Heard it today on Willies Roadhouse thinking I was the only one who remembered it. So great to hear some of the great songs from the past get another chance on the air!
I feel like Randy Travis got the idea for Diggin’ Up Bones from this song. They both sound similar. Both great songs. I also heard from willie’s roadhouse for the first time some months ago.
Back in the day this was my theme song (least to me) Give it up in 1981 and I still miss it every day. I quit cold and some say just a dry drunk. well been 35 years and I'm hanging in there. One thing though it's so dam depressing knowing when I wake in the am that's the best gonna feel all day. least with a hangover had something to look forward to.
Back in the day I could call this my theme song. My God where have the years gone. I gave up the drink in 81 but like Nat said in this one "It made my sun come up each morning" haven't gone back and never will but I do miss it
Saw Nat in Fort Myers Florida at the opening of a Country Music Dinner Theater in the early eighties. To be honest he was a bit drunk and they were having some trouble keeping him on the bandstand. He was having too much fun mixing with all the people! But when he did go up, he laid it on mighty good. The crowd reacted well to all his songs, and especially this one. RIP, Nat, you were sure a good un!!
Just heard this on Willie Nelson's channel on SiriusXM. Wow, what a sad and honest song. The bounciness of the melody and singing belie the heaviness of the topic.
Heard this song yesterday on Willie’s Roadhouse. This song is impossible to find anywhere on any streaming media. At least we have the Roadhouse to keep these songs going
I MET HIM IN THE 60'S , I WORKED IN A RECORD DEPARTMENT'MAN SE WAS GREAT, I HAVE HIS AUTOGRAPH AND HIS RECORDS, I DON'T LET ANY ONE TOUCH MY RECORDS I HAVE ABOUT 200 ALBUMS AND TWO BANANA BOXES OF 45'S , AND TO ME THERE SOLID GOLD !!!
Thanks for posting this song. I didn't remember who sang it and all my searching before turned up nothing. So I heard it today after years. Thanks again.
I haven't heard this song once but at least 55 times. I deal with shit nobody deals with. And y'all deal with shit I don't. But liquor makes our sun come up

Well Put Mr Castlberry, I wasn't aware of the contentents of Randy Tavis's farts. In that case, I stand corrected "however" I do find the likes of Mr "sweet thang" Nat Stucky and Billy Joe Shaver to possess more original country talent than that of Randy T..
Heard this yesterday on Willie's roadhouse station and was instantly hooked. The beat, the lyrics and the melody of his voice is pure excellence!
I had the exact same experience today. willies roadhouse rules!
Me too!!

This is very weird. I heard it about a year ago on Willie's roadhouse and loved it

Thank you Cosmic Cowboy, one-time DJ at WFMU, for introducing me to this mischievous jewel of a tune.
I played this song as a young dee jay at WFVR in Aurora, Illinois. It was on a blue MCA label. Should have been a bigger hit.

I'll always remember my dad playing this song as a boy he passed last year.

This is why Willie's Roadhouse is the best sirus station... You won't hear this on any any radio channel.

I found this song an it struck such a cord with me, I’ve listened to it 100- 150 times in a 3 day span,
Simply one of the best; extremely nostalgic to me - what an awesome performance!
Best of all this technology.. Get to hear these great real country !!
I've been looking for this song for 20 years on the internet and Ebay. Thank you for posting it. It used to be in the Hotel Jukebox in the 70s.

A favorite of mine since it was released. Means even more to me now, as a recovering alcoholic. God bless you for posting this.

Great voice.
Thank you, Thank you ......................
What a voice. 😮
Great tune! Love ole Nat!
was trying to find this song for a long time. Part of my problems was that I thought it was done by Don Williams.
Thought I'd heard everything by him. A first this. His ballads are tops.
Best song. Wish the album was on CD.

You got it 👍👍 man
Great track from his 1976 Lp Independence. Also love his version of Lyin' Eyes which is also on the album.
I have the vinyl LP...good singer
What great lyrics, well sung
excellente very good artist
Love this one,
My kind of country music tells it like it is always willing to have another one good song
You can hear the similarities with the song "Diggin up Bones" which he co wrote.
You sure can. I never knew he co-wrote "Diggin up Bones".

Good song
My grandma apparently dated him in high school he sounds pretty nice
Good song.
Beat drinking song ever
Can’t get this great song on Spotify. Why???
good
This song reminds me of Ray Milland in the LOST WEEKEND
Randy Travis used the same Rythem as this song.
For his big hit.
Digging Up Bones.
That's probably because Nat co-wrote the song.
He wrote it for Randy

Ya think Randy Travis might have heard this?
Nat was credited as co-writer on "Diggin Up Bones". Don't know if he was in the room, or the other writer just gave him credit for the melody.

It's amazing How the song Diggin Up Bones by Randy Travis must have taken the music from this tune..
He co wrote diggin up bones

Does he have any other songs like this one, sad ........
Anyone know where you can find this song in MP3 format?
even his 'doo-doos sound good
This song has a slight rhythm similar to Randy Travis song "Diggin up bones"
Nat Stuckey, Paul Overstreet, and Al Gore (no not VP Gore) wrote the song. Randy Travis recorded it.

To equate (pop sensation" Randy Travis with such talent as Stuckey is damn near insulting.. No offense J Costanza..
