  • Gravity Powered Kinetic Sculpture Plans is a 22 page digital download of instructions, sketches of parts, and pictures to follow to help you build this unique wooden kinetic sculpture. No batteries or plug ins needed. Sculpture uses a hanging weight to power the escapement wheel that pushes a pendulum that turns the flywheel. Art piece is made of plywood parts that you will make. Some 1/4'' bolts and a 1 small bearing are needed but the rest is wood. Material list of parts needed will help you along. The Gravity Motor is approx. 12'' wide x 20'' tall x 4'' deep after you build it, and the hanging weight measures approx. 8'' wide x 15'' tall x 2-1/4'' deep after you build it. This is a faster moving kinetic sculpture that will run approx. 4-5 minutes after you crank up the weight. Definitely a challenging unique wood project, sure to be a conversation starter. Would look good in your home or office after you make this project. I left mine plain, but you could stain or paint parts of the Gravity Motor to give it a different look. ( Plans are a digital file that you can download immediately after your purchase and print out from your computers printer. It is the same idea as someone emailing you pages to read and you print it out on your printer.)

    HI its amazing, how would you slow it down if you wanted to?

    • @rj40m
      @rj40m  4 года назад +3

      Andrew Hodgson, normally, the longer the pendulum the slower the swing, but because I placed a link arm from the pendulum to the wheel, it kind of locked in the speed. If you made a longer pendulum to slow the swing, then it would also affect the swing above the pivot point. To achieve the same stroke distance needed to turn the wheel, the pendulum length above the pivot point would also need to be lengthened, the wheel placed higher up, to have the same stroke distance for the link arm to turn the wheel a rotation. When I made this, it was trial and error, and to compensate for errors, I made the link arm holes larger for more slop on the pins that are on the wheel and pendulum. It’s all the little things that make the difference when it comes to how these things work out. Too much friction between moving parts, is the biggest problem. Use bearings if feasible in your design for moving parts, and fender washers in between moving parts provide less friction than wood on wood. If you’re going to make the pendulum longer, then you may need to have a heavier hanging weight so the force applied to turn the escapement wheel to push the pendulum is greater.

    • @raymondo162
      @raymondo162 3 года назад +1

      just increase the length of the pendulum below the pivot - below that hammer-head shape. or just cut off the hammer head and lower it downwards using a stick. kis

      @rj40m  3 года назад +2

      Gus96 the whole device is pretty gutless. Too much friction anywhere will cause it to slow down or stop. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but the hanging weight would probably have to be heavier to compensate for the extra friction of a tiny dc generator running a small led bulb.

    • @dave4lexking
      @dave4lexking 3 года назад +9

      It's not a perpetual motion machine, nor is it claiming to be one. There's a weight in the system. You can see it at 0:31. It's a pendulum bob clock mechanism; The weight slowly falls, converting its potential energy into kinetic energy. That's why the weight is so massive, since potential energy P = mass x 9.81 x height, so the larger the mass, the more potential energy available to the system. At some point, the weight will need to be lifted back up, which is exactly what happens when you wind up a pendulum bob clock.
