      It's grammatically correct, but it's an odd sentence. "I don't want us not to eat fruit." Of course, it's possible, but the double negative is a little clunky

      Can i also use negation for all those subjonctif phrases
      Like
      Je ne souhaite pas que
      Je ne veux pas que
      Should i use subjontic for the following sentence
      Because any how we have certaim negative set of phrases like
      Je ne pense pas que
      Je ne croire pas que

    • @ParapluieFrench

      Yes, that's less clunky 😊

    • @ParapluieFrench
      @ParapluieFrench  3 года назад

      Yes, of course you can. There are some expressions which only take the subjunctive in the negative, but most you can use with the affirmative and negative

    Great video. You have saved me doing my own! I particularly like how you make no concession explaining what the subjunctive mood actually is (v. indicative) but also how you then go on to being very pragmatic. Your NEED is a great "trick".

    As a French student you cannot overuse the subjunctive. A French teacher and other French coworkers told me I was "showing off" using the tense. I could not understand this. Its not a simple tense to learn. Il faut que je practique beaucoup de subjonctif afin que je puisse améliorer le francais. It may seem to French people that I am "showing off" and maybe it loses its impact but its not a concern to me at this stage. There is little time before the tests I use it as much as possible. One day when I am bilingual I will stop overusing it until then the tense is a focus for the student all the time. Not trying to impress anyone or show off. Otherwise excellent video.

    Why would someone use the subjunctive? And what does it tell you differently than the imperfect for example?

    Hi. There is one thing that bumfuzzles me. In English with the phrase 'it is important' we can either use the subjunctive or not. Of course, the context changes accordingly. For example, in the phrase 'it is important that he loves her' there is just a statement of the fact. In the phrase 'it is important that he love her' without the final s letter for the verb, there is an indication of the wish. But in French this construction with the word 'important' should include only the subjunctive mood. At least this is what I have been told. Is it true? If it is, then why? Why can I not just use the indicative mood to state a fact?

    • @Faineant
      @Faineant 7 лет назад +1

      By the way, in spoken British English the subjunctive is rarely used even if we want to express our wish. The listener should discern our meaning from the context.
