  • Not from Chicago, but from a galaxy not too far away - Evansville, IN, via that city's ABC affiliate WTVW Channel 7 - here's the complete broadcast of a first-run airing of the Mork & Mindy episode "Mama Mork, Papa Mindy" (S04E05).
    By this time, Jonathan Winters - whom series star (and Chicago native son) Robin Williams openly acknowledged as a major influence on his own improvisational style - had joined the cast as the title characters' son Mearth, who in this episode takes more a liking to Mork than Mindy. Robert Donner guest stars as Exidor.
    Includes:
    Commercials for:
    Mountain Dew - "Pepsi Payoff Caps" prize offer - look for the caps with a star
    Jif peanut butter (with Mrs. Nona Hasselbring)
    Station ID with promo for Weathercast phone number
    Show opening titles [music has been replaced with an earlier season's version of the theme to avoid RUclips blocking]

    Episode Act I
    Commercials for:
    Time Bandits (theatrical trailer)

    Episode Act II
    Commercials for:

    Finally a possibility to be able to watch US TV as it aired. It's kinda impossible when you're from The Netherlands. The 'don't go away, we'll be right back'-message by Pam/Mindy is already making this worthwhile. :)

      Robin was very vocal in his declarations that his style of improv comedy was modelled on Winters', who was apparently something of a childhood hero for him.

    That's Augusta Dabney in the Kodak ad, Chris Robinson in the Buckwheat ad.
    I had almost forgotten that sitcoms used to have the studio audience burst into applause when someone walks through the front door.

I didn't realize back then that Winters was Robin's hero but I do now. Two legends with Pam like the rest od us just trying to keep up with their brand of crazy funny.

    I remember watching this when it first aired. I was in the second grade. I am not sure what day it was on, but I know it wasn't Weds. because The Greatest American Hero and The Fall Guy were on ABC in '81. I know by the forth season the show had a horrible time slot, I just forget what it was.

    No offense to the late Great Robin Williams and Johnathan Winters but this was when this show "jumped the shark". Seemed all of Garry Marshall's shows hit a nose dive when they changed the basic premise. Happy Days in Season Five with the 3 Part Hollywood Season Opening, Laverne and Shirley in Season 6 when they moved to California and Mork and Mindy with the birth of Mearth. Though to be honest Happy Days really wasn't the same show when they went to the three camera sitcom format and start giving Fonzie all these magical powers and made Ralph and Potsie less worldly and more buffoonish.

    • @shyman99
      @shyman99 2 года назад +3

      Uh, how is it possible to "jump the shark" on a series that is based on an extraterrestrial who comes to Earth from the planet Ork?

    • @GFI888
      @GFI888 2 года назад +2

      Interestingly, the phrase 'jump the shark' came about when Happy Days had Fonzie attempting to jump over sharks on his motorcycle. From then on it meant a show hitting its decline usually due to strange plots that shifted from the show's original characters and premise.

    • @shyman99
      @shyman99 2 года назад +3

      @@GFI888 - I believe it has more to do with unrealistic & odd plots. Daredevil actions fits Fonzie's character and show's premise. But having that particular daredevil action is odd and unrealistic.

      I think the show was a lot of fun but I got the feeling the constant cast changes and timeslot changes were the biggest problem.

    • @SuperMarioBrosIII
      @SuperMarioBrosIII 2 года назад +4

      @@kengeorgejones6855 You think this was jumping the shark LOL! Believe it or not a season 5 was originally planned which would have seen Mork & Mindy traveling through time to escape from Kalnik. Mork & Mindy meets Sliders aka meets Quantum Leap! There were even promotional photo's taken of Robin Williams and Pam Dawber with actors dressed a like Abraham Lincoln and George Washington to further prove this premise LOL! But it never reached fruition hence the cliff hanger finale as when it was original filmed and wrapped the cast didn't yet know the fate of the series until months later when ABC finally pulled the plug. 📺🤔🤷‍♂🙆

    While the show did change quite a bit for the last season, I still enjoy Jonathan Winters as Mearth, he brought a new dynamic to the show, and it's fun to watch him learn and grow as the season progresses. I also like how Mindy's father proves to still be one of the cooler TV dads as, after dealing with his daughter having an alien move in with her and then marry him, now he adjusts quickly to having a grandson that looks his age, LOL. And Bob Donnner's always a riot! It's just too bad that they dropped Tom Poston after the last episode, I guess they couldn't figure a way to explain Mearth to him.
