Hey guys! I'm Alexandra Gater and I show you how to do rental-friendly upgrades and DIY projects on a budget. Today is episode 3 of my series Making Over My Childhood Home and I'm tackling the dining room! This awkward space was empty, lacking function and style. I was excited to decorate it in an eclectic, Scandi-inspired style.

I am OBSESSED with Graham and his talent. I wonder if he realizes how awesome he is 😂
Yesss... Graham needs his own channel. He would have a lot of subscribers
Love Graham! ❤️ want a boyfriend like Graham!!!
Handy and handsome.. rare combo!
RIGHT? lol as I was watching him do the door, I was wondering how can I order something from Graham and get it shipped to Texas lol.
He could have his own show
Man, Graham’s skills are out of this world. The way he used that jigsaw was seamless!! The scalloped door was so well executed
He’s a real mvp! ✨ :)
Also so tall! Just casually drilling into the roof? I could never!
Amazing skill. Would love to have him work in my house!
I love this series . Please don't stop with 4 rooms. The whole house deserves your attention, to be cohesive. Thanks for sharing!
I agree would love to see the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom makeover too
I believe her parents are going to do some renos themselves in the rest of the house
Doing up the kitchen would complete the entire floor. It would also be great to see the whole house done up. 😊
Agreed!
That red and white wrap dress fits Alexandra SOOOO well and is super flattering on her.
I was just about to comment this exactly!!! Such a perfect look for Alexandra, tres chic. also loved Alayna's short white dress as well. Summer is here in North America 🌞
Was going to say the same!
Love the wrap dress on you!
Came here for this! I need that dress! 😊
Graham's little "I'm proud" was so cute and very true! Well done
You know what I admire about this make over channel ? Its how prolific Alexandra and Graham are, they turn out a well edited cheerful video, reaching out to those in need of a little spiffing up and they get the job done. Unlike some of the other RUclips interior guru's who currently perch themselves on their couch and snarkily point their finger to what is momentarily acceptable and what really needs to go with the superiority and snobbery that would make Anna Wintour blush. I may not always appreciate Alexandra's choices but that's beside the point, I respect her hands on practical approach without the elitism.
Omg, you're so right about the snobbery. It's why I appreciate Lone Fox, Macenna and Team AG. Even when they're doing projects that are way beyond ordinary people's skills or budgets, they never seem to be looking down on anyone/anything or ashamed of their past selves.
Totally agree!
Graham is a talented carpenter. He has such vision and skill. A real keeper, and best of all ,he cares!
Graham is an amazing woodworker. He's a keeper! The dining area turned out beautifully!!! You're parents are going to be thrilled when they see their "new home."
Some of us appreciate the shirt fit Graham. 😘
This series is really sweet, you can tell how happy you are to be doing this for your parents. Scalloped pink door is *chef's kiss*. Also, let Graham wear a crop top, we aren't complaining 😉
Clicked the like button when Graham said he's proud 🥺 Oh Graham, is there anything you can't do? You are a talented individual. ♥️
"It smells like the forests of Poland" made me laugh out loud, lol. Totally caught me off guard there 😀
Alexandra - the wood “troughs” you’re mentioning for the table decor is ACTUALLY a bread bowl. Used for rising sourdough and letting dough rest!
I think what she was referring to in home decor is actually called a dough bowl.
And, another word is 'Batea' for these types of wooden carved out dough bowls!
Such a fun makeover for the main floor! So many cool choices and really love that you kept some of their original pieces!!
I wish you would also do the kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom!
I’m over clicking without reading😳 tomorrow..I can not with me🤓🤣🤣🤣🤣❣️
Same 😢😅
I'm sure you are aware of the jewel you have in Graham. He is AMAZING!!!!!
Love her parents and Graham is a treasure. a Canadian treasure. Thank you. Added after finished and watched over- seems finished and as though it is so effortless and relaxed rather than forced. A scalloped barn door petticoat, the roller art, that ceiling fixture and the colors of the chair seats. Smooth.
Alexandra killing me softly in this makeover. Barn doors, pink doors, scallops everywhere?! 🤦🏾♀️
Graham!😍👍
Who else feels so motivated to start enhancing their home after watching on of Alexandra's videos, just what I need on a Saturday morning 🙌💙
This series of making over your childhood home is a delight to watch. Looking forward to the next week's final reveal.
Graham should never doubt his ability to get a project right. he does such amazing work . I like the barn door too
I love the red dress!
Love this series so far! I like the use of color and how bold your family is.
This is fast turning into the BEST team AG makeover. Hats off guys ❤
Another genius re-do. I love EVERYTHING. Including the little snorting piggy insert. Graham continues to amaze. Looking forward to next week-
Omg! Alexandra!! I’m moving work studios and want to make a custom barn-style door that doesn’t look like a barn door! This couldn’t have been better timing… get the keys June 1 ❤️
You made me smile for more than one reason. Of course because you do a lovely make-over of your parents home (your old home), in a style that fit them well. But also because you just make your own choices and don't mind other interior youtubers. Like Nick Lewis commented more than once about barn-doors and text-art and also Home Sense. No matter my own opinion, I am so proud of you that you carefully compose a welcoming home for, in this case, your parents. They will feel the love that you made it with and imo its surprisingly refined, you really know how to layer things and make ik interesting and cohesive at the same time.
Nick also ALWAYS points out that he is expressing his own personal opinions and if you like something he doesn’t then go for it. Bit much to pull him in here as an example somehow of what _not_ to do? If you don’t like his opinions love, don’t watch his videos.
@@rosey_ie I'm sorry but I think you missed my point. There are a lot of youtubers out there about interior decor and they all have their own "niche". With most times a certain overlap. Nick as well as Alexandra have their own "niche" and I applaud them for that. They both will say that everyone has to make their own choices. They both help you think better about the choices you make. And Alexandra makes her own choices as well, as shown in this video, for example. That's what I wanted to point out. I think they even will appreciate each others "niche", despite the differences in taste and opinion.
It's such a great idea that you're using different semicircle motifs within the different rooms to tie everything together (stair runner, light sconces, door, table coasters)
I love how this series is unfolding. Each room is its own vibe, but flow into each other so seamlessly.
Once again, Graham is the Best! You are all fantastic! And this home is Gorgeous!
Love that "not so barn door" completely an original! its all good
Graham is a Magician, and he performs magical memories every single time I see him in his creative zone🤩🧡 I'm so in love with this transformation. Every designer needs a GRAHAM.🥰
Your use of color has truly inspired me Alexandra! I've recently created a breakfast bar between my kitchen and livingroom. I have multi colored Fiesta place settings and now I feel confident to stain the butcherblock wood to pull it all together!! Next best thing to having you come down to NJ from Toronto❤ Love it!! Joan
You have inspired me because I have that same vintage dresser. It was my grandmother’s and I am 77, so it is probably pretty old. It was my dresser when I was a kid but it was painted with a lot of layers of paint. In the 70s I stripped it and refinished it. I am moving some time soon I hope and I planned on using it in my bedroom and another smaller vintage dresser in the dining room. I have now decided to switch that around because I like the ways yours looks and will function in the dining room. Thanks!
The room looks fantastic. So well done and Graham has made yet another amazing piece of furniture. Give that man a 🏅 . Well, well done team AG!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏. Can’t wait to see the last episode and your parents reaction!!!!
Graham is a treasure❤️😄
The room turned out amazing, the barn door was stunning😍 the table decorating and just the entire space together wow
I just love how you make homes feels as a truly home not a architecture catalogue ❤️❤️❤️ btw Graham is amazing, almost a super hero hahah
Graham is the most valuable player on the team. Excellent job!
Absolutely loving this series. Your design skills are beyond amazing and Graham is a god send to your team, even with the crop top 😂 and I always look forward to all your videos. Much love to you all from the UK x
I think we could all agree that Graham is the star of the show :3
Everyone needs a Graham around the house. He's so talented
Graham should be proud, he is fricking amazing!
Love the dining room table set up and all the cute dishes! I'd recommend painting all of the black hardware for the door white to blend in with the ceiling and wall. It just calls too much attention to itself and looks in conflict with the black stair railing.
I have to disagree. I think it ties in well with the stair railing !!
It does clash. Also b/c it's the only harsh black along that wall, it looks like it's floating and looks awkward with the angle of the stairs. I would paint it white too
I love how bright and airy the house looks now. The decorations and the wall colors make a world of difference. Great job as always. Can’t wait to see how your parents react next week.
Stunning transformation! I love how you were able to incorporate so many different colours and still make them all match! 😍 I'm curious to know how you dealt with the thermostat that was on the wall behind the barn door 🤔
Wow. The barn door is genius. Graham is amazing and so knowledgeable. Love all your other accents and design.
This has been so cool to watch, can’t wait till the final makeover episode & reveal. Wish I could do something with my parents house. Love watching you and Graham working together, both so creative & funny. His shirt situation was an added bonus..LOL.
I love that AG is not afraid to use colours and I admire how every time she is able to pull off the design incorporating every colour possible. That's why her design looks so fresh and not stark.
Graham really elevates these projects! What a credit to the team!
I am not sure which is funnier, Graham's shirt or you 2 smelling the Forests of Poland! 😂😂😂😂
Ok the zip tie + thumbtack hack for scallops, and the painted drop cloth canvas is GENIUS
GOOD AFTERNOON ALEXANDRA!!! I discovered you just a few weeks ago. I have subscribed and I have to say...I am your newest fan. Currently watching your makeover for your parents. You have so many great ideas I started a notebook. I am a retired nurse and I love my home. I just turned 69 and need an outlet for my energy. I have many beautiful things but could use a refresh. I am so stoked with all your ideas. I have learned so much from you. Reuse, repurpose, paint and rearrange the furniture. (i've always loved that. lol) I must confess. I just thrifted a gorgeous solid walnut plant stand. ($15 US) It just needs some love. Retirement and I were not friends. You dear woman have turned a page in my life's book., Cathy Miller Pennsylvania USA love, love, love you
This is SO impressive 🤩. The space looks huge now! I like how all the colors tie together - pink on the doors, rug and napkins, brown/wood in the dining & living room furniture, the curtain treatments.
The light! Omg. Gorgeous.
I would love to see graham read the comments because I think he’d blush. He’s so humble! 😅
I love placing a dresser in the living space. We use one for our television and having the storage in the main living area is soooo convenient. We also prefer the aesthetic over an entertainment center. Can’t wait to see your mom’s reaction!
I like that too, and I wasn't sure about the canvas at first, being an artist - I sell paintings and this is just paint rolled on - but it turned out nice. I think the gingham lamp clashes with it though, I'd love to have seen a modern lamp there.
I'm loving these redos on your parent's house. I can't wait til next weekend to see it
Glorious! I wish someone counted each time Graham's name was mentioned, cause it was mentioned a lot. Great job everyone! Such a light and inviting space. And there is a lovely, unobtrusive continuation of scallops, squiggles and flowers.
Love all the AG Team work I've seen, but gotta say, I'm glad I'm not the only one developing a bit of a celeb crush on Graham...Those skills and that smile!
Every space matches so nice with the others. Feels really like home, especially because you are able to use things your parents already own. Perfect!
Dang!!!! I wish they did the kitchen 😂😂😂💗💗💗
Would LOVE to see you do the kitchen and master bedroom for your parents too!
That little dresser on the wall...I have been looking for that exact piece for so long!! I love it. I love the whole space!! It looks light, airy, fresh, and welcoming!
The gingham shade on the lamp compliments the wood dresser and table soooooo well! I love the dresser in the space and can see fresh flowers in a pretty vase on it every day.
So glad you were able to use a table and dresser your folks already had. Nothing like solid wood vintage pieces.
You continue to outdo yourself and You and Graham are a dynamic designing duo.
Oh wow!!!!!!! that looks like a totally different house on the inside. The young adults are no longer living in the space. It’s sophisticated adults now absolutely gorgeous AG you did a good job!
Nicely done Alexandra, Graham & Team AJ!
Graham!!!!!!! I mean...Graham! Got it?! He makes everything and even more than everything!
Wow! You totally hit a Home run!!! ❤ all colors!
The dining room light pulls it all together!
Can’t wait for kitchen makeover!
Your team being playful makes the make over!Fun!🥳🎉🥳🎉🥳🎉🥳
I say make over every room!!! I would love to see more episodes!! I'm disappointed the light over the table isn't hard wired. You can never have enough light. Looks darling as ever as always!! Can wait to see what ur parents think!!
shout out to james's references and memes, i'm not sure if all of your viewers understand them but the girls who get it, get it
Every part of the make over is so connected and separated at the same time it's beautiful to see
Okay, fan opinion here. You have always had THE BEST reveals on RUclips -- slow and delicious, allowing us to fully savor all of the beautiful touches you incorporate into every designs. I used to over say how great your reveals were in the comments; I sounded like a broke record. For the last two or three videos, the reveals have flown by too quickly. The frames change before I can finish really enjoying your creations. Please go back to slower reveal. They were the best on You Tube, for real. 😊
Omg!!! I cannot wait until next weekend to see your parents expression and emotions, love it all!!
I love the colours you chose. The living and dining rooms are bright, cosy & inviting.
Beautiful. Are you going to also decorate the kitchen? Since the living room and dining room flows into the kitchen.
The pink napkins with the pink doors, LOVE it. Everything looks so so good 😍
Painting the space white was a game changer!
I’ve said this before but now I think this entire space is now my favorite you’ve done🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️👏🏽
round of applause to Graham! So talented and resourceful! *love*
Graham is a superstar
Your sister and her partner are never gonna want to leave the house now. Also, Alexandra I can’t believe you didn’t change the knobs on the dresser. 😄
Graham needs a how to series! I’d watch it all day!! His skill is amazing! He def gives dimension to the channel!
Those floral shaped coasters match the scallop on the bottom of the barn door. Cute. The wavy blue bowls too.
Graham is a treasure and so skilled. I love the door, personally I would have made the handle black.
Graham is truly an artist!!
The room feels 10x bigger on camera I can’t imagine how open and airy it feels in person.
I think this is my favorite room you’ve designed out of all your videos!! Loooving the pops of color and how well they all work together. Literally the only thing I would have done differently is swapping out the knobs on the pseudo-bar cart. But I love the whole space!!
What strikes me is the maturity of the design, even with pink doors. They make sense with the larger design and aren't pink just to be pink. It would make me happy to live in this space.
You really knocked it out of the park with this one ❤
Love the gingham, DIY art, dresser moment. That part felt really interesting. 🤍
The spaces are looking wonderful! Open, airy, friendly, elegant. I want to be there! Looking forward to episode 4.
The space is so cohesive now! It flows! Great job you guys🎉❤
Love it ! So open and spacious 👏🏻👏🏻The table , the door , the artwork… it’s just lovely 😍
Stunning! The dining room turned out so beautifully! Simple but elegant at the same time. I Iove the pops of color on the dining room chairs and the table. And can we talk about the door that Graham created? He is a master craftsman! Absolutely love what you've done so far! Please consider sprucing up the kitchen and bathroom to complete the whole house with a cohesive look. Can't wait till next week!
There is only ONE word for what you have done... STUNNING!
Alexandra, you are amazing! And how wonderful to have Graham making your vision happen!
The house is looking so great. I’m sure your parents have an idea what to expect but I think it’s all going to blow their minds anyway. Can’t wait to see the final episode. I hate that we have to wait a week.
So great! I absolutely love what you've done with the entire space.
