Yes, Cody Johnson (from Huntsville, TX) was a bull rider - and Reba (from Oklahoma) was a barrel racer before they made it in the music business!
Rebas dad was a champion rodeo rider also grandad was rodeo rides also her brother and 1 of her sisters
Reba was discovered singing the National Anthem at a rodeo
But we can’t forget Lane Frost 🤠🤠🇺🇸
@@roosterslounge1697 July in Cheyenne - great song about Lane.
@@roosterslounge1697 July In Cheyenne is a great tribute to Lane Frost!
Cody was a pro bull rider, at local rodeos. Reba was a "barrel racer", not a bull rider. Her grandfather was a champion steer roper.
As well as her father.
He was an amateur bull rider not a pro. He was also a ranch hand
Not just local Cody Johnson is well known by Bull riding fans country wide
Yes, yes, yes! Thank you for doing more CoJo. Yes! Rodeo is like a relationship with someone who you give as much as you can. Rodeo is a fickle lover. There are times when it’s awesome. There are times it beats you into the ground. You break up but, every time you see her/him you know you still want them even though the relationship is a bit toxic. Rode bulls for five years before I hung up my bull rope.
They say once the rodeo is in your blood it's hard to walk away. George Strait also rides a horse in his concerts. Reba, Brooks and Dunn have a song called Cowgirls Don't Cry. I just love it.☮️
For me this song brings a tear to my eyes every time I hear it. All the love, blood, sweat and tear they both put into something they loved with every fiber of that body and soul. They walked away with their head held up and it's their way of saying goodbye to the rodeo.
Reba competed in the rodeo. She was a professional barrel racer before her singing career.
Thank you. George Strait is also a “Cowboy” and, he started the trend of riding a horse around arena’s after his show.
Yup, they both rode in rodeo. I don't know of many rodeo songs with happy endings. It's a rough life, on the road, tough to make a living, but it's apparently an adrenaline rush that many people can't quit.
Chris Ledoux is another country artist with a direct tie to the rodeo he had several songs about the rodeo life
Rodeo gets a hold on your soul. I was never successful at it but i did it for fun. Reba is just a few years older than me and grew up not far from me and i was also into rodeo so we crossed paths. I did NOT "know" her, we were just around the same rodeos and i thought she was amazing. I remembered her when she became famous. I was at college with Garth Brooks too. Lol WHY didn't i get to know them when i had the chance? I actually named my daughter Cheyenne when i heard Reba's brother, Pake, mention his daughter, Cheyenne while i was pregnant. (In 1987) I had never heard that as a name and my father is half Cheyenne! Reba is amazing on EVERY level. Love her.
Yeah, as you said: "rodeo gets a hold on your soul".... Reba has been involved with rodeos, off and on, all these years! She has hosted a couple of rodeos, for charity---her, now, boyfriend, actor Rex Linn ("Better Call Saul", "CSI Miami", "Young Sheldon"), JoDee Massina, Buck Taylor ("Gunsmoke"), and, at least, one of her sisters, participated. Also, a couple of weeks, ago, one of her bulls, named "The Hammer" participated in a rodeo!!! ❤️
No joke, Cody is in the same club as Jon Pardi, Midland and Michael Ray in terms of keeping country music sounding like country music. As someone born in Manhattan but served most of their CONUS time in the military on the Gulf Coast, I'm so happy that they're artists that are maintaining the beauty of their genre. Hey Johnny Rebs, you might not love me. But I certainly love my time with you. Stay strong, stay proud, because I love you guys and gals... just not in a weirdo liberal way where you ask me to say it out loud. Just not doing that.
Not to take anything away from this beautiful tribute duets to something that is a big part of both their lives, but when I hear the title I can't help taking a brief moment to picture a rodeo with riders trying to ride broncin' bucks instead of bucking broncos.
Also, Brit fangirling over Reba's wardrobe and Cody in general is an absolute win.
From a perspective of a former bull rider just like Cody, this song is a love letter to rodeo.
He said it was a therapeutic goodbye letter to the Rodeo.... because he always wanted to be a cowboy and it felt like he was giving up on his dream...
Cody describes this as his love letter to the sport of rodeo. He used to ride professionally and it is written about walking away from the sport but its also intentionally written so it can be also applied to a relationship. Because when it's such a large part of your life it almost is like a relationship.
You have to check out the live acoustic version of Cody Johnson singing Nothing on You. It is AMAZING!!!❤
Yes this needs to happen
Reboot was a barrel racer, and she got her start singing the national anthem at rodeo she used to barrel racing, so Rita has a big-time rodeo background
The rodeo/concert where he ride his horse was the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. That is also where he first sang the Rodeo song. It was his love letter to the sport.
My daughter is 9 years old and gaining her footing in the rodeo world as an amazing little goat tyer and a roper (breakaway and starting heeling) if it wasn't for Brooks and Dunn and Cody Johnson IDK where she would be today. Their music has helped keep her involved and to keep competing ❤
Brooks and Dunn sing a song called "Cowgirl Don't Cry" It's about Reba and her Dad
By Your Grace, by Cody Johnson. Very powerful song.
Agreed!!!
reba's father was 3 time world class steer roper and reba ran barrels at rodeos as a kid. until she was 21. and still rides.
I was in a profession similar to the rodeo and I had to step away because of my health. It’s almost like a relationship. It’s almost like a lover this life you live on the road with your animals. It’s painful and beautiful. It’s also like a drug you chase it. You never wanna do anything else, but eventually, your body breaks down. You wanna say it was the job‘s fault but you know if you had to do it again you would. Reba is also the reason I got into the entertainment business. She has been a part of every milestone in my life.
Reba was a barrel racer her dad and grandpap were both steer ropers who won the national finals rodeo in their respective times
Reba also grew up on a ranch & her Daddy was a Bull Riding world champ several times
I like how at the end, you finally got your back story you always seek from a song.
I'll be honest, I never really cared for Cody. But I recently watched the live CMT fest version of "Whoever's in New England" with Cody and Reba, this changed my mind and is a must watch!
How can you not like Cody?
@@lanehenkle6400 I guess I just never listened to enough of his stuff to like it. But I'm a fan now for sure!
Another Rodeo star that made a singing career Chris Ledoux check out his This Cowboy's Hat song
Reba was a barrel racer and her daddy was a champion steer roper. She grew up in the rodeo.
The "rodeo athlete" is a rodeo cowboy. And yes, "almost had 'ems and broken bones" is in fact a very real thing in the sport. While I have never been a rodeo cowboy, I have known many of them. Lane Frost is the reason that all the "rough stock" cowboys, bull riders and bronc riders are now required to wear the protective vests they wear. Frost was gored by a bull at the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo several years ago and died as a result of his injuries. As someone else mentioned, I don't know of any "rodeo songs" with a happy ending. Cue Moe Bandy's "Bandy the Rodeo Clown."
Reba was founded by Red Steagal the man who sings about freckles brown and tornado
They are called bull riders. They have to hang on for 8 seconds.
Reba does a song called "Cow girls don't cry"
I'm glad you finally react to Cody Johnson and your auntie Reba mcentire that was some great story tribute for Reba and Cody ,but I never heard that song again
Girl, Reba ages like a fine wine while most of us age like bread 😂😂
They are both great singers in my book Reba is a living legend an Cody his music speaks for itself would love to see you react to a bull riding montage 👍
Both of them used to Rodeo. Cody was a Bull and Bronc rider if I'm right. Reba did some Barrel racing and was a Trick rider.😢
working the rodeo IS a relationship...it's not just a sport, it is a relationship.
This the one. The one that I was waiting for you to react to and the one that I found Cody Johnson's music.
The song is a love letter to the rodeo , he gave it up.
Reba also gave it up
I hereby proclaim, from this day forward, that you shall be named in my mind as " sparkles "
Reba was discovered singing the National Anthem at a rodeo.
Great reaction, as usual. Rodeo athletes are called cowboys and cowgirls. Here's a great rodeo song from the best cowboy singer/songwriter, Chris Ledoux. Silence on the Line - ruclips.net/video/QZvZ4Scr_6Q/видео.html
Very few people react yo Chris. Probably because there aren't many people that know of him
This is Cody’s goodbye letter to the Rodeo. He used to ride. He also has a movie in prime called Dear Rodeo that explains it. Great Movie
You should also checkout Chris LeDoux he was a World Champion and then became a singer...."This Cowboy's Hat" or "Hooked on an 8 Second Ride" are both great songs and total opposites of each other.
"..almost had 'ems and the broken bones..." Any rodeo bull rider will end up with a pile of broken bones before they're done. The almost had em's, are just missing a winning score, or almost making the mandatory 8 seconds on the bull before dismounting. I lived in a tiny Nebraska town for over a decade. My next door neighbor was a rodeo announcer and we had a rodeo at the town arena every year. Bull riding was a big part of it. And yes, we had some local guys in the lineup. It's part of the culture.
Hello Britt hope your doing well and healthy today too another great awesome reaction by you again like always thank you so much for sharing your video with us love it Britt.🤗👍
Just love your reactions....thanks...
Yes and yes. Actual rodeo and life. Both.
Fyi, Reba has a full album called "Duets". Pretty straight-forward lol. I think you have reacted to a few. My faves are the ones w Jennifer Nettles and w Faith Hill! 😊
Yes Cody was a bull rider but reba was a barrel racer from the age 11-21 and if you don't know what that is it is where you ride on a horse around barrels in a Cloverleaf pattern if you got any questions about reba you can come to me I am definitely a reba fan girl and I got some reba song suggestions that I think you will like. One good reason, forever love, Myself without you, Just when I thought I stopped loving you, and one I think you will really like is Bobby
I always felt like “Rodeo” could’ve been a girl he loved within that community
Theres a great uoutube out there right now where cody johnson stops a concert after the jason aldean stuff started its great the rant he goes on and the crowd is huge and supports it all very cool if u can find it..
Reba was a barrel racer that was discovered by Red Steagall singing the National Anthem at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas
Both of them, yup. It is a way of life.
Garth Brooks song "Rodeo" is a bad ass song and one of my favorites. I am from the same Oklahoma town Garth is it from. Yukon, OK
They were both in rodeo. She barrel raced, CoJo rode bulls until injury forced him to quit. He now does a little bit of roping, but his first love of bulls is over.
Reba was a barrel racer and Cody was a bull rider.
Yes, the rodeo is very much a part of their history.
Just for fun, Reba sang with her brother & sister (Susie & Pake) when they were very young, before Reba became a country music icon.
It's completely about Rodeo, when you been in it, it very much feels like leaving a love when you are out of it but kinda hurts more cause you can't re find it anywhere else. It's tougher than any relationship I have ever been in.
You should react to some Lane Frost stuff especially the George Michael's sports machine episode.
Huge fan.
It's a love song to his love, which is rodeo.
Cody Grew up in the radio and Reba starting her singing career doing national anthems and such In the rodeo
She was also a participant in rodeos, for ten years (barrel racing). Her father, brother, and grandfather were/are champion steer ropers.
@catwhisperer9489 Yup!!! love Reba! and their voices together are awesome.
@@matthewnastasi1989 👍
Also listen to reba and brooks and dunn cowgirls dont cry
Cody has won championships belt buckles also
If you want to understand the rodeo a little better. Listen to July in Cheyenne by Aaron Watson
Reba used to barrel race. Listen to “The Ride” by Chris Ledoux and "July in Cheyenne" by Aaron Watson
Reba got her start in music at the rodeo. she used to ride horses racing Barrels, not riding bulls, thats for the men. women dont ride the bulls. plus she got noticed with her singing the national anthem . look that up. late 70's early 80's.
She was discovered in 1974; signed her first recording contract, in November, 1975; so, she's getting close to 50 years, in the business.
Women weren't allowed to ride bulls, then---they do, now.
Another great reaction video, I don't know if you have done a reaction video to the band Sugarland especially to the song Stay featuring the great vocals of Jennifer Nettles, because she was going through a divorce in real life and it was hard for her to get through the recording.
Wow ! I never heard this before!
I think Reba got her start singing at Rodeos in Oklahoma.....
Yes, this is a song about them walking away from the rodeo once they were discovered as singers, and made a big I like to think of it as a song, dedicated to all the country artist who used to be a professional rodeo rider, and made it out and believe me, there are quite a few country singers, who used to be professional rodeo riders and yes It is a love-hate relationship between the rodeo and professional rodeo riders because you never know when you’re gonna get hurt in an event. If you’re gonna win the money, you put down to enter, and then some end, it involves a lot of traveling as well, and if you have your own horse that you take to these events, you got a haul your own horses.
They don't have female bull riders but rodeos have other events too, like buckins horses and barrel racing for women.
If you want to learn more about Cody Johnson there is a documentary film about his life called “Dear Rodeo” and it is a must watch!
Beautiful ❤️🔥
Is there nothing Auntie Reba cant do??? Love her so much!!!!
They both rode and were pretty good
You should watch a movie called "8 Seconds" about Lane Frost - absolutely amazing true story.
I had a girlfriend not too long ago, we had so many problems but I did love her. I played the fool and there's nothing I wanted more than puttinng on that buckle on and I couldn't. That's Rodeo like though.
Like you I’ve never understood the scoring or anything, it wasn’t until recently I found out that you get 0 points unless you last the whole 8 seconds. I always thought you got something/it went up the longer you stayed on. I only found out because they mentioned it when the guy last 7.99 seconds and they said he didn’t get points. 😳. I enjoy watching it for fun so never realized it’s probably good to learn the rules lol.
I know Cody was a rider, but I don't know as much about him. This is the only song I've heard from him.
Reba on the other hand I k ow all about. Reba is a third generation Rodeo family. She was a barrel racer and wanted to make it her career, but her Daddy had a tough conversation with her when she got discovered (at a rodeo btw). He said you are a mediocre barrel racer, but God has given you this gorgeous voice and it'd be a shame if you didn't pursue it. 💗
A couple other great rodeo songs are July in Cheyenne- Aaron Watson, Amarillo by Morning & I can still make Cheyenne by King George
Factoid, Britt, when she was younger, Reba actually competed in rodeos as a barrel racer.
Reba was a Barrel Racer
It's his love letter to the rodeo
Have you seen the video of George Strait “Amarillo By Morning” 1982 top ten hit?Cody and Reba are influenced by him👍
I personally know it is a hard way to make a living.
Cody rides in the Rodeo. Reba use too be a barrel racer
I would suggest that you pull up the movie “8 Seconds “ about Lane Frost and it might give you a better perspective. Plus it’s a great movie.
Both were involved on rodeo
Cody was a rodeo competitor.
A full ride on a bull, is a full 8seconds.
Cody Johnson rdoe bulls in the rodeo before he started singing so this is his tribute to his past.
Reba was a barrel racer.
Reba was a barrel race
Cody used to be a bull rider, but now team ropes
You should check out “by your grace” by Cody Johnson. I think you’d love it
I will keep it in mind, thanks!
I love your channel, except for the fact that I can’t see squat on the video. Can you maybe try another filter that doesn’t obscure the visual? That would make it perfect!❤
Love your reactions ever though of doing Iron Maiden, I suggest "the trooper" or "fear of the dark"
He's just a bull rider and yes this song hits me hard that's the only other pure love in my life besides my wife and kids bc I had to hang up my spurs and bull rope and walk away from the rodeo life in the winter of 09
I was 25yrs old
A lot of ppl do rodeo. Many think it’s a white sport but it’s not. I’m my area there are just as many blk bull/bronc riders as white. Lol Even the girls. They don’t ride the bulls but barrel racers…
The passion you gotta have!! They put their lives and bodies out there for that punishment all for a buckle!! Lets be honest, the money is not that great for what they go through.
