Please make the Part 4 and a Part 5 (Driving or POV video). This series is very inspiring, makes me want to go out and try it myself. Hopefully will once finished with university and now I have a great guide for the conversion. Keep up the great work!
Better than Netflix! Thank you - sharing this much detail and that well organized is one of the most professional and generous(!) things I've seen lately.
Yea, I understand that people are doing these kind of swaps but this work, oh well I thank you for existing! It was absolute pleasure to watch these three parts. And like someone else said in the comments we need to see the car moving :)
I applaud you guys. I really don't like videos with someone talking through the step on how this or that was done ((BUT)) in your videos (1, 2, & 3) on this swap, it was absolutely necessary. I also want to thank you for doing what so many people thought would be cool to see!
I'm in the process of conversion right now and this 3 part video is simply amazing. I'm quite capable mechanic but electronics are my weak side. There is so much good info here on wiring and coding that I feel quite comfortable doing it. Thanks so much!
This was absolutely amazing. A huge kudos to you, and an inspiration for myself. Thanks so much for doing this and posting it!
I have no money or life, and this job seems like a headache, but love to see someone get their hands dirty and engage in a project like this. Hopefully I can get one of these cars someday
I’ve always wanted to do this but couldn’t find enough info to comfortably want to tackle it. After starting this series I’ve already bought a trans, pedal box, and started on the rest of the parts list. Thankful would be an understatement! Wish I could get some pictures of your white boards because it was simplified immensely from what I saw. Thank you thank you thank you!!
Hi Morris, I just erased the white board yesterday... but not before taking a picture. Email me ryan@e39source.com if you'd like that picture. I wish you the best of luck with yours!
@@tylercouture216 Haven’t gotten around to jumping into the 6speed swap on my M6 yet. I’m currently wrapping up a E46 M3 touring conversion and will move onto the M6 once it’s done.
Just finished up the series. Wanted to see what it would take to swap and honestly, the way you've laid it out, it doesn't seem that hard; just time consuming. Thank you so much for documenting this! Will save these videos for a future project. You are awesome and FCPEuro is BOSS lol
Epic effort! I’m in Australia and I am very motivated to do this here since we never got the manual version. I feel like once your smg3 stops working on an e60m5/m6 deserves to be manual swapped! 👌👌👌.
Very helpful! I already converted my pre-LCI E61 from AWD to 2WD and have been considering the S85 repower. This helps me to know I don't *need* a manual donor, tho that makes it easier. I also appreciate the documentation details. Thanks for putting all this together!
I've made it that far! Going to finish up folding clothes and attempt the coding... the part that I've been procrastinating over for the past 2 months. Wish me luck!

Wow. Please do one on an e90 335i or 135i. There are bits and pieces but nothing so clear and complete. This helped me understand the fundamentals and how to consume the information that does exist.

Hell of an undertaking. Would've lost my mind trying to do the coding. Great work an excellent videos. Looking forward to when you upload a video of it on the road. Congrats!
Great series, and great supporting documentation. I am just considering changing my 2007 M5 in Dubai to manual, so this really helps. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for this great video. The way you did it and prepared the videos from beginning to the end was amazing and I really enjoyed watching it. I hope you enjoy the M5 with 6spd manual swap.
Awesome job Ryan, I've been thinking about doing this for a while and after watching these videos I have to say Im seriously considering it. I've been working on and customizing cars most of my life. I appreciate the detailed videos and once again great job.
Ryan, thank you so much for that walkthrough on NCS Expert and Dummy. You've done an amazing job documenting this transmission swap! I feel a lot more confident to start playing around with coding now. Going to do some light coding on a simple E36 before I work my way up to the more complex E6x and E9x cars. Definitely a lot more challenging than working with coding on the VW and Audi cars I'm accustomed to.
Thank you for your kind words! Honestly, the hardest part of coding is getting the software setup and working. The rest takes time, but you’ll get it with enough patience.
E39Source Yes I totally agree. Got the software working well and I was able to code out the passenger seat occupancy mat on the E36 and now the airbag light is off. Yay!
I am very good with changing mechanical parts and doing interior updates and such but the wiring that you mentioned in this video is literally beyond rocket science to me. I would for sure need someone to help me do the wiring and coding.
Amazing video series! When opportunity presents itself while my wallet is thick enough to afford one of these, I'll be extremely grateful for these videos.

I was going to try and tackle this myself when the SMG dies in mine buuuut I think i will send it to you or someone who wants to take that on lol. I would love a comparison video of how it drives now vs SMG
Great journey. Would love to see it drive. If this works it could bring a second life to countless unloved E60 M5s and E63 M6s which are hated for their SMG issues and generall shifting experience that dates these machines tremendously.

I once saw one dude that was reprogramming something and his notebook died, he had to go to BMW and do a complete refresh of the coding and it costed few thousand lol.
Yes! It’s the software installation and setup that is actually the worst part. It took me days to get the software setup and working alone. And ALWAYS have the coding laptop plugged in with a full battery :D
@@E39Source I've must have missed that one. I do still think anyone who's crazy enough to do this should be recognized🤘 is it legal in California now that it's not on its original transmission? In Sweden you can change stuff but you still have to take it to a facility that checks everything and signs of so it can be inspected legally every 14 months.
Hammerbeach I don’t know about this on a technical level, but there’s absolutely no reason why it should be illegal. I would be certified to inspect it, if necessary.
Hammerbeach I take it Sweden has a similar inspection to Germany’s TUV? In America, every state is different, but from what I’ve seen on the east coast, most states will check for rust, windshield cracks and chips, then they look for CEL or other warnings and the smog test. With the exception of Florida, which has no inspection for any vehicles at any point.
