Both brilliant and down to earth. A personal hero of mine. I raised five kids as a single mom. My divorce earned me the scarlet letter D among my former church associates, and called a Welfare Queen by the President Reagan. I had two seven year olds, a five year old, a two year old , and a baby. My former husband paid no child support. Until I could get my feet under myself, I had to resort to Social Services to survive. HUD, Welfare, medical care, and food stamps all made me shameful to the Christian community. For myself, I felt great gratitude that the Federal and State Government made provision for us to survive as a family. Hardly living like a Queen, I might add. Due to danger to my children, ( Katie understands,) I sold some furniture, rented a U Haul trailer, and moved 1,500 miles away. I found work as a SPED aide in the public school system which provided a meager income and a job which gave me the same schedule as my children's. I retired just a few years ago sfter nearly 30 years working with learning disabled students. I loved those kids, and I loved teaching. My own five are now grown with families of their own. Social justice saved us ftom destitution. They are all responsible adults and I am proud of them for weathering the storms of criticisms. All vote Progressive Democrat. Justice matters for this family.

Thank You I was lucky to get child support for my 3 kids who are adults now with college degree's . I myself be came disability with bipolar and haven't been able to hold steady work after turning 65 I lost my disability and now I get the same amount on my social security only I lost my Medicaid so now I can't afford the copays to see my doctors on Medicare . It's a rat race out there. I hope Katie can help everyone in the Senate.

Odd, why the parent who stays with the kids is the one demonised - predominantly, women. Where is the outrage at the spouse/partner who jumped ship and thereby abandoned the kids.

I have such mixed feelings about Katie running for Senate (or POTUS) in 2024 or 2028. Although I think she *will* be a great Senator &/or future president, we *need* her in the House of Representatives!
I would happily vote for her in whichever position she runs but dread the loss of her presence in the House. (Btw... her whiteboard works in the House, but in the Senate or White House? I don't think it is likely to be nearly as appropriate.)
My impression is that it would be great to have her as the first female POTUS, but maybe wait until 2032. In the meantime, stay in the House until 2028, and perhaps be a VP or POTUS candidate in 2028. Now, it seems, she will be running for the Senate seat next year and as such will be vacating her House seat. I worry that seat will flip back to a Republican.

This wonderful woman is an anomaly in Congress. She is so smart, and I love who she is and what she stands for and I love her white board. 😄 She is a working Mom who doesn't, thank God, claim to have any desire for a Kardashian lifestyle. I am in the southern California area where she is running. However, I am slightly torn as to whether I more strongly want Adam Schiff or Katie Porter to win! Both, in my opinion, are good options but Adam has more experience in the House & I would love to see Katie keep making _noises_ and _a significant difference_ in the House of Representatives for several more years before becoming either a Senator or VP or perhaps POTUS.
I admire ALL the things Congresswoman Porter did BEFORE going into politics, instead of people like Trump and Santos who were just grabbing at the money, attention and power.

Katie Porter is a GEM!!! She is, if not already she will be a National Treasure!!! Extremely intelligent, VERY down to earth and PRACTICAL, very much a salt of the earth type of gal! I absolutely love her! But I so do wish she'd get some guidance on her wardrobe choices!!! I'm not fat shaming as I am most definitely overweight. But her choice of dresses only emphasizes this and it pains me to hear people refer to her as a dumpy frumpy housewife type. SHE IS ANYTHING BUT!!! SHE'S A FIRECRACKER!!!
Thanks for your comment😊. IMHO, she seems unconcerned about complying with the traditional rules surrounding how a woman dresses. She is who she is and changing her “look” just isn’t that important to her. I hope someday all us girls are comfortable and confident enough to be totally unbothered by the comments others make about our bodies or clothes. I get what you’re saying, people make judgements about us based on how we look, and they are definitely misjudging Katie Porter! Why are women judged by what they wear? When Ms Porter is talking I don’t even register what she wears.
I used to be concerned the same when I saw lady doctors that seemed not so well put, but when a house is on fire you don’t run to get your lipstick or your Ferragamos, you run for your life. Doctors are worried saving lives, Ms. Porter is known for her intellect and how she delivers for the American people. She seems genuine and stands for the little people. Congress is such a millionaires entitlement club. I hope she doesn’t get lured by the siren songs of the lobbyists or has problems at home that take her away from her job as a representative. I might not agree with her in every way but she seems to have issues close to the “normal” people than to the long winded Congress.

This -- from my Canadian perspective -- was terrific. Plus I'm a quilter and am familiar with the work of Ms. Porter's mother (look it up). BUT Ms. Feinstein had DIED by the time this was posted. The editors should have dealt with this appropriately -- acknowledging this thing was recorded before Senator Feinstein died. Bad form, that.

I’m an elder indigenous recognized tribal member of our ancestral peoples who lived back then and survived the attempted genocide of the natives who lived on these lands, originally put here by our creator from the beginning of times as is told in our origin legends and were impacted by the “immigrants” in 1492. We were warned to look for, if the light skinned peoples came with weapons in hand or if they came in peace with open arms. They did a “Trump” on us and plied and lied to our faces, and “coveted their neighbors belongings” for their own; meaning our continent, our homelands.
And after we taught them to survive, they turned on us thru several hundred years until they were the majority in our land thru our genocide thru disease and massacres, and the constant ‘open border’ immigration, they then showed their TRUE HEART and revealed their weapons, weapons that were stronger than ours, the rest is history, depending on which peoples are doing the telling. WE are still here and watching, seeing and listening, just like our maker, Creator is also watching. I will continue to support your work because you are one of the GOOD, light skinned ones.

Politics has changed in so many ways since I was a girl.
My mother is a naturalized American Citizen and has always reminded me how lucky I am to have been born in the best country on the planet. (Although she would say "where the good Lord dropped me")
Politics always played a big role in our family. Always left leaning and always taught to give where and when you can.
America has a terrible division now. Think like I do, or you're stupid, pray like I do, or you're evil. I think what I worry about the most is the future for my grandchildren and everyone else's grandchildren.
Time goes by, so fast. In such a short amount of time, so much has changed.
