All these cash-in coasters really highlight just what a good version the Disney one is. Beast doesn't harass Belle by constantly proposing and guilt tripping her (I think nobody even tells her what the deal is beyond that the castle is enchanted?), Belle only starts warming up to Beast when he's genuinely nice to her and tries to get over his cranky ways, he lets her go without any expectation that she'll come back and again without any guilt trip later on (fully expecting and *willing* to die by Gaston's hand before he realizes Belle came back). Belle also isn't a passive dumbass like the Beauties in these other "movies". There's not a lot she CAN do because of the setting but she isn't just sort of... THERE until the end of the story.
Linda Wolverton did a great job in giving her characters a personality and development. She was very smart by changing the rose role in her version and , instead of Maurice exchanging Belle , is Belle herself who exchange her freedom for her father , making her more active and brave at the same time
The beast throwing a 'NO' tantrum is still one of the funniest scenes among all of these adaptations

I've actually gotten an idea recently on how to make this story less problematic:
Since at beginning of the story Beauty's father falls into financial ruin, Beauty could try to help him by looking for employment as a maid. But nobody wants to employ her for some reason, except for a guy whose servants are rumored to disappear. Kinda having not much choice, and kinda curious, Beauty decides to work for him and realize that he might be a physically a monster, but he's not nearly as bad as people say.

I don't know... it sounds just as crazy that she would want to work for some weirdo suspected serial killer just because she's "kinda curious" and needs the money. And then there's the "some reason" that nobody else wants to hire a beautiful young maid. Maybe if everyone was scared of getting MeToo'd or something...
the brother and fiancé looked so similar that it took me a couple of watches to even realize they were different characters

Don't know why this review needed to be re-edited, but it is still one of my favorite videos from Phelous. He was in top form, starting with the Resident Evil bit in the opening and going on a roll from there.
Too bad he didn't mention Rowaner's lazy eye, or her suitor's matching lazy eye, or her brother's lazy... Does everybody but Beauty have lazy eyes in this family? Her mother must be a chameleon.
So far the only changes I've noticed are subtle: 1. the background music during the faux dubs is louder or different, 2. the timing between cuts is shorter/snappier, and 3. there's a background (instead of black bars) to adjust the aspect ratio when he uses clips from the movie.
I've watched this review too many times if I noticed tiny things like that lol 😂
Edit: he added a gag at 11:57, some close-ups, redubbed some jokes, trimmed some lines, and mutilated the Halloween theme music at 21:52

"Belle" is French for "Beauty" in the first place, which is why the Disney movie's character had that name. It's redundant for Burbank to say "Belle the beauty."

I think this is the only version of Beauty and the Beast where any of the brothers are as jealous of Beauty as the sister and is in on the plot to get Beauty killed by the beast
I do recall seeing one live action production where she had brothers. One was a fop who only cared about his clothes. The other had a gambling problem.

@@LadyEvilest I know which version you mean! The 1987 Cannon Movie Tales adaptation, the live-action BATB of *my* childhood. It's one of the few versions of the story where we actually get to know Beauty's family more in-depth and where each sibling has at least one distinct character trait that separates them from each other. It's also one of few versions where Beauty is actually beloved by her brothers *and* sisters, the only issue is that following her becoming the family's new mother figure after the death of their *actual* mother, they'd all become *super* dependent on her, and to an almost unhealthy degree by that point. So much so that she has a whole song about wanting time for herself, only for her siblings to join in by countering her inability to enjoy it, which the story takes to time to explore once Beauty arrives at the castle. Plus, the sisters are given a more legitimate reason to hold Beauty back from returning on time; it was less about killing the Beast and more so ensuring that Beauty hadn't lost her mind, due to her accidentally revealing to them the dreams she'd had about the Prince. And heck, they're not even the reason she forgets to return: poor girl catches a cold at the month's end, and (I'm assuming) this story takes place in the 18th century! (Even though a lot of the costuming in this movie is more so modelled after the Renaissance).
I don't know if this says more about the quality of the movie's voice acting or Phelans but I had trouble telling the them apart sometimes :)

Yep. It’s mostly Phelan’s voice acting of the characters in the movies that is on point. If it’s something that makes you say “Golly gosh, my word.”
19:42 I know this is just a minor thing but I find it kind of funny that the beast signs his letter with "Beast". It's so odd when you think about it. I mean, he should be having a name and all. It would be the equivalent of us signing a letter with "Human"
Well, if there's something good about these re-edits, it's that I can pretend they're all brand new videos and rewatch them all over again!

Honestly, the Beast being nonlinear and living in a wormhole would be an interesting twist to the story.
Ooh, that is a fun thought! If the wormhole had him perpetually confused about whether he was seeing her for the first time or the hundredth, his proposing right off the bat doesn't look quite as desperate. I mean, even your idea can't salvage a Burbank film, but as a unique story it could be a good read. If you don't write it, somebody should.

Your edits in this one are top-notch. The "For this, you will die" and "Are you prepared to do dishes?" actually fooled me for a second into thinking they were a part of the movie.

I know the tier list fad kind of petered off, but I still think it would be pretty entertaining.
I've thought about asking for a tier list as well though more for characters referred to as 'Beautiful' and the amount of effort they put into making the character beautiful.

Well, that was certainly a Beauty and the Beast film. The reason to introduce Golly Gosh-Father made no sense since he clearly wasn’t the POV character of the story. Though maybe the film creators were just so pleased with how he turned that they wanted the audience to be introduced to hi right away. XD

that way the beast picks the girl at random or tries making par-ells between inner or outer beauty. (I would love to see an average or even ugly of beauty version of this story)
Also in defense of some of these beast (and I’m being very lose here) if you find a rose in winter (something you’ve mentioned a few times being expensive) this would be like being the guest of a rich guy who offered you shelter and food and then trying to steal his chandelier.
I would love to see a version that because of the beast “ugliness” he has to sell roses in winter or something along those lines so it would make sense of him getting mad.
But at the same time he should put up a fence or a sign or something. And maybe not in front of the house where everyone can see.
