I preferred the before sounds. But that is more of a personal preference. And I probably play different music styles than you. Both were very good sounds. What really matters is that you're happy with your sound. Cheers!
I agree I prefer clean sounds and sounds with little drive.
I agree completely, I would keep Teslas and change pots and caps and nut.
Absolutely 😮
I think the Tesla neck pickup was a bit too muddy, I preferred the other pickup there, but that's all up to your personal taste.
I did a similar wiring loom swap on a Gretsch Electromatic, which also meant enlarging all the holes from metric to imperial sizes. A hand-held "metal taper hole reamer" was the way to do it. Full control and reduces the chances of overdoing it and chipping the finish.
I did the same mods to a chinese Tokai LP but i went with seymore duncans. Wow what a difference the mods made, it has become a totaly different guitar and the sound has improved 10 fold if not more. I say these kinda mods are worth the money if you like the guitar from the start, you need a good base template for a good outcome. I actually think the Tesla pickups had better note definition. I think if you went with more highend pickups the result would be more noticable.
Fantastic upgrade Sascha, can’t wait to hear this beauty in action in more videos!! I noticed in the background your original music Tauren 😊
In my experience, changing p/ups and pots has little not no effect on 'tone' but people believe it has - like the effect of prayer on illness
Cool swap. Great sound ❤ The Tesla pickups didn’t sound bad though. Have the same guitar model pure stock.
The original sound is more focused on the instrument nature, the toneriders make it loose the clean sound. I love blues style. It's only my opinion.
Well done. Well worth investment.
Thanks!
Hi. Please help me make a choice.
Which Les Paul type guitar should I look for if I prefer an old school vintage sound? From RUclips, I like the way the Jet JL-500 sounds the most. But I do not have the opportunity to listen to guitars live, so I need advice.
Issue is unless you already have all of this on hand, if you do all of these modifications you’re going to spend as much or more than the guitar cost to begin with. People also seem to not understand that no matter how much mod and invest into a Harley Benton guitar it will always be a cheap guitar that will never be worth what you originally paid for it!
How did you widen the holes for the new pots?
I used drill bits of different sizes to slowly enlarge the holes
@@SRguitar Did you drill from the inside or outside of the body?
@@dtantsikian Outside to inside, you need to be careful though
🤘🤘❤️
Would you gig with that guitar on stage?
Nice video.
Tonerider pickups has more sustain
Not much of a difference between the pickups at max., the wiring on the other hand makes a huge difference.
Those pickups have more output, you can hear the amp compressing differently, but that's it, no change in tone, alnico 5 pickups still sound as alnico 5 pickups... Then new electronics might be more durable, but still no necessary given tha age of the guitar... Unless you need that extra output, wasted money
Crap ... pls get a set of proper pickups. $80 ... it's the the same stuff as already built in.
True. He could get some Duncans sh4 or sh6...
Actually I like the tesla pickups much more
That Tonerider neck pickup is terrible.
I like your choice for pickups they do indeed sound better, more vintage.
I stumbled onto some killer cheap PU's I thought I could share. In the 1980's Gibson were losing money in Japan as everyone were buying the excellent MIJ clones. They decided to compete by making their own. They called theses guitars Orville by Gibson. They needed PU's so they sent a USA PAF to have cloned. Gotoh made the PU's for them. You can buy the MIJ Gotoh HB-Classic Alpha , virtually a PAF. I suspect it is a Gibson 57 Classic clone. It nails that 50's 60's PAF sound dead perfect. It is an alnico 2 magnet so you get those fat warm mids. $52.00 USD ea.
Again no difference in sound and therefore a waste of money for pickups 7:00 7:18
Do you probably need to sleep? Otherwise, I can't explain your replacement of pickups 🤦
You buy an HB and then I don't know why the stock pickups bother you? At the same time, they sound exactly the same after the exchange!? You're obviously obsessed with stock pickups and don't care how they sound 😂🙏
Thanks for this. I will mod mine guitar as recommended
that I only change wiring and pots and capacitors. I think that pickups are ok.
I changed out the PUPs and POTS and switch on my HB SC-Custom I put Fluence PUPS in and matched CTS Premium 500k POTS and a switchcraft 3 way switch it already had a Graphtech nut and Gotoh tuners so I did not change those, the Wilkinson PUPs that it came with were OK but the Fluence ones are in a different league, especially the neck tones I enjoy changing the electricals around on my budget guitars just to get differing tones, the stuff I took out wont be wasted as I will buy yet another real cheap HB guitar and see if I can improve it.
I Like the origional pickup sound...
So what I took from this video: Modifying it makes no clear "better" sound, just buy from the start a more expensive guitar that can do something like coil splitting well for example and then you actually get something for your money got it.
Same Alnico 5, more output in brigde pickup... but same price range? Those Generator worth 80€ the set, while the Opus 1 worth 80€ each. I will install a push-pull and split coil the Teslas first and when i get bored ill upgrade to Duncans.
you should always swap the nut and replace it with a bone nut..I ddi it with my HB ...BIG difference in tone!
I have Tonerider pickups in all 5 of my guitars. They are great!!!
Has anyone upgraded the bridge and stoptail? I wanted to put a Gotoh stoptail...
The mojotone knobs and switch are US sized so it makes sense. But what a cool upgrade man, sounds really great
Those Tonerider pickups sound great. Great demo and playing.
I believe the nut is actually graphite. At least according to the Thomann website. I am not sure if the previous SC-550's had a graphite nut, or plastic.
@scottfisher3948I see it listed as graphite on the gotoh one
What pickups did you say you put in this guitar?
I literally say and show it in the video - Tonerider Generator
@@SRguitar -you're right, I just forgot. You don't have to be an ass about it though.
Why I am an ass now? 😂
@@SRguitarsomeone has complexes 😂😂😂
That wasn't even a harsh answer, people need to grow thicker skins 😂😂
