Puerto Rico is US Colony since 1898 when the USA invaded Puerto Rico during the Spanish American War. At that time Puerto Ricans were Spanish citizens with full representation in the Spanish government. English language was imposed in all schools until the nineteen thirties however resistance was strong and Spanish was reinstated. The Puerto 🇵🇷 Rican flag was prohibited but again resistance won after many years. The history taught in schools is not exact which justifies the confusion among many Puerto Ricans.
