Hi! Been strumming and singing since the 60’s with long gaps between, now at 80+, I cant live without learning to solo, so I sure do love all the uTube video instructor guys! 🎸 They are so generous with their amazing knowledge!
Hey Sally, I'm in the same situation as you, good luck, when I first started there were no video lessons, it was just books or lessons from a classical guitar teacher who thought electric guitars were the work of the devil. :-) we will learn to solo now we have this good lessons.
iIM 55,BEEN PLAYING SINCE i WAS 11 YRS OLD. THIS JUST KICKED A LIGHTBULB ON IN MY HEAD BRO....THANK YOU SO MUCH. I have 6 guitars and just love my instruments, I by crappy ones and put high end components on and fret level...my world just got brighter!!!
Thanks. I’m 51 and just getting time to start and practice guitar. Always wanted to do it but never had time. I don’t know how many videos I have watched regarding CAGED. This was by far the best explanation of the system for a guy with little knowledge. Not only how to do it but why I would want to learn it.
I enjoyed seeing the chord progression exercise using CAGED. It has been a question in my mind and this helped explain a route and options to improvise using CAGED,
You guys explain so well. I already knew CAGED but never harms to hear it again from someone else, you might get different information and tricks, which I did with your video. That’s why I bought my guitar mastery method membership. I’m currently doing the 8 week ultimate guitar skill workshop and I’m happy with my purchase and looking forward to my other lessons 🤘🎸
Thanks. Not new to the CAGED system but still having a hard time really implementing it in practice. This helps, though it'll still take some practice to do it without having to think too hard. And yes I felt slightly called out by the title lol ;)
Over 40? LOL! I'm 71, a fulltime musician for 52 years and never ran across this. That goes to show that you can always learn something new on the guitar. I absolutely love it. Now I get what the country players do when they move double/triple stops up and down the fretboard in a logical way. Very cool, thanks!
Yes! That just to occurred to me too! Lol! I’m 42 and have been playing since I was 16. This system has opened up a new door for me. Thanks for the video!
Me too Brother! I'm 62 playing since I was 5, and I had heard of this caged system but never got around to looking at it. It's like a light bulb switched on in my head the second time around on this video. Thank you for sharing this it has helped me a lot! 🎼🎵🎶🎸🎙
This was an eye opener for me! (And I'm over 70). Thanks Eddie. I've only started playing a couple of months ago, but you guys are making the journey fun.
After practicing barre chords for a month now I realised yesterday what I was actually doing and how I was moving the e shape cause I was thinking what the capo does and I’m like my finger is the capo💡. Then watched a RUclips video on how to play chords in a different key and 💡connected the dots. And now seeing this video wow these last couple days things are making sense. It’s like I wasn’t trying to figure this stuff out but messing around with the guitar plus vids like this stuff just starts to make sense. This is an amazing channel everything is so well explained you guys are amazing!!
i will save this lesson and watch it over as many times as i can in order to grasp it, i am slowly beginning to understand bits of it, but i have a long way to go, great lesson, i have downloaded the PDF thanks
Somewhere in my playing, I sort of figured that sliding the barred E shape across the fret board could be done with other open-style shapes. I just never thought that that would be a desirable thing to do. You've connected so many dots in my head I can't wait to get to my guitar and try this! Thank you!
Wow, I thought the last video I watched a couple months back explained it pretty good, but how you broke it down into relevant cords shapes seriously shined a light on the concept for me. Thank you! you are an excellent teacher! Definitely subbed!
Thank's so much for this been playing over 55 years now 72 so much I have missed by not learning systems such as this but I'm going to play along with this, many thanks again 5 stars for your teaching
I have just had my eyes opened as a rhythm player i know about different chord shapes and as lead player i WAS mediocre until now. I couldnt fathom out how to progress a lead break up the fret board i have just spent the last half hour amazed at the difference your tutorial immediately changed the way i play lead many many thanks.
Don't concentrate on scales so much as on the chords and their arpeggios. Using the CAGED SYSTEM, find which range you want, and a nearby place where all the chords are gathered tight. Compose your lead using the triads of the chords in the progression which are all right there within a 4 or 5 fret span. You will notice more melodic phrases.
Just got my copy and am stoked to go at this. You really did a nice job of making this thing decipherable. I’ve had guitars for nearly three decades, but I never went after any theory. 3 months ago I committed to an hour of focused playing every day. I’ve stuck with it and I’m now listening to my favorite songs and grabbing rhythm and lead sections. I even bought a bass. This CAGED thing has eluded me. It’s been frustration to listen to others explain it, but listening to your explanation flipped the switch. Awesome video! You have a gift for teaching. I’m going to check out your other stuff as I keep going. At 46 I thought I was probably too old and stubborn to learn much, but these three months have been awesome and now it looks even better! Thanks brother!
I love your tutorials! IMO better ( or at least as good as) than in person lessons. I get to rewatch as often as I like, pause, practice, get frustrated, finally get it and feel accomplished. Thank you Eddie!
Very nice progressions. Seems to work all the way up & down neck. I am now going to try it finger style in different tuning's. Tks well done! Vince James (Ajello)
I'll be 40 in January... I learned this last year, great lesson, my friend ✌ This is by far one of the best caged system videos out, you guys always do a great job ❤💪
Be 72 next month, love ❤️ your videos and will get your course as soon as I can. Eddie, you add a big plus to Guitar Mastery. The people notice that. Thanks again.
Another great lesson from Eddie. Clear explanation and demonstration. Just confirms what a great choice GMM membership is for learning guitar. Great instructors and great learning outcomes. 🧢 #VIP #Elite
tell us about using the2nd 3rd 4th strings in the A and the first 3 strings of the F chord (A and F shape) to do the same thing. Alex Lifeson used it alot. took me 40 yrs to get it
I’ve been playing guitar over 40 years. I’m a great rhythm picker & player. Made lots of $$ playing for myself & others on records. But I have NEVER been able to master bar chords, which is KEY in this little trick, as well as others like it. This is a cool little thing to master though. Of course there are TONS of things you CAN do without “barring”, but it’s best if you learn to bar from the beginning so you don’t have to try and break bad habits trying to learn new things later. Making things like this super easy to pick up.
I'm kind of dyslexic or something I think, and in 35 years of playing never could learn to read music. I understood very little of the way it works. Then I kept forgetting the notes and chords on the neck after learning them. But I have never given up trying to learn.
Same here. Over the years I've learned to mix more notes in my chords. All by ear. Never took a class. Found it very confusing and never caught on. It was like trying to read Chinese. I never caught on to shredding. It only sounds like speed to me. I find single notes more artistic sounding and have feeling to them. To me shredding is just to impress OTHER guitarists.
Same with me, this only half makes sense to me., can't seem to piece part of it together. I have been play for about twenty years and have lots of guitars but I have to just play by ear, I can't remember remember songs or scales, I'm okay with a lot of chords but that's about it. But I still have fun and love writing and recording songs.
@@improvewitherror ... There are some well known guitarists that are in the same boat as we are, so I don't feel too bad. I love playing guitar. I have about 100 guitars. All imports including basses and acoustic. I can jam with seasoned bands. But I just never decided to read music. One reason I lost an opportunity playing in Las Vegas. They liked my style. But I had to know how to read music because I'd be going to different bands. I can decipher almost any song fast or get it almost right. All by ear. Even though I'm not in a band, I still find playing guitar therapeutic.
@Mark Seymour ... I understand your viewpoint, and I wish I could shred myself. I admire guys who have mastered it, but as a musician AND a music lover I cannot decipher the musical quality other than the speed. Super shredder music is like trying to listen to what a fast talking auctioneer is saying. Don't get me wrong, shredding has its place in music, but when it's overused, it only sounds like noise. I would say a very high number of the population does not hear shredding music, thus I'm sure they will never make a #1 hit on the charts. For example, I consider Eddie Van Halen a master shredder, but he knew how to make his music very melodic. Santana, on the other side of the coin, is not a shredder, but he's a master of how to bring out the beauty of one notes in melodies. Just sustaining one note makes a song even greater. So what I'm saying is, simpler but melodic playing, resonates more with people that are not musicians. If shredding sounds all over the place to me as a guitarist, I can image what it sound to a regular person. I've been to band auditions where I'd compete against shredders. All I would think was dang! I'm not getting the gig. But I usually would, due to my style. Believe me, I wish I could at least sound like a shredder, but I'm content in just adding to the songs personality.
Thank you so much! I am 70, and have been playing and performing since I was 12. As I watched this video I've decided that an old dog CAN learn new tricks!
Great video. When do you guys think the earliest you should introduce this to a student? Maybe after they can connect pentatonic scales to play the whole fretboard, but before they learn all the modes?
I think for a lot of us, it's easy to finger c-a-g-e- and d, but it gets way harder when you have to make those shapes with your other fingers. That's where it gets hard for us intermediate/beginners, especially when you're already and old man.
Don’t worry about that. These moved up D, C and G shapes are not very useable and I don’t know anyone using them that way. It’s just for understanding. Once you modify those shapes into triads they become very useful.
47 and learned CAGED thanks to my GMM membership…Eddie and Charlie both have amazing courses that help to master CAGED. If you are reading this and are not a member of GMM, you are mad crazy.
