  • Before assembling the gear box I just want to check the crankshaft end float and correct it if necessary

Thank you for this. The tip about the rivets I didn't know so I'll be checking closely at the next strip down.

Not surprised to see parts swapped out from different bikes. My D1 plunger has a D3 engine with a D1 barrel & piston (should be correcting this soon!). Also when I got my Suzuki GT380 it had a GT185 front end & early RD250 rear wheel.

Hello very nice video. I did mine with a dial gauge but I used a method to positively move the crank and prevent it from springing back. There is a video on my channel to explain it if you are interested.
Good to see another Bantam being built.
    Best wishes, Dean.

Hello just watched your video. I liked how you mounted the dial gauge I will try that next time.. If you look at the end of my part 3 gearbox video I am currently stuck. The blind layshaft bush I need to ream if you have any ideas on what sort of adjustable reamer would work with a blind bush please let me know.
      Thanks.

Thanks heaps for posting this! Question: you mentioned a 10thou on the drive side and a 10+4 thou on the other side, wouldn’t that have taken up nearly the whole 25 thou float? Obviously not but it shows I don’t understand fully 🤔

Or is that to get the gap right on the other side as well? I think I get it now

With this procedure I prose to mage two dummy blank bearings from aluminium so that the crank is able to move freely , once the end float is set replace the alum blanks with bearings

If I had the skills and a lathe I would do that but I wouldn't even know how to turn a lathe on.

That's not required. Feeler gauges do the job.
