I seem to be having trouble. when I try to type a text. It doesn't go though. am I doing something wrong?

Probably ;)
Choose text (shitf+a) and you will have the word 'Text'. Press tab and you will get at the end of that word. Backspace will delete it and you can put in the text you want. By pressing enter you will start a new line and by pressing tab again, your new text will be submitted.
Remember to look from the right view since the text is flat as default.
