had an eye he had always closed. It seems that Gerson had given his eyepatch to Undyne, because he was her true hero. In deltarune, you might see Undyne after sealing the fountain and all that stuff, as a police, and, not wearing an eyepatch. And, there is a secret place next to the church, which is the graveyard and if you see gerson's grave, it seems that undyne doesnt wear the patch anymore because gerson wasnt her "true hero." Didn't Papyrus say the pirate flag in his bedroom was found by Undyne? Undyne saw pirates (humans weilding swords and stuff that she thinks is cool) wore eyepatches therefore she started wearing an eyepatch just to look cool. Its probably just as simple as that.

When I was making my own AU with my friends, I was in charge of the story and character desine. (Its undertale but everyone is a fox. We like foxes leave us alone-) I would draw Undynes's left ear being toen apart, like from a training gone wrong or somethin. And I would also draw half of her tail. As if half of it was ripped off in a fight.

When sans gets really mad his eye starts to glow yellow and blue and in his fight he mentions his special attack is literally nothing and there’s very little sprites of sans having his blue eyes if you freeze the growing eye into the sprite You can see that his eye grows a bluefor a split second

I’m pretty sure that she’s missing her eye, or it’s damaged beyond use. Not being able to use her left eye would put her at a disadvantage in fights, and she isn’t the type to put herself at a disadvantage just to look cool. I don’t think the Green SOUL would fight her, but the Yellow SOUL could have been the reason. I think it’s probably a training accident or a fight, but there’s a chance that it’s due to an illness or infection. It’s neat speculating on this.

its weird how eyes work in undertale, when asgore atacks with the orange/blue thing his eyes glow, sans eye seems to have gravitation or something, undynes eye shows like a power beam and gaster eyes are damaged, even frisk shows no eyes, and it is weird because chara does show them, thats weird
