Funny how often in Greek mythology, the very act of trying to stop a prophecy makes it come true.
"One often meets his destiny on the road he tries to avoid it" - master oogway
Yup. Plays on arrogance of the gods.😏
The same thing happens in Norse mythology.
Not just in Greek and Norse mythology.
Its a pretty solid story trope.
The more you deny your fate, the more you actually seal it. You know what I mean?
It happens......ANYWHERE! In movies, series, cartoons, games, mythologys, ANYWHERE!
The grave digger dug three graves, One for Kratos's mother, one for Kratos's brother Demos and a third grave for Kratos. That's what he meant when he said their is only one left just to let you know.
Yep and the gravedigger is theorised to be Zeus. Kinda makes sense why we don't see the gravedigger again since Zeus just got fed up with it. Dude brought it all upon himself.
@@wyattchandler6359 it's not theorized it's a fact he is Zeus. In god of war chains of Olympus in the mini games you can play as the grave digger once you enter the game as him he turns into Zeus
@@geo3282 oh yeah? I did not know that. Good to know at least.
@@geo3282 it's ghost of Sparta, not chains of Olympus
@@jhevgainz2307 yea
The only thing that sucks about these Kratos story reactions, is the fact that I gotta wait until next Monday, to see the next part! Love watching your reactions
Thanks! Glad you are enjoying the reactions for our Kratos journey 🤗
As a person who played only the console games. The story with his brother was only featured in the handheld game handheld game on the PSP. I think that enriched and explained so much of the rage and fury that kratos half for the God. The sad thing is this is all based Around God's taking advantage and not taking accountability for their Actions. Even With zeus he had all the time in the world to accept his son And assisted him at any point but all he looks for is submission from him.
In PS3 you can play in GoW game in PSP.
This is why I hope they revisit Kratos' past in Ragnarok. Everybody always gets on the man's case for getting lost in his anger and causing all that destruction, but, let's face it, the gods had it coming. The sheer amount of manipulation and destruction (not to mention lying) that they are guilty of (Deimos was kidnapped long before Pandora's Box was opened so that cannot be used as an excuse). I'm not necessarily justifying what Kratos did, but I do understand why he did it. I mean Zeus' solution for one of his sons acting out is to have him murdered. Both times. Even in the new series, Kratos was just minding his own business when a certain character just casually saunters up to his house and starts antagonizing him.
@@archiwistykaumk5182 really I never did
@@TheXIIIthLord You might want to leave this out because they're not that far that far but I get what you mean
@@mackeym10 Oh! Right! That's a good point! I'll edit my comment a bit just to be on the safe side.
Ghost of sparta was the most emotional game. The story, the music. Thanks for the reaction😊
☺️ our pleasure
Curious Fact: The sentence that the gravedigger completes when Deimos is buried is the one that Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, says quoting the Bhagavad-gītā: "Now I have become death, the destroyer of worlds"
😯
At 30:01, Zeus says one of the best quotes ever. Also, Kratos says this too later on
"It is done. You have let go of that which has made you mortal..."
Let go? LET GO! Everything that Kratos ever loved was ripped from his hands, and the gods call it a "reward". They deserved what is coming.
Thanatos was right with ”the beggining of the end” since after Thanatos boos fight and Deimos death, god of war 2 starts, Then the end of the gods in god of war 3 :)
Fun fact: the grave digger is actually Zeus, as one of his disguises, just watching all happen for Kratos, his own son.
You know, if the writers are at all clever, they could retcon the grave digger into being Odin (spying on his rivals/potential threats) and tie the whole story together a lot better.
@@TheXIIIthLord dang that'd be a total mindbreak.
@@TheXIIIthLord nehh I guess but not really, think it would break little of the feel and ruin Zeus character more and other stuff in previous god of war games.
Personally I don’t like retcons like that since you just try to make it seem as if Odin is the big mastermind but really nothing is achieved by doing that only confusion.
It is like what wow did with shadowlands dumb story of the Jailor making him the mastermind of the mastermind to the grand plan of the other grand plan to another grand plan, which just gets ridiculous, as they retcon and retcon just to look like as if they planned everything from start but we players are not that stupid.
and that Sylvanas gets ruined as all her choices seem now to have been to the jailor and not herself as an intresting character.
Considering why would Odin call Kratos his son.
Why would Odin try to stop Kratos from saving his brother.
Why would Odin try desperatly to protect Olympus.
Then also why saving Kratos from his death to defeat Ares which was ordered by Zeus.
You might think it makes Odin more interesting and cool but results in removing what makes Zeus interesting and mysterious, with also his desperation, fear showing the corruption of his evil.
@@TheRealRealMClovin I see your point, and, in general, I agree. Personally, I despise retcons (along with reinterpretations, reimaginings, and all the other "re" words) since they often tend to break the illusion of a well planned out storyline (if not outright destroy what came before), and are thus very dangerous when left in the hands of lazy, uncreative writers who use them as a crutch to prop up their terrible writing. THat being said, there are times when a retcon, done in the right way, can help enhance an unplanned story. The main reason I like the idea of the retcon for the grave digger is that I feel like there should be more ties between the original series and the new one, like that bit with Athena when Kratos goes to retrieve his blades.
Don't get me wrong, I love the original trilogy, especially God of War III, but there were quite a few plot holes and retcons strewn throughout the older games, mostly as a result of a constantly shifting writing/directing/creative team.
For example, it was strongly hinted in God of War 2 that the female narrator of Kratos' story was in fact Gaia herself, but this was altered in the third game (when she was given a different voice actress), possibly because the creative team had changed their minds. Now, if memory serves me (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), the grave digger was never stated definitively to be Zeus in the games themselves, which means that he is, essentially, an abandoned character. A set up with no payoff. So, if the writers chose to revisit him, they could do so in a way that not only rewards long time fans, but helps integrate the two sagas of Kratos' life much closer together.
Now, I'm not saying that they have to make all the events of the original trilogy retroactively a part of Odin's plan, thus making him the big bad of the franchise (I think ghost Athena would be a better fit for that role), but they could use this as a way of showing that Odin knows Kratos, that he was spying on him and his family. It could be tied back to the prophecy of Ragnarok and to Odin's paranoia that both Freya and Mimir mentioned in the previous game. Maybe he was trying to get Kratos killed through indirect involvement, or maybe he was watching over him, guiding him for his own purposes? Maybe he needs Kratos to avert Ragnarok rather than cause it?
Look, at the end of the day, these are just ideas presented by one long-time fan. Ideas that, if used correctly could help create the illusion of long-term story planning, which (in my experience) tends to make for better stories.
@@TheXIIIthLord jesus you barely no anything about god of war😐
The PSP was friggin amazing. I still look at those GOW titles for it with sheer awe. What an achievement. Great video. 💜
It’s amazing the story that came out of this game. Look forward to playing vid of war 4 😅
12:57 The thing about Kratos is that compared to mortals, Kratos has almost limitless stamina and endurance as a Demigod.
Basically saying you can almost never tucker this angry lump of godlike muscle out, unless you deal an insane amount of punishment to Kratos, like what Deimos did. But if you’re going to fight Kratos and cause him serious damage, all I can say to you is...
Good luck doing that!
bruh he moves faster than light which is seen by kratos in gow 3 reacting to helios' light which is scaled to light the whole underworld which is known to be infinite
Yeah, because he'll just *ANGER* himself back to life.
So even if you do kill him he'll just come back
@@thelordofthelostbraincells He is Greek Doom Slayer.
Hell yeah, Bethany! Athena has always been my favorite Greek Goddess too. When I went to Greece for vacation I was on a mission to find a ring with Athena's face on it. Coincidently enough, I eventually found it in the city of Rhodes, in a shop at the harbor that the Colossus once stood. In the city of Athens the sun shone differently there. It had a bronze tint to it like a Spartan's shield, it was so cool.
Nice find! 😀 and clearly you have great taste ☺️😇
All im gonna say is, remember the "The Cycle Ends Here" line from zeus to kratos when he kills him
✅🙂
i mean, it's basic greek mythology. zeus overthrew his father cronus, cronus overthrew his father uranus before that. then zeus stopped trying to woo thetis because of a prophecy that her son would outdo his father. that alone shows how much he feared his father's fate, generally if someone was a woman zeus wanted to sleep with her.
@@meewec2091 huh
Let me tell you a fun fact Athena is the schemer who ran the whole story behind the scenes while acting to be a kind god and she already knew kratos was the marked warrior from the starting of the story
I mean if the Goddess of Wisdom and War couldn't figure that out.. I'd be pretty disappointed.
@@chainedscythe2000 and another fact is that her character is worse than Zeus or Ares as they directly told kratos they wanted him to die but Athena manipulates him by changing kratos sadness into anger with green energy after his brothers death

This is actually a reference to the nuclear scientist Robert Oppenheimer who had aided in the science that led to the invention of the nuclear atomic bomb. After its creation he lamented that his work led to a tool of such destruction and regretted his work quoting the hindu text of the Bhagavad-Gita "Now I am become death, destroyer of worlds"

Zeus
Part of Zeus flicking his wrist like that was the sword. The blade of Olympus is stupid strong
😎👍😯
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Zeus in his early days wiped out all the Titans army with a single swing. Some titans like Cronos created time upon their birth. Cronos also defeated Uranus in a battle of cosmic proportions. Zeus is so powerful that he could murder the next two most powerful gods Poseidon and Hades in seconds if he so wished.
13:10the way he gets up being injured gives me goosebumps
One of the things I noticed wasn't in this story section was the part where Kratos meets Thera in Ghost of Sparta. In that section of gameplay Kratos gets the Thera's Bane ability which wreathes his blades in flame and makes them glow red, and serves as this games Rage ability. That is what he activates when he is shredding Thanatos's health bar. It was super awesome and immensely satisfying to see Kratos rage like he never has before.
Thanks for filling in the gaps this misses 🙂

Zeus wiped out the spartan army with the shockwave power, He is not using his wrist, That shockwave is came from the Blade of olympus.Amazing reaction video waiting for the next part 4.
😎👍✅ thanks for clearing that up
He said with the flick of his wrist, they arent bilnd or dumb. They seen him obviously use the sword, "with the flick of the wrist" was obviously a metaphor for easily killing the army and you couldn't comprehend that for whatever reason. What person with sense would think that he killed the army with power that come from his wrist
Very few reaction channels capture the magic you guys do, whether it's the genuine reactions, to pure intrigue, to overall the simplicity, it all melds together so well, keep up the amazing work DnD!
Also since you're doing God of War, have you guys considered reacting to Ragnarok? The gods are indeed flawed, selfish people with superpowers and superegos in the myths. Ares and Hades are the nicest guys among the gods, but ironically get depicted as the bad guys in modern media. What makes GoW's worldbuilding so fascinating, is how the gods are represented by highlighting their known flaws beyond their merits.

You don’t have to wait. You can see it here ruclips.net/video/fadfEfP9rxc/видео.html it doesn’t have all cutscenes but all deaths which is most of the cutscenes 😝 we just need to watch the end of God of War 3. What happens after Kratos kills Zeus 😅
I just like how the in game graphics look so bad but in the cinematic scenes it looks like it’s a shot from a very good perspective ngl.
Funny thing about Zeus wiping out Kratos's army. He used the power of the sword of Olympus, which Kratos filled with almost the entirety of his own godhood, to do it. Basically, Zeus used KRATOS'S own power to massacre Kratos' people as a finale fuck you to Kratos. And the cycle ending? That is referring to the fact that Kratos is Zeus's son. Zeus's chopped his own dad into a million pieces and scattered them across Tartarus, just so he could steal his father's throne. Now Zeus's biggest fear is that one of his own kids will try to repeat his actions. When you live in a society of immortals, the only upward mobility in the social structure is going to come through some rather bloody politics.
What I find hilarious is that Zeus thought his son was coming after his seat the DUMBA**
18:44 that was smooth
Kratos in his youth fought numerous battles and suffered many wounds all of them healed and left no marks except the wound from the blades of Olympus. the scar is still visible even in the gow 4
I’m so glad u guys are the type of RUclipsrs that like looking at the story unlike most people go in playing god of war 4 clueless and it ruins the magic and fun of the game
Story is everything. Sometimes we can appreciate just jumping into a game without knowing the full story. But we listen to community when they tell us a game is an experience. We want as full of the experience as possible 🙂
GOW: Ghost Of Sparta
3:57: Two minor cutscenes were skipped. The first was the ship Kratos was on being dragged to the shore and facing the Scylla afterwards. The second was coming across the gateway to the realm of the god of death.
8:06: I don't believe it, 9 cutscenes were skipped. The first was the Scylla ambushing Kratos and taking him to the volcano where it was supposedly supplying power to Atlantis. The 2nd was coming across the Titan, Thera asking Kratos to release her, but Kratos takes her power instead. The 3rd was climbing out of the volcano that held Thera and making it back to Atlantis with the narrator explaining the battle with Scylla caused the foundation of Atlantis to crumble, sinking it into the sea with Kratos caring less. The 4th was Kratos coming across Athena's statue demanding answers. She doesn't speak at first, but when she does, it's with the usual jargon that Kratos heard before so much, he wound up destroying the statue. The 5th was coming across Spartan soldiers that had been recently massacred with one survivor giving a message to Kratos about a message from the daughter of death. The 6th was meeting the Gravedigger again from the first GOW. It went like this: GD: What fools, what fools and you, the biggest fool of all, Kratos. The ghost of Sparta, the slayer of Ares and now, the destroyer of Atlantis. You should take heed, Spartan. The destruction of Poseidon's kingdom will not bode well on Olympus.
Kratos: I care little for the gods.
GD: And yet, you walk beside them?
Kratos: I did not ask for the throne of Ares.
GD: You were given the honor to walk among the gods and yet, you spit on it like it was dirt.
Kratos: The gods can keep their honor. I only wish to find my brother.
GD: Ah yes, the other one. Try if you must, but you will not succeed. You will never find him and in the wake of your destruction, you have sunk the only path to your salvation. This is all that awaits you at the end of your journey.
Kratos: Not before I find Deimos.
GD: By wise, my son and turn back now. Do not seek the domain of death.
The 7th was another flashback with Kratos and his brother as kids training until their town was attacked. The 8th was coming across the daughter of death interrogating a Spartan who claims he doesn't know where Kratos is, then gets stabbed and left to die. The 9th was coming to that soldier as he told Kratos that he didn't tell her nothing with pride and Kratos gives him a eulogy of sorts as he dies.
9:10: Whoever edited this video of God Of War you two are watching, I friggin hate him. This guy has skipped so much, I'll have to go through them, short and sweet. The first was Kratos bringing down the daughter down to the earth, then kills her finally. The second is another flashback that highlights the attack on Sparta by the gods Ares and Athena who were warned by a prophecy that the downfall of Olympus was to be brought by a a marked mortal whom they believed to be Deimos. Kratos tried to save Deimos, but was thwarted by Ares and was left with a mark over his right eye. As they took Deimos away, Athena looks back Kratos and says "forgive me", then cuts to Kratos saying he'll find him. The 3rd was Kratos coming to the temple of Ares where the soldiers are redecorating the place. The 4th was another monologue by the narrator on Ares. The 5th is inside the temple where Kratos must battle his inner childhood self that's a manifestation of his guilt. When it's over, he collects another item that will take him to Thanatos, which means he'll have to go back to Atlantis. The 6th is Kratos getting new weapons from his devout servant. The 7th is a message from Thanatos warning him not to go to his realm which Kratos blatantly ignores. The 8th has a surprise cameo from King Midas. Kratos goes to him to throw him into a lava river to solidify it to cross it. The 9th has Kratos boarding a ship that'll take him down into the maelstrom where Atlantis is sinking into. The 10th has Kratos being swung further down until he reaches a part of the city where the statue of Poseidon comes to life. He pretty much condemns Kratos for what he did to Atlantis.
10:34: Another cutscene before this has Kratos reaching the realm of death with the narrator going more into it with details.
*11:49**: there's this trophy I remember winning after beating this fight. It was called Be a Good Big Brother and the reason you get this trophy simply says Let Deimos Win.*
Now I'm really excited for your GOW4 and DMC5 streams. CAN'T WAIT!

You laugh at "get over here", but when Kratos was in MK9, he was literally banned from tourneys for being broken as hell.

I wish thisguy showed the Kraken fight it wasn't a long fight but was so epic.
They and Zeus mistook Diemos as the marked warrior when Kratos was the true marked warrior in prophecy, which Will be their mistake to their doom as we know :) Cuz when they took Kratos brother the hate of the gods began.
This just shows Zeus have always been a bastard, as he imprisoned and tortured his own son Deimos just over a prophecy.
Yeah Deimos is Also son of Zeus :)
Then he Also put a curse on Kratos mother that if she revealed Zeus was Kratos father, she would turn into a monster. Which resulted in Kratos being forced kill to another family member, his mother, because of the gods.

The grave digger is actually Zeus.
Zeus came and said, "Kratos, you are uninvited to the orgy."
What is interesting about Zeus is that he has been watching Kratos for quite a bit of the story, you just don't realise it. These videos don't show but Zeus is the Gravedigger in God of War 1 and Ghost of Sparta. In the beginning of 1, at a temple of Zeus you meet the Gravedigger digging a grave for "someone who will need it". Nothing strange there, yet after Kratos gets killed the first time, he climbs his way out of the underworld and his exit is that same grave, gasp, I know. As shown in Ghost of Sparta his Gravedigger form appears in the realm of Death to give Kratos a convenient grave to bury Deimos in, and tell Kratos he basically took Thantos' job as he had done Ares. "Death, the destroyer of worlds" is apt for Kratos.
I love all the mythology but I have to say Greek and Egypt is the one's I looked up the most. I like all the Gods / Goddess in a way but I was always into Artemis and Athena

😏😇😈
God, I hate that they leave out the more hard hitting moments in these games. 1) Illusion young Kratos beating Kratos for letting them take Deimos away. 2) Kratos retrieving the Spartan spear and shield. 3) the trek through Atlantis. The grave digger is the same one that helped you escape Hades in the first game and is heavily implied to be Zeus. Since the grave digger carries Callisto (Kratos' mom) to a grave by her son.
Yeah it was disappointing to hear from part 2 and now 3 how much had been left out. We probably should’ve just stuck with a glp run for each game 🤔
Kratos sounds so different now
Zeus was the gravedigger and the reason why he said only one left was because Kratos and his family were a threat to Olympus because of the prophecy of the marked warrior destroying Olympus.
I once heard someone describe Aphrodite as starting wars and ruining lives just to make her OTP's real.
After playing some of the games and watching the rest, I have this crazy theory that Kratos is angry at the gods, is it just me?
No we don’t think he’s angry at them. It just seems like that because he is always yelling 😜
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I mean in the background there are always some cataclysmic event going on, understandable that he is yelling but I dont think anyone can hear him:(
Zeus is powerful, but there's one person he fears: Nyx, The Primordial Goddess of the night.
Primordial Entity Physiology: As a Primordial deity, Nyx is a very powerful entity. She is able to control, alter, create, and manipulate anything and everything in Creation unless a being equal or greater then her interferes. Due to being its personification, Nyx has full of the concept of the night which she also rules. For example, she was able to plunge her island in the Aegean Sea in an endless night and is able to cover herself with a black aura.
Nigh-Omnipotence: While not as great as Khaos or God, she does have supreme and absolute power over Creation. She was described as both omnipotent and unbeatable by those aware of her existence. Despite being limited, She still possess unimaginable level of power fully at her will. All of the power she possess won't backfire or drive her insane.
Conjuration:Nyx is able to create countless beings, realms and universes out of her primeval energy. She did this when she created her children.
Nothingness Manipulation: Nyx is also the primordial being of nothingness and can manipulate its very essence to truly erase countless realms, universes and even primordials to absolute nothingness to the point no proof of their existence remains
Chaos personification: Nyx is both the physical manifestation and personification of chaos in the primeval void.
Darkness Embodiment: Nyx is both the physical manifestation and personification of darkness, the all-encompassing void which acts as the counterbalance to light. Her darkness is made of pure negativity, dark energy and lack of illumination. She can also essentially tap into the core of different forms of darkness itself to assert her dominion.
Flame of the Night: Nix's candles gather energy from all spells she and others cast. For every spell, a candle is lit. For every candle lit Nix gains more magical power.
Immense Strength: As a Primordial Goddess, Nyx is able to go toe-to-toe and even surpass the strongest of beings with nothing but the force of her physical blows. Any level of weight she needs to lift or move is irrelevant as she can emit limitless amount of force that can repel an object of any mass. Nyx is powerful enough to take out the titan king Cronus along with his entire army without trouble.
Night Embodiment: As the Primordial Goddess of the night, Nyx embodies the concept of the night, the period of darkness between sunset and sunrise.
Night Manipulation: Nyx is able to manipulate the night-time, including how long a night lasts, cause night-time regardless of if the sun is not shining on that areas of the world or not. She have limited control over the moon and stars, darkness and the optical phenomena associated with the night-time.
Night: Nyx turns reality completely dark to where only she can see what's going on. Nyx becomes omnipresent with the entire darkness.

Athena in this franchise while very sympathetic to Kratos has ulterior motives that I won't spoil here but you find out eventually! 🙄
The guy that edited the original video really screwed up my not including all of the other scenes with the Gravedigger, who is actually Zeus in disguise. He saves Kratos from the underworld in the first GOW game, only to reappear in Ghost of Sparta condemning Kratos for destroying Atlantis. In this video, only the final scenes with the Gravedigger are included.
I heard that the Gravedigger is Zeus disguised
😯
Hello definitive couple
Hey 😀
I wonder if they will try (they see the super combos in mvcu3.) If they can react to all attacks of PROJECT x Zone 2
The guy next to the tombs is Zeus
His brother is still the one who can kill a god it's just he was not trained.
Will you guys do a reaction to the new God of War?
Yea. But we also want to play god of war 4 and probably play that first 😅
Athena is a good God? Oh my. Have you heard of the story of Medusa?
The biggest joke here is that Zeus feared Kratos.
But the easiest way to stop Kratos was to simply send him to Elysium to be with his wife and child.
