Man I really like that Carb. You mentioned, back in the day. When I was a weekend warrior I was lucky enough to have my carb worked over by a old team mechanic from the Motown Missile Pro Stock car.
That new carb is light years ahead of what we ran in the late 70s early 80s.

I've noticed that holley's QC has really been lacking in the last few years. I have found major quality issues on 3/3 new holley carbs so far. I am now trying to stay away from the holley brand. It's really a shame, buying a holley product used to mean something but now it comes with a warning.

I've been preaching transfer port sync for years. With the blades closed the transfer port should look as wide as it is long...it should look like a square rather than a rectangle...maybe a bit rectangular. I think the last one I set up ended up at .040 long. The front too far past square and you will be into the transfer slot emulsion jets in the metering block. I've got several carbs here with holes drilled in the plates sitting on the shelf, the idle air adjustment now offered is excellent.

Just started watching your video's. Love the car! If I was you I would run a transbrake or drop the launch RPM. I have a '69 Camaro that I foot brake and it has always run faster by staging at a low RPM and letting the converter flash on the launch. Looks at your own video's you will see that the suspension on your car is done when you footbrake it at 4,500. The suspension has already reacted to the launch and it has nowhere to go. So far my car has run 9.50's at 143 with a smallblock. It has the power to run in the 8's but It didn't have enough gear until now. Best short times have been 1.38-1.36 off the footbrake.

The people who do the wet-testing, do some weird crap. Like, dropping wrenches, resulting in a marred spot where ever the wrench landed. Mine was right where the fuel line attached to the bowl. It leaked. Upon further inspection, found the mar, massaged it until smooth, and reattached it...no leak. It just seems that products cannot get through QC without an issue. It's nice too see that Holley has been paying attention to what was/is occuring in modern motorsports. Back in the day, you had to invest in pin drills to modify the idle and secondary circuits. What wasn't nice was the obvious lack of quality control by Holley. Definitely fire off an email to express your concern of the lack of QC, especially since your paying that kind of cash for a "competition only" carb.
