"They got a knock sense of humour the Swedes haven't they? Oh look! Eeeeey!" One of ESC's funniest moments and Terry's finest quotes, Gothenburg 1985 is probably in the Top 10 Eurovision years of all time, so many great songs, a lovely stage, enthusiastic crowd and a wide open exciting voting. Shameful voting from Cyprus, 0 to Norway, Sweden + UK!(Their only non score of the evening) must've been weird without The Netherlands, their first time absent due to national remembrance of the dead being held that day.
Don't worry, at the time we were used to zeroes the most part of the time! However, this was the first year we ever heard Norway 12 points!! Hanne Krogh said just after victory that it was more fun to win on 0s and 12s, than on 7s and 8s etc!

When I woke up the morning after, I had to ask if I had been dreaming, because we were used to get "null" points most of the time...
But not this time around!!!

The mother of all votings, cause 1. my first ESC 2. Even high points goes for every directions. 3. Finland had the first applause from 6p. :)
How tedious, boring and endless the voting was back then, thank god it's much more exciting these days. The best song won and ranks among one of the Eurovision all time greats.
It's funny you describe it as such because this was actually one of the most exciting votings of its time.
The revolving scoreboard of today makes me giddy, there are too many countries in on the act, which has just skewed the voting in favour of Eastern Europe. Bring back the 1998 scoreboard, let's hear all votes and from those countries and only those countries which are participating that year.
Was Lill Lindfors paid by the minute or something? She dragged this voting out almost as much as Marlene Charell did. Scoring all over the place, as is probably to be expected in a weak-as-peas year like '85. Funny how Norway took the lead at the start, then would have to wait until 3 countries to the finish to reclaim it!
To me as an 11 year old girl it was a torture watching it! I sweated like marathonathlic in 40 degrees at the end.
