Brendan!! The "Tracking hours" tip has helped me sooo much. I specifically found turning on a timer for about 30/40 minutes and preventing myself from looking up from my books was rewarding. Thanks for posting!

My setup is: two monitors (monitor and laptop). On laptop (on right side) i put first google calendar with 3 days optin to show, and Pomofocus half screen, and second halft notepad with big font to write something if needed.
On calendar you can mark some basic things every day that you do, like wake up, go to bed, and then when to eat, so you know in any moment what to do and what you didn't done, and in the end when you need to go somewhere and similar. It is also good feature to enable showing lighter color on events that is passed (in settigns you can select that). When it's time for dinner let's say, you click on dinner event in calendar and it popups, and there you can wrote something like "do some exercises, then eat" and every day when you click on it you will know what to do.
So for me google calendar is first thing to check, and when I click on event it will popup and say something like "turn on Pomofocus, drink wather, study". That really helps a lot.
On main monitor I can work, but on right side laptop's screen is where I see what to do and only thing that I need to focus every day is to check google calendar and be sure I put pomofocus and notepad, and everything that is in my events that is written what to do when you popu the event.
In Pomofocus I put about 8 block /task with / 1h per block (2x30 mintues) and tryting to work at last 1 hour before break. I don't write what to do in pomo because everything is in calendar, I just count how many hours I spend focused (that includes following google calendar, not just learning but also habits like if you click on event and it's said "exercises then learn", so it's not 100% learning), tasks are named like "Block 1 (first hour active), Block 2 (second hour active).. ). Without pomo if you see it's 2PM and you didn't done anything you think it's too late to do now anything and skip all day, but with pomo you focus on how many hours did you cont in pomo app, not what time is it. Last thing, most of the times I can't work If I hear people walking or talking, so I put my headphons and play some focus music with very low volum, I put it in my google calendar to remind me. Notifications and alarms to do something didn't work for me.
Also I don't use any medication. If you are interested to test this method too, let me know, I could provide you more details. But for me this is the only option to focus and get thigns done, and I did tried many things.

Hey Brendan, can you PLEASEEE create a video explaining the excel sheet in depth? I have been struggling with the MCAT for 3 years now, and will be retaking it again in the next few months. I have been recently diagnosed with ADHD not over two months ago, even though I knew I always had it. You are literally the first person to give me hope and insight on how I can improve on myself. I really felt alone in this whole process without anyone ever understanding me, so really thank you for doing all of this!

Hi sorry for the late reply! So for the excel spreadsheet I believe it can be a big distraction too. Excel has too many functions that aren’t super worth knowing but as long as you are using it to write down your weekly/daily hours it will help. You can probably also use a journal or something else that works, if it works better for you. I used excel because I have a lot of experience with it due to my research project but again I don’t think it’s super necessary if you can find something that works. Excel is unfortunately not super accessible

Hey! Don't feel alone in this journey. I am a medical aspirant too and I was diagnosed with ADHD this August and I'll be attempting my medical entrance exam for the third time. Its okay. You're not running out of time. All the very best for your next attempt. I pray you rock it 💛
