You are doing an amazing job !!. My culture shock as a Yoruba lady married to a Greek guy, is to call my 65-year-old sister-in-law by her first name. Initially, I avoided her😃. Next, is seeing grandmothers in bikinis at the beach, which exposes everything, while I struggled to wear mine back then😄.. Lastly, I was shocked that the wife here does not take the husband's family name 😀😃 and children are not supposed to give their parents any money or allowance even in old age because pension, healthcare, etc is stable and well structured 😀😃
You’re quite right. Building credit history is very important in the West. It is tied to many resources one may want to access. For us in the USA, immigrants need to avoid committing crimes. In the USA once you’re a convict it will be difficult for you to be employed or rent a house.In fact certain crimes cannot be expunged. These crimes will follow you through out your stay in the WEST. In buttressing your advice searching for jobs immigrants should always bear in mind that you’re coming to a society where there’s high competition for white collar jobs. My advice to new immigrants who are graduates should grab any legal job to keep life going and search the job market and see if you can pursue short diplomas to add to your certificate to get you a well paid job. Or you can take a 180 degrees change to a new profession that is marketable.
Neze, you're right on the money. I live in the US and see the truth in everything you've stated. One thing I might add is the mentality some people have of thinking they're better than others, especially after achieving something like higher education or wealth. Here, no one cares. Whether you're driving a Lamborghini, Ferrari, or an old, worn-out vehicle, it doesn't matter because we're all equal in the eyes of the law. There’s none of that 'Do you know who I am?' attitude that’s common among some high-minded people from our region. It's a 'first come, first served' system here, and you can't bribe anyone to jump the line. In fact, if you try bribing a police officer, it'll only add to your charges, making it offense number two. Ignorance of the law is no excuse of the law so immigrants know the laws of the land you are in and know your rights too and when in doubts always seek the advice of an attorney!

Neze it is advisable not to pay back what you have used from your credit card same day that you used it. Always make sure your statement for the month is out before you pay what you have used. You can verify this with your financial advisor for clarity.

I came from Nigeria to uk in 1989 till now and I don’t really like Europe long time back till now , but I was thinking of moving back to Nigeria, with what Nigeria is always doing not stable, insecurity as been going on since the independence till now , so I have decided to move to Botswana and buy a house, put up my own business there and just see it as my new Nigeria home to move back to my Africa. Culture or whatever I don’t like Europe and America with Canada at all because of their taxes, discrimination and the tendency to be a financial Slave if you don’t have the right job that can really make you to save for your future above their taxation burdens.

Please Neze I have a question. I don't understand you when you said you use credit to build your credit history. I live in Germany and for over 5 years since I came I have never taken credit. For a fact I do not have a credit card, only a debit card. I am in a rented apartment which of course I submitted my credit score history as one of the requirements and I got almost hundred percent for my score. So why did you sound like if someone has never taken credit, the person can not have a credit score or please just elaborate on that so I can get what you mean. Does it also mean that if I never take credits, I can't purchase a house in the future using mortgage??

It is best for one to build a very good credit history using a Credit Card for up to one year that is if one is not planning to buy or rent a car often, and also rent hotel rooms often. I maybe wrong, but I do believe if one wants to rent either a car or hotel rooms one needs to always have a credit card in possession to do so. A bank line of credit also helps one to build their credit history in the Western World, and it also has a lower interest rate of borrowing compared to a regular credit card. As for these famous Celebrities from Canada such as legendary famous actor Michael J. Fox, comedian/actor Jim Carrey, comedian/actor Dan Aykroyd, comedian/actor Mike Myers, etc. are all based in the United States because of their careers and it is in the United States is where the money is in terms of lucrative financial profits regarding their careers. To simplify it, the United States' market is much bigger and more diverse in also the world of Entertainment. Peace.
