Great video Juan, as always having interesting conversations. Let me add to it: we Latinos are very fortunate with the entire data roaming conversation, to the point where we can find out curious why you guys even worry about roaming fees. Most carriers offer free roaming that simply consumes data from your monthly plan, while connected in other countries. My personal example: I travel through Latin and North America monthly for work,, and have really free roaming on my $19/mo plan with Movistar from Costa Rica. This lets me use my single SIM (or eSIM) in all the countries I go to. The only caveat is that it consumes my 18Gb of available data, but even after it runs out it's still unlimited at 256kbps (enough for text messaging anyway). Really makes you think that services like Airalo will only get cheaper in the future

Are there any services out there that offer eSims that give you an actual local phone number for the country you are visiting, so people in that country can give you a call without using a social media app? For example, in Korea, you have to have a local Korean phone number to make reservations at a restaurant, or to use apps to order take-out. Some eSims give you a local number, but they are registered as a data number only in the country, not text and talk. It can not be used for such things as I mentioned.

Using iphone 14 max pro. Any info on if I can use an e-sim, switch to another e-sim for a few days, then go back to the original one? I am going to be traveling to the UK for 5 weeks. I'll get a 30day esim. About 2 weeks into using my UK esim, I'll be going to Scotland for a week. So i'll need to get the esim for Scotland for those 5 days. Then when I am back in the UK for the remainder of my trip, I'll go back to the esim for the UK. So my question is, will that UK esim still be valid and usable even though I stopped using it for a week? Hope that makes sense. Thanks !

As can be seen by you having to enable data roaming on the "local" SIM and that speedtest with a ping of 160ms!! They just buy whatever the cheapest sim is, like from Malaysia for example that lets you connect in the country you want to resulting in horrible pings and wrong geolocation because all traffic gets routed through the native SIM country.

I don't like esim it is my business if I have 3 phones I should be able to swap Sims without calling in or paying a fee to do so.

I agree. I think this is just going to be used as a way to make switching phones and changing carriers more difficult. It's an anti-consumer move for our home region phones.

@SomeGadgetGuy yeah which is a horrible move. Pretty soon buy a $1000 phone wait 3 months later for it to arrive in the mail way things are going.

@SomeGadgetGuy, I used to have metro pcs and the customer service on the phone told me that they lock the sim card to the device that is being on the network , they told me that everytime you wanna take the sim card out and put it in another phone you have to call customer service even with the physical sim card, basically this is what the e-sims are already doing it. By putting the metro pcs sim card in another device, the phone calls and mobile data don't work, you are required to call the customer service with metro pcs to swap between phones with there physical sim cards even when use your own unlock phone with metro pcs. I hope it does not come to the point that the carriers lock the e-sim to the carrier, for example if someone was using Verizon and Verizon decided that they want to lock the e-sim because they signed up for service and to unlock there phone, they would need to be locked into the account for 3 years now instead of 2 like it used to be or the other alternative would to be buying the phone outright even if the phone cost $1,000 plus tax and fees than charge a fee to unlock the e-sim. It's why I don't sign up for post paid service anymore because the post paid service changed from 2 years to 3 years and there are a bunch of fees that and taxes that the carrier puts on there customers.

I'm gonna go ahead and mute you now, I just need you to know that accusing me of being an Apple shill, when the mention of this move was a joke against Apple, means you're really bad at understanding. And I'm gonna have a fun chuckle about this on my discord. 👍
