- The new Ford Puma ST Line X is a SUV Crossover based on the new Ford Fiesta and taking some styling from the original Puma back in 1997. Recently winning what car of the year I have high hopes of the new Puma being a great car but can it be as good as the original ?
In the video i show you around the exterior, practicality, interior and of course the driving experience.

Great video. I have to say I’m quite a fan of these.
Thanks James glad you enjoyed the video :)
Awesome video. I just bought mine ST-Line X with tech pack and I can't wait to put my hands on it. Even in 2023 the car is to me the best of its category.
Glad you enjoyed the video and congratulations on the new car. Completely different to the original but I really like it and the look (ST is really good)
Watched a lot of reviews of the Puma and yours is the best by far. Good work!
Very kind of you too say so and glad you enjoyed it 😊
Finally someone who does proper reviews
I'm not keen on the look of new fiesta but the puma is a beautiful looking car well done ford. 👍
It does look good and had the Puma ST this weekend so expect a review of this soon
Aaahh.. that digital dashboard is awesome, Boot is innovative :)
Nice video @MSDC
Glad you enjoyed the video, i do like the tech on the car
Great video. Very well put together. Thinking of getting the puma ST line x. It looks a great car. Love the dash layout. Thank for sharing your opinion on this great car. 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it, it’s certainly not like the original but very different cars.
@@DamoDrives Hi. Yes I nearly got the original puma back when it came out because of having a family it wasn't practical. Now it's just me and the Mr's so definitely going to get one. I currently have the ford EcoSport ST line with all the upgrades on it but it's not what I call expecting to drive. So hopefully in the next few weeks I will be changing to the puma. Reviews say the MHEV is really good when it kicks in with stop start. Anyway thank you for the review one of the best I've watched and I appreciate the hard work putting the video together as I'm a photographer I understand what goes in to making these videos. Cheers buddy 👍👍
Great review, I just got my ST line X edition (Grey matter) and am very impressed with it so far. it drives as expected with a zip in it's tail.
This is a fantastic, professionally made video with lots of camera angles. Great Video.
Thanks Terry glad you enjoyed it and glad the many many hours paid off 😊
Thanks for the Vid.just got mine and slowly learning all the features.Thanks.
Great to hear! Enjoy the new car
A very informative review, no frills, just an honest opinion, top marks.
Really glad you enjoyed the video , I try and do down to earth videos for the every day person like myself, I don’t own a sports car and feel most people probably don’t either 😊
Great review! Very well done! I’ve had my ST Line X for just over a year now and absolutely love it! I’ve generally had sports cars and coupes over the years but had to get something more practical as we got a dog and needed a lot more room to get my son and all his stuff to Uni. It’s proved perfect for all of those duties and more. All the weekly shop fits into the mega box with ease. As mentioned, the engine is incredible for a three cylinder one litre - it feels and drives like an 1800. I went for desert island blue with the same 19 inch alloys featured on your demo model. Also specced it with parking camera and the panoramic roof. 👍🙂🚙
I have my St Line X 155 delivered tomorrow, fantastic red,18" 5 spoke alloys 👌
Just seen the comment , so you are probably the proud owner of the car … hope you are enjoy it
Brilliant review ..practical and honest .. showed everything I needed to see, think you have made my mind up for my next car 👍
I’m so pleased you enjoyed it 😊 and I could help you make a decision about buying the car as well, no idea where in the world you are but go to Hendy Tunbridge wells in the south east as they leant me the car lol
@DamoDrives I'm in Ireland .. was there wireless Android auto in the car?or is it an option you can get ?? Also ..how would compare it to VW T Cross or Yaris Cross Hybrid ?? I was also short listing those cars. Thanks again for your great review
The Ford Puma a superb car, we've had the pleasure of having one in already. Bears little resemblance to the original, save for some design cues, it's just an iconic name.
It is a really good car and for me the ST would be the best choice. You are right Ford have used an iconic name to get some interest in the car in some ways it should have had a new name but if you have some kudos in the name use it 😂. I suspect most buyers of this version will know or care very little about the original
Great idea with the shopping bags, much more useful than seeing you climb in the back or even see how many carry on bags will fit like other reviewers do 👍
If I get the car for the weekend I try and do this, like you said it’s a lot easier to understand what goes in the boot unless you carry around lots of large bags
Got the mrs a brand new one a couple of weeks ago. 155 st x with almost everything in metropolis white with black roof but went for 18 inch wheels not the 19s. Very fun to drive round our way in Cumbria and I'm a touch envious of the heated steering wheel. Never mind, my car has massage seats!
I hope you wife is enjoying the car and I am sure in white it looks great, what car have you got ?
@@DamoDrives I have a 2019 peugeot 5008 diesel. I do the distance and really considered electric for both of us but too expensive and not practical enough. You should try a do a review on the latest model of the 3008 and 5008 with the new face-lift. Saw one the other day, very nice!
I need to speak with a dealer to try and get 1 to review as I really like the new 5008
the Puma is awesome to drive especially the 155hp ST-Line and the ST. I also test drove the 125hp and thought it was nimble but not quite like 155hp and ST.
Ford have always made good driving cars and I really like the look of the Puma , ST is certainly the model I would go for (have done a review of that as well) are you going to order 1 ?
I'm kind of torn between a fiesta st for fun. Or this for the tech. I was leaning towards the st but your video has made me think again
Go for the puma ST which is supposed to be brilliant and can have a proper LSD 😊
Pumas are fantastic cars and very easy to drive and the ST LINE has very decent power for it's size 👍
Great review cheers, lovely car, is that colour lucid red or fantastic red 🤔
Great review thanks! I owned the original Puma (1.6 version) back in the 90s and it was a great little car, although the ride was very stiff. I'm 3 years into ownership of the second gen Puma (ST Line model) and it has been a really fun car to own and drive too. Not without its faults though, one of my diamond cut alloys are starting to corrode quite badly. My car also goes into deep sleep mode a lot complaining about the battery even though I drive 100km a day during the week! The interior rattles a bit, think it is the front passenger seatbelt housing and there is a clunk noise going over road bumps coming from the front of the car - I think something around the bumper is slightly loose. They need to sort out these minor QC problems at the factory. I've just ordered another, a black ST line X model and looking forward to all the little upgrades over my existing car.
SUVs have black plastic arc around the wheels area, this one doesn't, so it's still a sedan then? or is it just based on lower or higher models?
Great video Damon. Very informative. Do you know what is the official Ford name of the colour ? It looks great.
Glad you enjoyed the video, sorry not sure on the official colour name but I am sure they keep changing it
I think it’s called Fantastic Red…
With that ‘mega box’ marketing feature, where do the car jack, wheel nut wrench, and tyre inflator go?
Also, when the hybrid takes over with the engine off, is anything keeping up the oil pressure to the still moving engine parts?
You can option a full size tyre and I think it would then remove the mega box (or it might just reduce the size) the dealer said to me that a lot of buyers do not care about a spare wheel
@@DamoDrives - Good that you can have the option, but even without you’ll still need a jack. Yet I don’t see one in any reviews on the Puma.
I suspect if you include the optional tyre it would be part of that. Ford are very keen to promote the mega box so the cars provided by the manufacturer or dealers to review will not have the tyre. I might be wrong as I have not asked the question
No@@DamoDrives
How comfortable is this car with its 19 inch alloys ????
what a fantastic car love it.
Very good video, thank you 👍
Really glad you enjoyed the video, are you a puma owner
@@DamoDrives after over a year thinking about what to do I've finally recently ordered an ST line version. Will be my first Ford. For someone like me whose entire music collection is on CD I was delighted to discover there is a CD available as a dealer fit accessory.
I think you will really enjoy the car , not sure which country you are in so don’t know if you have managed to test drive the Puma. I used to have CDs but to be honest I just use Spotify
@@DamoDrives did have a test drive, it was indeed very impressive during that - really enjoyable to drive 👍
Thanks for the review Damo. Taking delivery of my St line in grey matter with black contrast roof in March to get the new 22 plate. Added the driver assist pack as it seems like a steal for the extra £900. Looking forward to taking it for a spin. 👍
Good choice and you are right the £900 is a very small amount for what you get and I am sure would help with resale in the future
Just got mine 155 st line x in glacier white .. … massively impressed
Good review Sir. The world is predominantly mad for SUVs of every size and shape and this is another to add to the array of choices that already exist. Personally, I still like a conventional car. I hear that even my Clubman won’t make the next generation MINI which means I’ll be forced into an SUV Countryman if I remain brand loyal. I’ve not been a fan of those to date, despite your glowing reviews Damian.
Thanks Darren lovely comments as usual 😊. Everyone wants an suv of some sort so I guess the manufactures give the buyers more and more SUVs. I have mixed feelings about SUVs they are big and comfortable and the sort of car that is good for just cruising around in and if it’s sporty have some fun but a more traditional car is going to be a better drivers car as it’s lower, less weight. I have a feeling that’s not every car and a bit of a generalisation though
I have a puma in which I have taken to Ford in truro with water or condensation in the back light Ford say it's the normal
@@roycarlisle3421 I would be surprised if Ford had designed a light to allow water in. It might happen with quite a few cars but does not make it right
@@DamoDrives hi been on to customs service just waiting for a reply .from Ford's
Are there any aftermarket headlights that doesn't make Puma look so girly? Otherwise... nice car.
Not sure on that I’m afraid although there probably lay are. Personally I quite like the overall look of the car but we all have different tastes 😊
What coloring is it? Race red or Fantastic red?
I cannot remember the colour name but it is not the latest name shown on fords website as this car was a few months old at the time of shooting and since then some things have changed
Lucid Red I think. Race red is brighter and solid
Am I the only one who thought the original Puma was an under steering jittery nightmare. So what if this has the same name.
Good review on this Puma though
Glad you enjoyed it, not sure if you have see. My 2 Puma ST reviews as well but that is a fantastic car
Puma, Juke or Countryman?🤔. Totally undecided, perhaps need to go back and have another test drive of the Puma.....
Depends on budget I suppose, a Puma ST or Countryman JCW then the Countryman Coopers or Puma ST Line 🤔. I think the look of the Puma is better, prefer the cabin of the Mini, both drive well. I certainly think book to drive both of them again
Definitely puma, in every way, other 2 are significantly smaller.
@@drazenmiskovic4952 test driving the Puma auto and manual on Thursday 😀🚗
A very good idea, picking up a puma ST next weekend to review so looking forward to that
Test drove the Ford Puma ST Line X Vignale this morning, nice car and now seriously thinking of ordering one, but auto gearbox. Well done Ford John Grose Woodbridge 👍👍
Is this more economical than the puma ST.
Well if you are very very careful with the loud pedal on the ST then you can get good mpg but certainly not as good as this model BUT having reviewed the ST there is no way you can potter around lol
Rather have a spare tyre under than the 'box'. They could have done both.
The box goes along way down so not sure you could have both but I think you can option a tyre
I think my one has both, tyre and box.
Looks compact and an one stop solution.... Only thing is its a bit noisy isn't it?
I did not find it noisy for a car in this segment and price although it does have slightly more noise than say a Juke but this is a more engaging drive
@@DamoDrives the location chosen for the video is it supposed to showcase pumas off-road capabilities?
I would like to say yes but it was some where I found with no one about 😂
I don’t think those 19 inch wheels help. Mine has 18’s and suit the car better especially if you go off the black stuff.
Nice one 😀
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
@@DamoDrives I did very much thanks, subscribed 👍
Really appreciate it, more subs and views should give me more access to cars so more content as well. Have a lot of videos on the channel and doing a few more videos about me if you are interested lol
You men a modern classic that's been made to look like every other boring car on the road? Sure...
I loved the original as well and this new version has Very little in common BUT take the name out of it and it is a really good modern car
70 plate st line x should have usb ports front and rear , plus a rear camera and be able to park itself . Im a bit in this vid and i have not seen heated seats (i could be wrong) .
I own a 67 plate focus titanium x and have all the above so why does that puma not have it ?
Puma st line x 😂😂😂😂 what a terrible spec .
