DishNet has the best picture, Now TV can be accessed on the internet it's simpler like amzon TV
Here something "just" to think about. There nothing on the radio- am on the weekends.
It would be very helpful if you were on the radio, just for an hour, as an adviser for getting good tv reception. See the responds. People in every large city, need people they can count-on,
that is able to communicate a solution, with the technology, always changing.
One person can be in 5 large cities at one time. With a crew in them cities.
There was a time a person could go down to the local radio Shack Store.
I bought an "cheaper" antenna as a proof a concept. I bought a bigger one that went on the roof that worked great until the amp failed. I bought one on the recommended list and have been solid for a couple of years!
Having been in electronics and communications for over 60 years, I agree with this young man 100%. Last year I installed one of his recommended antennas, co-ax, and inline amplifier. I couldn't be happier! Total cost was less than $100 in my case (which is less than one month charge of cable service). In my geo location, without turning my antenna, I receive over 40 local channels. This young man has much wisdom for his age. Trust him.
I love using outdoor antennas on a pole. I watched a video Tyler did explaining how to use two antennas on a pole with a switch. They point in opposite directions and I can switch from one to the other. I've bee doing this for many years. Very happy.
He's called The Antenna Man for a reason. Heed is advice and save yourself a headache and your pocketbook.
Tyler is so spot on -- your antenna (and your nearness to broadcast antennas as well as the frequency used by the broadcasters) make such a big difference in reception and if you aren't next door to the networks, you may indeed need a really good antenna. But unlike cable or any pay streaming, it's a ONE TIME investment and it can last decades. In 2015 I bought a Winegard HD8200U antenna and installed it in my attic and I could get over 60 OTA channels. Five years later I had to have my roof replaced and for some reason, the new shingles interfered with the low frequency (VHF) local ABC broadcast. I had to have the antenna moved out of the attic and onto the roof and not only did that restore the reception of ABC but it resulted in my being able to receive another 10-20 channels. That antenna now probably costs double the price I paid for it but I would buy it again in a second if I anything happened to my current antenna. (The biggest problem was finding an antenna installer in my area because I have sloping yard and very tall house.)
I agree! 10yrs ago, I purchased a fine antenna and a booster for the equivalent cost of 1 month of cable T.V. It still works...🇺🇸 👍☕
I definitely improve my reception after watching your videos for years
Over three years ago I took your advice on a antenna, I can't thank you enough, I can't remember the name, it works great! I really so appreciate what you do.
Thanks for the feedback - I'm glad you are enjoying the results!
I had a outdoor antenna in the attic space of my garage. I even had a signal amplifier on it. I still had poor reception due to signal having to get through wall/roof. Since all channels (most major networks) have gone digital and mostly uhf, I now have my outdoor antenna outdoors, on a 10 ft.tall pole, receiving broadcasts 26 miles away. And they come in w/o the need for any amplifier.
At my parents old house we had a huge log-periodic antenna in the attic. I think it was the biggest one Radio Shack sold.
Its probably a location-specific situation, but I've got one in my attic space and it works great. As long as you don't have the 'path' to the broadcast towers blocked by a metal roof, metal ductwork, dense trees, high buildings, it should work. I did have problems with one station needing a 5G filter and another lower-powered one I liked to watch needing an amplifier, but those were easy fixes and I'm getting solid reception with great picture quality.
Hey, Tyler...
Great video on antennas. I have two indoor antennas. One from Antennas Direct (60 mile multi-directional version, now discontinued ☹️) and one from Channel Master (50 mile flat version). Both of them work great (you recommended both of these). Always looking forward to your videos. Keep up the good work. 👍
You are a gentleman and a scholar for testing all these antennas for up. Keep up the good work. 😁
i made my own indoor tv antenna following the design of the walltenna, and it works quite well!
I purchased a recommended attic antenna(older model of the Clearstream) 10-12 years ago from Best Buy. We pull in stations from Milwaukee and Madison. I used the old Direct TV indoor wires to receive over the air stations in both the upstairs and main level of our home. Very satisfied with our antenna and service.
Thanks for the great video.
No problem. I hope that it does well so that RUclips recommends it to people who are not subscribed to my channel.
Tyler, Thanks for doing a lot of the heavy lifting for us.....Stay safe..... J
Thanks for the info Antenna Man, you're invaluable.
Thanks Tyler for recommending the brand CHANNEL MASTER. ALMOST 2+ years of 100% dependable OTA CHANNELS. LOVING THE METOONS CHANNEL.
I highly recommend using Tyler’s antenna service. I used it twice, once for me, and once for my daughter’s home. In both instances, Tyler was responsive, offering suggestions and hints I never would have thought of. He recommended different antennas for the different homes since they are over 100 miles apart and needed different antennas to provide the best service. Both homes receive a ton of free channels over the air and I have saved hundreds cancelling expensive streaming services - and I bought the right antenna the first time, thanks to Tyler’s recommendations.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm glad it worked out well.
I love my chimney mounted antenna with a rotor. I live in Mercer County, New Jersey and I receive all the New York City and Philadelphia channels reliably when the antenna is pointed Northeastward. Every now and then I point it towards the Lehigh Valley and receive those channels perfectly as well. There are a few times throughout the year (temperature inversion) when Hartford, Connecticut stations come in.
I got Lucky, I picked up a junk Antenna for my first one but it did a decent job picking up the main channels until I got a stronger one later
thanks for keeping it real for all these years, Tyler =)
Thanks Tyler. You are the man!
Hopefully they will listen to what you are saying and avoid the scams.
I know I fell for some junk in the past.
Great content keep it up!
Shoppers may consider Walmart online as an alternate source in the US . . . and not just for antennas, but for most other items, too.
I've been using them for years, with pricing consistently lower; free shipping when dollar minimum is met; and delivery time every bit as good as Amazon.
Better. Amazon sits on orders for days to a week in the hope that you have another order where they can ship both in the same box, which then arrive the next day(ish) if local to a week or so if cross-country. Walmart FedExes packages the next day at the latest, and you get it shortly after, usually 3 days order-to-delivery.
Thank you Mrs Walton 👍🏻
Good information!
Thx antenna man!
IMO it is the matter of commitment to 'cut the cord'. My first antenna into it was the good old 'Ping-Wing-Ding' model, it worked decent, until it didn't. That didn't take long. Now I found a great antenna and found more channels than I could ever want. It is a matter of research, commitment and some trial and error. This is why channels like yours on RUclips are invaluable.
Home made antennas often work fine. A balun and some lengths of wire will work
This junk antenna problem isn’t just a problem with Amazon. I’ve also seen it on eBay and Walmart’s search algorithms as well. Some will go as far to list a few cable channels on the pages as well like CNN, even when over-the-air television doesn’t support them.
Whoops, I should've checked eBay too.
My antenna claimed 100 mile range. I printed out a new sticker that says "500 mile range" and I tripled my channels!!!
Once again, the 'science' proves the theory!
Thank you all for getting the sarcasm! 🙃
I have the antenna that’s on the table behind him and it works fantastically.
Yes, that is a great model!
I know that's an indoor antenna but it's even better if you can get it outside facing the towers. I get all my Philly channels with it, even low VHF 2 and 6ABC with 60-70% signal strength. With the antenna inside those channels won't come in and the UHF channels 3, 10, 17, 29, 57 will get occasional pixilation. So far it's held up ok in the winter weather but if it doesn't I'm only out $12.
always enjoy your video s
Tyler is a god especially to older people who rely on TV antennas like me.
Great info thanks tyler
What antenna you recommend for attic installation
Years ago, when I bought my first HD Flat Screen, I was told that I need a HD Antenna. Instead, I used a 20-year-old set of Rabbit ears that I bought at Goodwill and it worked just fine.
My coat hanger antenna is doing good job indoor I'm planning on putting it outside later this year when weather warms up and find a Hotspot around the house to get more channels will it hurt it being outside later
I had purchased a "5 Star Yagi" antenna before seeing any of these videos.
I live in NJ about 40 miles as the crow flies from NY broadcasters. It is not a 200 mile antenna they advertise.
Am able to receive UHF channels only. The channel signals are very weak. I rarely get to pick up MeTV.
Sometime later, I picked up a Clearstream original version 1 of craigslist. Believe it or not. It's performed better than the 5 Star Yagi without (I believe ther term is) dipoles. However the NYC broadcasters are still far away to get a great signal.
I do like fiddling with the 5 Stat Yagi. I extended the dipoles, I even added a chicken wire deflector in the back.. It actually helped the signal.
I still use the internet for tv however, but it would be nice to receive MeTV.
40 miles in NYNJ is not far. Obvious question is whether you looked up MeTV compass direction then aimed the antenna using your phone’s compass app. I think you need to be in a 30d cone which is just a 1/3 of a right angle turn.
I can pick MeTV up. Yes I do use my phone compass. It is an extremely temperamental to obtain the signal. Once it becomes bearable to be outside for awhile, I will fiddle with it some more. I did acquire an RCA amplifier at a flea market.. Think it's worth using?
@@jackhammer-amplifiers are definitely worth it I have the RCA amplifier set at the low DB game works great good coax makes a big difference too I've been watching the antenna man since 2020 you can learn a lot from his old videos
I purchased the cheap antenna with the rotor before knowing anything. I'm roughly 60 miles south of Cleveland, Ohio and 40 Miles west from Youngstown Ohio and receive 80 channels. I receive all my networks out of each market except Fox8 out of Cleveland. It's nice since each market has different sub channels. I'm ready to upgrade to a real antenna now
Any stations from Akron/Canton? I live in PA 20 miles west of Ohio border & get channel 45 from Alliance & all Youngstown stations with indoor Mohu leaf antenna
I'm still using the cheap Chinese yagi with the built in rotator and amp. I know it's probably junk but like folks have said, proof of concept and it had everything to just quickly hook it up and get it running. It's mounted on the rail of the back porch stairs so easy to check on or change. I recently got a really nice stand out heavy duty mount so I'll be ready to mount something better, probably on the dormer over the front door. I'm kinda surprised it hasn't gotten broken or burned out but it continues to work.
Do you have recommendations for best cell phone antennas?
Yes! See video below: ruclips.net/video/vG5TurYPHuw/видео.html
Great information 👍
When buying an antenna, buy them from the manufacturer directly (Channel Master, Wineguard, Antennas Direct, Televes, etc.) The antennas from Amazon are 100% trash 🗑️. 👍
I have an off grid property. I placed a large, old, multi-element antenna similar to a channel master. The question I have is should I orient the elements straight across from one another or in “V” shape? I thought one way picks up vhf better?
Will having a good antenna improve the awful quality of OTA TV programming?
Thank you for the great advice.
I dont even watch tv but I like these videos for some reason.
I appreciate you watching them!
Hello Mr Antenna man, like your videos, may have missed this one if there is one.im in ohio with long range outdoor Antenna with amp, ample, good one not junk, with a rotor.what I want to know is there some way of programming tv channels to lock in while using rotor, instead of everything I turn rotor have to reprogram tv.ive tried scanning while turning Antenna but dosent seem to do the job.thanks if you can help or not.
Yes, see video below: ruclips.net/video/YDQzvFG3chs/видео.html
I have given up on Amazon, among others. They are shady. 😮
Amazon should do more to combat their fake review problem but have little motivation as they probably make more money when people have to buy multiple antennas.
Yeah after getting a few things that was junk on Amazon I quit buying stuff from them.
There's only one product that I get from there and that's kinesiology tape.
@@DannyWildmann But Amazon sells some creditable, high quality antennas, such as by Televes.
i have a 30 foot pole with a few antennas and one satellite dish on it i was planning on getting into ham radio and weather charting with them rather than take it all down. i only just recently found an interest in rf and wifi tech
Bought Televes Eclipse, mounted on Channel Master post, and mounted on piece of plywood so I could aim it. Placed it in our attic, went from 40 odd channels to over 80.
Televes, for all you have to pay for one, has really sub part support... Getting response to simple questions nearly impossible. Miami offices closed, only support is Aurora, CO location - must be out skiing?
Televes doesn't have a lot of staff in their US headquarters, but they do try their best to help as many people as possible who have trouble picking up some channels.
I know that vhf low 2-6 is a bit issue, but I have a somewhat strong RF channel 5 I need an antenna for when spring comes. I have looked recently for a 2-6 beam and it’s a no go…. Even 7-13 antennas are getting rare… no issue with finding UHF 14-36 antennas.
Keep up the good work!!!

And living in an area that gets hit with lots of snow!!!😂😂😂😂😂
Check out the Channel Master Advantage and Masterpiece antennas - all are low VHF capable besides the "Digital Advantage" ones.
I have a degree in broadcasting and I have an excellent understanding of TV signal science and antenna tech. Please pay attention to Tyler The Antenna Man.
For what it's worth, your thumbnail picture is of one of my favorite actors.
The inverse square law. It applies to radio signals also
I have a Clearstream 2MAX antenna on a pole up about 35 feet off the ground. No amplifier. Just good quality coax. I am about 45 to 50 miles from most of my TV station transmitter sites in the Mobile Pensacola market. I get 56 channels very reliably. The only channel I really have difficulty with is Fox 10 because it is the only VHF antenna on channel 9. I still get 2 out of 5 bars on it. I get 4 out of 5 bars on the other channels. If I had to, I would absolutely buy another 2MAX antenna. Definitely my suggestion!
If you have problems picking up Fox in the future, below is an antenna with more VHF gain that should pick it up a lot better the the ClearStream 2Max:
amzn.to/3PY5DvP
In Miami Dade county, two TV stations broadcast using VHF instead of UHF. As result, antennae that work for UHF will not pickup these 2 signals. I have to use an old rabbit ear model cause the fancy, boosted one I got will not pick them up.
One note , the channel ( like 2.1) is not the same as the frequency ( like let's say 33 UHF). 2.1 in NYC is a huge channel, while 33.1 is vhf 3.
You need an antenna that can handle both if you want to be able to watch available ota channels. It is especially hard since they repacked the spectrum ,bc they took away above 36 UHF to use for cell phones.
thanks
COOP
...
Is WaveMax a good antenna ? I currently am using a RCA black square antenna & it works well for OTA.
See video below. Make sure to check out some of my other videos as you likely missed more in addition to this one: ruclips.net/video/b1ItqIX0tZ8/видео.html
I recommend people start with the Phillips rabbit ears. Looks very nice and the VHF elements can serve as reflectors for the UHF. Can be hung in a window. It may be all you need. Even if you only use it as a backup for when your internet goes out. $12.
I have an antenna something like the one at 2:03 that I bought over 20 years ago at Walmart for around $8. I also have a flat, black one like the one at 2:10 that I bought off of amazon for $40 five years ago. They both get 19 channels. (I live on a mountain in eastern Pennsylvania).
When I have more time this summer I'll give you call. Thanks
Suppose you are in a rural location where the towers from which you receive are in entirely different directions, and each is over 40 miles away. Can you realistically use a single antennae for reception? I have been looking at two antennas pointing in different directions and then trying to merge the signal into a single coax cable.
Never done it myself but somewhere else in this thread, another commenter mentoned a Tyler video with a setup having two antennas pointing in different directions, with a switch to toggle between them.
In some cases, one single antenna might get channels from both directions but it depends how strong or weak the signals are along with the gain pattern on the antenna. You don't want an antenna that's too large as it will be highly directional. If you want to give one antenna a try, I suggest the Dinova or Ellipse Mix from the list below: www.amazon.com/shop/antennaman/list/2LH365VAPDKLC?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d
It's also a good idea to use a TV or signal meter as a guide to help you find the precise direction where both sets of channels are picked up. See video below: ruclips.net/video/1_Cy08x5qeY/видео.html
Very good episode! Thank you...🇺🇸 👍☕
How does this fit in with ATSC tuners and antennae?
We are looking to upgrade from no TV (we have no cable and only bad over the air digital) to ATSC.
Should I get a new antenna, or a new ATSC digital box?
As long as the TV was made after 2008, it should have an ATSC tuner built-in. Otherwise, below is a link to an external tuner you can connect to any TV or monitor: amzn.to/3Lngj75
Anyone know how what reception I can expect in the Hilton Head area?
See video below: ruclips.net/video/NLCyuqM0LLc/видео.html
Is a metal roof an indoor antenna killer?
Not entirely. One might still work in a window. See video below to learn if the signals in your area are strong enough to picked up with an indoor antenna: ruclips.net/video/NLCyuqM0LLc/видео.html
I don't want an antenna on my roof. Wife does't either. Is there a benefit to putting an outdoor antenna up high in an open attic space? (didn't see a video on this topic). Thanks.
I put one of the long range ones he offers in our attic on the second floor and we get great reception with it. I think we are getting something like 30 channels (some repeats) and we don't see much drop out from it except when we are having a hurricane. I did add another direction antenna on the other side of our attic and pointed it at some stations down the coast and those come in great too and some are over 50 miles away. I do also recommend a preamp and a powered splitter if you have a long run from the attic. We have a Tablo DVR and I have our antenna connected to it in a closet on the first floor. The Tablo can then be accessed via wifi throughout the house so you don't even need to run cable to your TV sets just set up the Tablo app on each one and you are good to go. We cut cable TV over 8 years ago and we don't miss it at all.
That's where mine is and it works well. Al long as you don't have a metal roof or attic ductwork blocking the signal, or big trees/buildings/hills between you and the broadcast towers it should work. I've heard rain degrades signals but I haven't experienced it (not sure about snow). I'm in a relatively flat area with all the towers 40 miles away and they come in great.
I actually have a video on this topic but the summary of it that an antenna will work in the attic if you're in a fair to strong signal area. If you want me to take a look into your situation and make a recommendation on what to purchase, sign up for my antenna recommendation service below: www.antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
hey the Antenna Man, I'm really new to coxial connections, and here's my situation:
I have a very old monitor that I really like, no smarts! it has what it describes as a 'BNC' connector on it and I have the cable. what I really want to do is connect an HDMI device to it (like my laptop or my DVD player) but of course, its not so easy.
what I think I need to do is get an RF modulator with an HDMI port, like the 'hdm68' or 've coax mini mod 2' and hook that up, but it looks like the coax connector on this is different from my "bnc" cable, is there a BNC to that coax so I can plug my dvd player into the modulator, then put its coax out into my bnc monitor?
I would much rather an RF signal than get a new monitor with hdmi on it!
any tips?
Thanks Dude.
The most desirable antenna type if you have a place to put it is a Yagi. Yagi antenna's are by their nature directional which gives them significant gain. Don't pinch pennies, get a good antenna as per Tyler's advice.
Was that last one a microphone?
It looked exactly like one but technically was an antenna. You can see my video review of it below: ruclips.net/video/4pVMNaG9VeY/видео.html
thanks for doing what you do...
How many tvs can you hook to a antenna.
As many as you want. See video below: ruclips.net/video/blsyk6AG5zY/видео.html
We have followed your recommendations for over 10 years. But we started having an issue. Lose of stations. We have the Channel Master extreme 80, cable and Amp you recommended. All of a sudden some days between 5-8AM and 5-7PM we lose channel. ???
It could be a number of thing including an amplifier failing, interference from LED lights, or just a general weak signal. If you would like me to take a closer look into your situation to see how you can improve things, sign up for my antenna recommendation service below. www.antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
Thanks
Where is this curvature you speak of? Good channel😊
What stores do you think have good antennas?
Usually home improvement stores like Lowes, Home Depot, and Mernard's. Look for antenna made by Channel Master, RCA, Winegard, or Televes.
@@AntennaMan Lowe's and Home Depot will have indoor antennas and a couple small directional outdoor antennas, but that's about it. Anything bigger you'll have to order online. I miss the days of Radio Shack.
I don't get any channels On an indoor antenna where I live In the 62901 Area i can't put out an outdoor antenna Do to rental I lives in So I just usePluto and tubi
I actually made an indoor antenna that works pretty good using a slat of aluminum window blind and a 3D printed bracket.
Do you install antennas in Philadelphia? If not can you recommend a contractor? I live in Texas but have elderly parents in Philadelphia and they just want basic locals via an antenna.
I no longer install antennas but below is a company near Philadelphia that does: maps.app.goo.gl/F7RDPM5T36JybY3S8

You're lucky you got 3 years out of it. Sometimes, they don't even last a year or are bad right out of the box.
Just purchased the channel master from your Amazon Store.
Thanks! I hope it works well for you. If not, try using a signal meter as shown in the video below: ruclips.net/video/1_Cy08x5qeY/видео.html
I believe that if analog NTSC TV was back on the air, even one good channel, TV would come back with a vengeance. People would start buying herringbone antennas. You see a mini explosion of watching when a TV pirate turns on in your neighborhood.
NTSC was actually around until a few years ago. See my video below: ruclips.net/video/mgAxeluxYkY/видео.html
@AntennaMan it's around today. Devices. My 700TVL camera. I watched your low power TV visits. I followed the shutdowns in USA and Canada. Robbie Strike and NorthCoast Hobbies. But we need it back as in public.
The National Association of Broadcasters will never listen to you, but your congressman will.
Tyler I have the AntennaDirect 2 max antenna. I see you tested the 4 Max antennas some time ago. How do they compare? Does having essentially double the antenna with the 4 over the 2 have better reception levels. I get anywhere from 45-62 channels, I’m in the Lehigh Valley area, depending how I position the 2Max which is mounted indoors. But channel 3.1, CBS out of Philadelphia is the hardest to receive and fluctuates the most from day to day. I have gotten it to have a 55-57 signal quality with 80-97 video quality and then next day it’s crap. Would the 4Max work better ? Thanks
While the 4Max has an additional UHF element, at the end of the day it's still a very basic small directional antenna with limited gain. Your better bet is to upgrade to a larger antenna like one of the Televes models on my Amazon store. Keep in mind you need one with low VHF capability to pick up 6ABC reliably. If you can't figure out which antenna to purchase and want me to take a look into things, sign up for my antenna recommendation service below: www.antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
@ Thanks Tyler. Not looking to mount an antenna outside and that Televes model looks to be pretty large. Aesthetically I wouldn’t want to mount that in a room indoors. I may look to move my current antenna to the attic which may help some. I don’t care about ABC as I get that with Sling TV as a local option. CBS is not included on Sling hence my foray into OTA. Yesterday I gave up trying to pull in CBS out of Philadelphia. Did not but pixelate. This morning clear as a bell and didn’t move the antenna at all. ??????? 🤷🤷
@@videobandit The antenna is just barley picking up the channel to the point it goes in and out with very minor changes in atmospheric conditions. My suggestion is to try a signal meter. See video below. ruclips.net/video/1_Cy08x5qeY/видео.htmlsi=mSYPQEEC3WlvSx4z
@ my LG tv in the next room, connected to the same antenna, has a manual channel add option. When in this mode it has both a signal strength meter and video quality meter. The best I was able to achieve was Signal 57 and Video quality bounced from 80 to 97% . Great then, but it doesn’t hold as next day may be 30 strength and 10% quality with no system changes. Must be like you said atmospherics. Thanks
Just a thought for everyone who cannot install an antenna outdoors or in an attic... if you have a room that is your home office, consider mounting an outdoor (flat) antenna on the ceiling of that room. Not the best choice from an aesthetic standpoint, but if you don't look up, you won't see it. 😅
Guess what? I just got a tv antenna in a video you said works like an outdoor antenna in your Clearstream 2max vid except it performed worse than the 40 mile flatenna from the same company as it didn’t get my vhf 10 nbc station about 30 miles away and my Telemundo station KXSH-LD and the flatenna got those stations. I probably shouldn’t have upgraded.
Some antennas will work better than others in a given location for various reasons including the exact width of the elements, gain pattern, and coax position. its quite possible you had the coax cable in a better position connected to the FLATennna that it acted as an antenna element. It does not mean it's hands down better than the 2V. It just happened to work better for your situation.
Yeah. I’ll try a new coaxial and amplifier with the 2max if that dosent get those 2 stations I might go back to that flatenna as it worked good for me.
My neighbor down the road has a 2v and gets great reception so I bought the 4v and it picked up horribly a cheap $40 4 bay antenna from ebay picked up better than the clearstream 4v max, but my homemade antenna picks up the best. (Gray hoverman antenna)
Good man!!!

Hello, Mr. Tyler :-) Glad to see you as a person, which is interested in so simple (as it looks like) but so special thing as antenna :-) All the time I was fighting with bad Tv signal in my grandparents village in the middle of forest... Now I am using an Iskra Triplex 47N type
antenna, it works really great, we
mounted it in 43 feet tall :-) But when a person has something good he want's even better :-) Everything started when I saw your video about Televes DAT
Boss LR... Now I would like to make clear about other beaster-Iskra DTX 92FG :-) If it's possible, could you
compare these two leaders, which one could be stronger for weak signals or Televes DAT Bos or Iskra 92FG, which could be the winner (including
preamps) :-) A simple answer would be
enough for me, no research required,
just parameters and your opinion :-) Thank you for your help to people to find right things :-) Good luck to you :)
I live in tumwater wa next to olympia. why does my $20 Onn get about 20 channels/stations and a $70 clear stream I bought only brings in 5 ? waste of money. why would that be?
I don't know your specific location... but make sure that your antenna is aimed properly, and you might try turning it a bit one way or the other. Chances are, the bigger antenna is more directional than the small one. There's the possibility that you have reflected signal from buildings or hills (the fancy term is multipath interference) and rotating the antenna slightly might be enough to make a difference.
Growing up, we had crappy reception (Portland, Oregon area). There are multiple small, extinct volcanoes in the area, we had two between our house and the transmitters.
This is why we trust Tyler with Antenna Reviews and he gives verified Amazon links to purchase the antennas
I've had tv antennas most all my life. I've built some I've bought some the best for my situation is a gray hoverman with preamp. The lil round antenna Tyler hates so much works great for a few weeks then channels start to disappear. I bought a few of them tried to create a preamplifier out of some they just burn up quickly. Don't buy the ONN preamplifier from Walmart it's completely trash, RCA preamplifier is the best if you're on a very tight budget, but all preamps do have a life cycle.
My towers are like 50 miles away and I can get nbc with a 35 miles antenna but nothing else for the most part.
Buy an antenna? Not me, my friend. I was visiting a friend in Milwaukee, and the reception on her TV was rather poor. When I went to investigate, I saw she had no antenna at all. She was getting reception just from the coax jack on the back of the TV. Her apartment was 10 stories up with clear line of sight from her windows to the transmission towers about 2 miles away. So I looked around, found a twist tie and pulled the plastic off one end to expose the metal wire. I stuck that into the back of the TV and bam, perfect reception on every channel. Kind of makes me wonder why TV makers don't put a simple antenna into the frame of the TV.
Not every one is 2 miles away from the tower
And TV and Stereo manufacturers used to provide a T wire antenna for city dwellers with close transmitters, few want OTA out of the box or buy Stereo Receivers. Costco doesn’t sell receivers due to low demand.
Just purchased your $50.00 package to set up my dad's TV in Illinois
I've started reporting seller with bogus claims about range and other obviously false marketing claims.
The internet told me the world is flat so I had to get one of those thousand mile ones to make sure I could get all the stations.
I actually got one of those Amazon junk antennas and found it didn't get better reception than the cheap flat antenna I got from my local Walgreens. There's a happy ending to this though because my parrents had a tv in their kitchen that couldn't get good reception and since the Amazon antenna had a built in signal booster it got all the channels they were missing. When life gives you lemons...
CBS Mornings was trying to promote/sell a janky antenna today. They even used the same sales-pitch you hear on the infomercials.
Sad!
Amazon is notorious for listing items with no UL rating certification and even actual radio active products (Seriously!). So the site being flooded with crappy antennas with exaggerated claims is just par for the course.
Anyone have any recommendations on how to keep birds from sitting on the antenna? What will shoo them away?
No idea. Try contacting a local wildlife expert.
After fifty years of testing antennas I have found the triple boom design brings in the strongest signal.
Me too
