Had to pull the trans out and disassemble it at my subaru dealer today out of a 23 wrx, used this video as a guide as well as workshop manual made it a breeze. Even the new wrx boxes are the same as the old wrx boxes just with an extra gear lol. Found the coasting side of the pinion is completely fried.
I had to disassemble one at my dealership to reseal it. replaced the input shaft oil seal and made sure the input shaft bearing was set in its spot properly but didnt check the output shaft bearing and bricked the case. luckily we had a spare that we threw in the car but I got to strip everything off the output shaft to get to the bearing as a learning experience
You’ve got at least one guy that would watch a build video. I have a little side business rebuilding (mostly) manual transmission and enjoy watching how different ones work. Recently had a guy contact me about rebuilding his six speed. Do you have a source for a typical rebuild kit with bearings, synchros, gasket, and seals? Was doing some searching and couldn’t find anything beyond a synchro kit, and seal kit.
Bro. I was stuck in 3rd gear and I was already in the process of shipping it to my mechanic until I saw your comment. I yanked it and its back to normal now😭hopefully no more issues
Can you tell me a proceedure for setting oreliad on the sloped roller bearings on the frobt differential when the the trans is IN the car? I see the procedure in the FSM for settibg them when the trans is on your bench, but what about when its installed? I have the situation where the sun dial bearinf retainers got messed up and i don't know how far to tighten them😢 thabks for any info.
Thank you, Jon. I have a 2004 H6 with the 4eat I'm pretty certain, and I have a growl coming from the front diff/ torque converter housing. I went to check what I could, and the bearing sundial cup was was hand loose, I spun it out six revolutions by hand. The bearing seemed fine, so I changed the seal and put it back together. And trying to put the preload back on, i got about a 1 ⅛" more rotation, or 3 and change hash marks. Didnt feel like I cranked it on, seemed reasonable. Still growls, and still clunks loud into reverse; no change. Does any of that sound familiar?
@@e-curbI was only replacing all 6 because I was already going to have it out. 4th and 5th were bad. It took me a bit but I finally got it done though.

do we know the mileage of this trans?
Had no clue you had a yt channel lol. I messaged you randomly asking for advice on mine lol. Wish this woulda popped up sooner 😆
Where is your shop? I’m about to tear down my 05 STI transmission to replace all 6 synchros and really don’t want to do it
It's very unlikely that all 6 synchros are bad.

Are the 15-21 models different from 22+ in any way?
Identical
Thank you , awesome video!
