Monsoon in Manipal | 2022

The air sticks to the skin like a warm hug from a grandmother. The wind hums a tune that echoes along the painted walls and cobbled footpaths. The clouds rumble in agitation, growing, inch by inch, waiting to explode in a cacophony of roars, growls and wails.
The sky is set alight by the friction of the clouds. For one miniscule moment, the earth seems to shatter into a dazzling ball of light. When the light fades, a sheet of steady, frustrated tears escape the clouds and bathes the tall hostel towers with the force of a thousand soldiers, the salty stream harsh and never-ending.
Immediately, umbrellas are drawn, raincoats are fastened and bodies are huddled under the grand pillars of the student plaza.
Trees bend and loom over the streets to form a canopy, protecting the precious creatures sharing their umbrellas and blowing warm breaths into the palms of the others' hands.
A silent message is sent to the clouds. They stop their grumbling.
And the skies of Manipal break open to reveal the sun.
